There’s no shame in getting your word out!

Almost a decade after the terrorattacks of 9/11, as the wake ofHurricane Irene skirted up our Eastcoast, Americans followed its news withanticipation over the trillions of dollarsexpected in damages to NYC alone, and

the additional devastation that would weigh upon oureconomy as a result. On Facebook, myriad friends postedstatus updates of their safety and their prayers for otherswaiting in the hurricane’s relentless path. I too, a Godfearing man, continually prayed for our nation, even asI’ve heard rumor as to why America has been sufferingthrough devastation: that God has turned His back onour nation….blah blah blah—in one ear and out theother. There was no comfort in listening to Republicanpresidential candidate Michele Bachmann saying thathurricane Irene was a sign from God that federalspending was out of control. She later said she was justjoking. Was that funny? No. Reckless rhetoric like thatinsults the deceased, the intelligence of their survivingfamilies, and the injured victims. Not funny at all.

There are far too many self-righteous individualspurporting to be a mouthpiece of God; it can be a verydisturbing world to live in, at times. There’s nothingfunny about anyone using God to frighten others fortheir own political gain. It’s not right—especially now aswe approach the memory of 9/11. The terrorists of thatday were the epitome of self-righteousness. The lastthing we as a people need to be is self-righteous, and/orto be led by self-righteousness. Instead, let us live andlet live. You answer to your God for your sins, and otherswill answer to their God for their sins. Let’s not try to scareor pressure one another into believing in one another’sdenomination, religion or lack thereof. It’s never workedin the past, and it never will in the present or future.Throughout the history of humankind, far too many liveshave been laid to waste solely because they believeddifferently. Part of what makes you unique is how andwhat you believe; not that you believe in what peoplewant you to believe. Napoleon Hill, who is consideredthe father of the Law of Attraction, said that "What themind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve."From conception to completion, hmmmnnn…I get that.Long before Hill, Jesus said that, if one had faith the sizeof a mustard seed, one could move mountains!Matthew 17:20. I get it…and I may have figured it out—finally! Let’s see if I can make sense….

When people believe in what they think they’resupposed to believe in (because that’s what their socialcircle and/or party lines believe in), it has no substance, since it’s not their own belief. Thus, can belief withoutsubstance shape reality? Well, any belief withoutsubstance is a delusion, and the only thing that can bemanifested into reality from a delusion is misconception. For anything to turn into something, there needs to besubstance at conception. Even “Faith is the substance ofthings hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”Hebrews 11:1. Moreover, anything of substance is oftruth. There must be truth for anything to turn intoreality. Otherwise it’s just a bubble. Those who live a lieor choose to believe in lies, establish delusion in theirlives; while those who’s beliefs contain substance(predicated from truth; otherwise it wouldn’t besubstance), see their beliefs turn into reality. Don’tbelieve in lies, people. Be responsible with your beliefs.Choose to believe in truth, not lies. That is today’s news!God is not to blame for anything, but all those who havechosen to partake in and believe in lies rather than in thetruth, are. Establish truth as the foundation of your beliefs.

Mr. Michaud is a collector of Massena historicalitems. “I’ve been collecting items since I wasabout 12 years old. I have over 10,000 items, that includes photographs from Massenadating back to the 1860s. It’s a hobby I lovedoing in preserving history. And it comes inhandy too when doing my research. Ifsomeone is looking for something, I may have itin my archives” he informed me.

Mr. Michaud said that he will be submitting anarticle about the history of the First BaptistChurch, which is getting demolished, to bepublished in the next issue of the MassenaNews. This is going to be a very interesting read!

“The church was constructed in 1859,” he said,as the Cornerstone. “The first mass was in 1860,”

he added. “The pipe organ, when they originally put that in, it wasrun by water” he said. “Water would come in from the well in theback, and that’s what made the organ work--before electricity.” Mr. Michaud has a wealth of information about the church.

“YouTube's a hobby of mine. I dowhat I can whenever I can," Mr.Michaud said. A recent YouTubevideo he’d created was “MassenaInstitution CB's Subs & PizzasClosed”—a tribute to ownerClarence Baker who’d passed away.

A local YouTube Sensation, John'sWacky World has received over742,634 views of its 367 videosavailable on YouTube.

Mr. Michaud was born in Massena, and has been here ever since. There’sbeen a few times in the past that hehad planned on leaving, butsomething prevented that fromhappening each time. He believes it’s a sign that fate has kept him herewhere his heart is. Massena is his home. This is where he loves to be. Hehas no intentions on ever leaving, though most of his childhood friendshave all moved away. He’s seen a lot of changes in this town. He lovesMassena’s history and loves documenting it. Mr. Michaud is like awalking archive of Massena history. He’s an amazing man to listen to—articulate, intriguing, very interesting! Very positive. He’s a very upliftingspirit. He says he’s always busy. There’s always something to do, he says.He comes across as one who’s very focused, driven, ambitious, andthriving on intellectual conversation.

There’s much more to Mr. Michaud than comedy. He’s an author of 3books, with a 4th one on it’s way—with a release datetentative of this December, titled “Haunted Massena”.

When I first established residence here in Aug. of 2008, I thought Massena was like a ghost town. I didn’t see anytumbleweeds rolling around, but, still, I wondered if people were lurking in the shadows. I scoured the internetlooking for info; however, even on Facebook, Massena wasn’t on the map (and that was not very reassuring). But John’s Wacky World was there on YouTube—showing signs of life that couldn’t be perceived through thetown’s surface. Well, this is nice, I mused, going through many of his videos. I met John, personally, as I raninto him on many occasions in town—as he seemed to be everywhere. Wow, what an interesting guy, Ithought. An eccentric guy like this who’s also a real go-getter would be a huge success in just about anycity or town in America. He pursues his dreams! Dedicated & determined, proud & patriotic, creative & productive—this is whatAmerica’s all about: stepping up to the plate and seizing the moment. It is with great honor that I get to feature John D. Michaud III.

“There's a lot of ghost stories in Massena, but people don'tlike talking about it. They keep it quiet,” Mr. Michaudinformed me, and informed me some reasons why. Hisbook is going to document all this and correct the stories. He discussed some of this phenomenon with me, but youcan read all about it when his book comes out! I’mconvinced there are going to be some amazing revelations!

Canadians Inquire About a Possible Shared Port-Of-EntryThe Canadia Government put in a formal inquiry to the State Department four tosix week ago to initiate the process of having a shared port-of-entry.

As a result of the 2009 border crisis, Canadians had to move their Cornwall Islandport-of-entry to a temporary location in order to accomodate the thousands ofpeople crossing the border daily. One of the options available to them as a morepermanent solution was to request sharing the brand new facilities at Roseveltown. An inquiry is only the Trst step in a long process.

Rumours of a move could not be veriTed before going to print.

Ihave been looking for a few basic recipes for college kids to take along with them when they leave in just a few days. Ourgrandson Jory, who is a good cook when he #nds the time, will be in his #rst year at Ottawa U. His Mom, Karen, says he willhave a microwave and crockpot to use while there. I think, possibly an electric fry pan is allowed as well. I know that thesestudents will not have tons of time to take to prepare a meal, so hopefully, these recipes will be of some help. There will belots of "care packages" making their way to school too.
