This is the time that brings summer to a close. It is also the month for beginnings. Children begin a new school year. Squirrels begin to pack food away for the winter. And time for you, my brother knights, to begin to recruit new members. As I have said in the past, this is the time of the year when we are looking at our members. Trying to get everyone involved in our activities and grow our membership. I still expect everyone to pursue members and I know that we are working hard to keep our membership. Our membership Chairman cannot do all the recruitment by himself. The gift of membership in the Knights of Columbus can be a rewarding gift of a lifetime. My Brother Knight’s and Ladies,

Pope Francis’s prayer intentions for September are:

September

Mentally disabled. That the mentally disabled may receive the love and help they need for a dignified life.

Service to the poor. That Christians, inspired by the Word of God, may serve the poor and suffering.

We have a Catholic Men’s

Fellowship Prayer Group that meets on the first Saturday morning of every month at St. Ursula in the Spiritual Center. We begin at 7:15 am and then attend 8:30 Mass.

The Church is the central focus of our Faith. It is where we celebrate the Mass and receive the Eucharist. Every 1st Sunday at St. Ursula Parish there is a Holy Hour with Eucharistic Ado-ration. It is held at 7:00 pm. We pray for vocations in the Archdiocese and confession is

available. See the dates below.

Please continue to pray for our Priests, Deacons and those in Religious Life. We need to pray for all of our Priests because without them there is no Eucha-rist. Please let me know of any special needs your parish has.

Peace be with you.

CULTURE OF LIFE REPORT

In his 1995 Encyclical, Evangelium Vitae, St. John Paul II called on all Catholic faithful to bear witness to the Gospel of Life and to build the “civilization of life and love” (100). In keeping with this mission and our Order’s Catholic principles of charity, unity, and fraternity, the Knights of Columbus stands strong in its conviction that every human life is a gift of God, endowed with certain inalienable rights—the first among these being the right to life. Even in the midst of difficulties and uncertainties, we believe that human life is sacred and inviolable, and ought to be defended with maximum determination. To this end, the Knights of Columbus supports policies that promote a Culture

of Life and opposes legislative efforts that promote abortion, contraception, sterilization, cloning, destruction of embryos, assisted suicide, euthanasia, unjust war, and the death penalty when there is an acceptable alternative.

Human rights of every kind are “incomprehensible” without the right to life. Our Order, therefore, joins the universal Church in acknowledging the dignity of human life and in its efforts to achieve legal and constitutional protection for every human person at the international, national, state, and local levels.

Soccer shoot-out

We are working diligently to host our first Council Soccer shoot-out in over 10 years. Our goal is to host this event on Saturday, October 4, 2014. The major challenge is getting an available in the Parkville area. We’re working on a proposal for the Baltimore County Executive, plus received assistance from Cardinal Sheehan Council # 205 along with the soccer or-ganizations from St. Ursula and Immaculate Heart of Mary parishes. This is a great event to bring our youth, along with their

families, to show off their soccer know-how and to have a great time. Upcoming events Children’s Halloween/All

Saints party – October 2014

Children’s Christmas party – December 2014

Free throw basketball contest – January 2015

Contacting the Youth Activities Director If you have any new Youth activities that you like our Council to take on and/or you’re

Hi Ladies,

What a wonderful summer! It was great to enjoy the July cookout at my place as

well as the annual Council Picnic at the Stevenson's shore home.

We are hoping to have more regular social get-togethers throughout the

year. We will be starting with a night out at Pizza John's in Essex on Thursday

September 4th at 5:30pm. This would be a great opportunity to welcome po-

tential new members.

Parkville Fair is Saturday September 6th. I look forward to seeing many of

you there. If you have anything you think we could sell, please bring it. It will

still prove a nice time together outdoors.

Come out and join us for the Nun Fun Run, in support of the Little Sisters

of the Poor, on Saturday September 13th, starting at the Cathedral at

8:30am.

We have been invited to come witness the Marriage of Jennifer and Mi-

chael at St. Ursula on Saturday September 20th. May God bless this won-

derful couple with many happy and healthy years together.

God bless,

Jeanine Council Picnic
