To know for beginning your workshop journey...

All workshops are offered for graduate-level credit and available to educators seeking re-licensure, salary advancement, or professional development opportunities. Graduate students may also select workshops, with advisor consent, for elective options as part of the Master of Education program in two degree tracks: Teaching and Learning or Special Education High Incidence (P-12).

On-Ground Workshops meet entirely on-ground at the location provided. Each meeting date is listed, along with the times for each day. You must be present in the class all days for the entire meeting time to receive credit.

Blended Workshops are a combination of meeting in person and then completing the class online. You must be present during the times for face-to-face meetings, and complete your assignments through your Moodle account for the remaining online portion, by the ending date listed. You must enroll by the “Enrollment Ends” date to allow time to establish Moodle accounts.

Online Workshops meet fully online through the use of Moodle. You will be able to interact with the instructor and other students in the workshop. You are required to log in to your workshop on the first day or you will be considered a “no show” and will be dropped from the course following contact from the Graduate Workshops office. Depending on your instructor, you must check in once a day to be considered active in your course. You must enroll by the “Enrollment Ends” date to allow time to establish Moodle accounts.

Payment of tuition must be received in correlation with enrollment through Self-Service Banner (SSB) in order to hold a workshop seat! Complete workshop payments must be made two weeks in advance of a start date to avoid a HOLD on your account.

Copies of your workshop history, unofficial transcripts, and receipts may be located in your personal Self-Service Banner account and may be accessed 24/7 with your log-in credentials. For assistance, contact Help Desk at 316-295-5767.

Parking is free in all parking lots on the Friends University Wichita campus.

No refunds will be issued after the first day of the workshop. If you have enrolled, you will need to drop the course before midnight of the first day of the workshop. If you do not drop the workshop, it will remain on your official Friends University transcript and may result in a failing grade. Please go to the add/drop section to view instructions on how to drop a workshop, located in the back of this brochure.

If you have any questions, please give our office a call at 316-295-5516 or email us at [email protected]. We love serving our area teachers!

Because the present system of education doesn’tworkformanystudentsandteachers, wewillexploreanalternateapproachcalledtheTotallyPositive Approach. Educators who follow the Totally Positive Approach highlight the positives of teaching. They avoid or eliminate the negatives, or convert the negatives into positives. These lofty goals can be attained by using five techniques, which we will explore: meeting mutual needs, changing counterproductive feelings, ending behavior problems, helping underachievers, using active-learning strategies. Using these techniques, teachers will connect with their students and help them achieve. Out-of-control students will become self-disciplined, and underachievers will become self-motivated. As a natural outgrowth of their achievement, students will gain numerous benefits - they will develop a better attitude toward school, become more motivated, feel more competent, and feel better about themselves.Teacherswillbenefittoanevengreaterdegree.Asaresultoftheirstudents’achievements,teachers will grow professionally, and as a byproduct of helping students, teachers will experience personal growth. Graduate Workshops Registration Information and Policies

All workshops are offered for graduate-level credit and available to educators seeking re-licensure, salary advancement, or professional development opportunities. Graduate students may also select workshops, with advisor consent, for elective options as part of the Master of Education in Teaching and Learning (M.Ed) program.

Payment must be received in correlation with enrollment through Self-Service Banner (SSB) in order to hold a workshop seat! Complete workshop payments must be made two weeks in advance of a start date to avoid a HOLD on an account.

Tuition for workshops is listed individually with the description. Additional fees and/or reading material may be required. There are no application fees required to receive graduate credit. Please see the current workshops brochure for details located at www.friends.edu/edworkshops.

Online classes include an additional $30 per credit hour technology fee which is included in the tuition cost listed within the Graduate Workshops brochure. For a description of the minimum system computer requirements needed to take a blended or online workshop, please go to www.friends.edu/technology/.

No Refunds will be issued after the first day of the workshop. If you have enrolled, you will need to drop the course before midnight of the first day of the workshop. Please go to the add/drop section to view instructions on how to drop a workshop. If you do not drop the workshop, it will remain on your official Friends University transcript.

As a courtesy, Graduate Workshops provides a reminder email to enrollees one week prior to a workshop opening. Variations: Whenever possible, the theme should be used in its horizontal format. But, space limitations and certain formats will require alternative applications.

• Stacked versions should be used only when space doesn’t allow for the horizontal format, or when the graphic is used over a photograph.

• The word “Friends” should be emphasized more strongly than the other two, through color and a bolder font.

• A black and white version should be used only when additional colors are not possible within the execution.

Colors – Greater use of color is encouraged, as we work to give energy and life to the Friends University story. The primary and secondary colors in the palette should be used to add variety and call attention to the message.

Photos – Three styles of photography are defined in this section. All should use real students, and more candid shots, to enhance believability.

Diversity – All marketing materials should reflect the diversity of the university, beyond the traditional race and age parameters. We have excellent programs in fine arts, science and business; extracurricular opportunities in athletics and leadership; community service projects and international learning experiences. Together these things represent diversity. We should find ways to incorporate them into our ads, videos and website.

Textures – Use of the white-dot texture and divider texture can provide depth to printed and web materials and can be used behind text to set it apart from images and other body copy. Textures should not be used in newspaper advertising, as it may not reproduce well.

Goal: The visual elements should reflect the vibrant personal growth a student will experience at Friends University. The words “Faith. Friends. Future.” need to become an integral part of each message.

graphiC eleMenTs

The campaign graphic should ideally be used in a horizontal layout with all four colors represented.

When space or layout does not allow for the horizontal treatment, the stacked version can be used instead. (Either right or left aligned)

When using the campaign graphic over a photo or other design element, use a block of color with a drop shadow behind the campaign graphic with “Faith” and “Future” in white, “Friends” in a complimentary color, and the line in the remiaining color.

Since all of the colors have readability issues on gray, it is best to use white text when used on gray.
