"For me, the best thing about the MBA is the methodology used throughout the program. It
is extremely interesting how students are guided but not taught; teachers give guidelines and
students do the research. In other words, Glion gives MBA students the tools to learn about
and conduct research into anything they need or want to. Due to the good job offers I have
been receiving, I may confirm that studying at Glion has been a very valuable investment for
my future–even allowing me to skip levels in the job hierarchy."

"What’s great about a hospitality degree is that you come out with experience, other programs
don’t do that. Sometimes people go into a master’s without experience and then even with their
degree they must start at the bottom, although they probably have the skills to grow and build
their careers faster. In the MBA, you also build the capacity to learn, adapt and advance much
faster. It is important to come into the degree with experience as it gives you the know-how,
and it makes you work hard, but then the MBA makes you work harder, you learn to push big
projects, to complete lengthy papers, etc. It is sort of the same environment as a hospitality
world with the fast-paced environment.”

Glion's Corporate Training SolutionsFor many organizations employee development and training can be a challenge, especially for those senior team members who
experience time pressure. For companies and organizations seeking professional development programs, Glion offers a range of
special programs designed to enhance individuals' leadership and management qualifications. These can be offered on-site, online,
or on campus in Bulle or London.
Glion provides a range of solutions designed for business giving companies the opportunity to discuss the courses available to improve
individual leadership and management qualifications. For exemple, one such course is the Glion MBA online program which offers
the flexibility to pace employees' studies while they continue to work. Glion also offers the possibility to earn Executive Certificates
of 12 credits each that allow you to continue your studies on the Glion MBA - online program. Our Glion Corporate Learning
Porgram solutions will help businesses and employees to build their own program by balancing their professional and personal life.
The Applied Business Project (ABP)If you are studying a campus-based or hybrid MBA program, or the
Master of Science in Hospitality Finance, the ABP is a chance for
you to work with managers from Glion’s industry partners - major
hospitality companies such as Kempinski, Nestlé Professional,
Mövenpick, and InterContinental - to address the company’s real,
current business issues.
Faculty members and managers collaborate to establish the aims
and objectives for each project. You conduct a qualitative and/or
quantitative investigation of the given problem, then offer insights
and practical suggestions in a management report presented before
the industry partner’s decision makers.
Finally, you reflect on your contribution in an individual project
based on learning theories. You, the school, and the company all
benefit.
"The Applied Business Project offers a remarkable chance to connect with the industry. I did
my ABP for Kempinski on a very interesting topic: how the current Kempinski sales process
across Europe impacts the top line. The ABP developed my business acumen and taught me
how to conduct research in a pragmatic way.
This MBA has helped me to advance my career in the hospitality industry. The ABP gave me
the opportunity to enter the Kempinski Hotels Group. I started with an entry-level position in
their headquarters as an Operations Coordinator. After one year, I was promoted to Regional
Operations Manager for Europe. I then moved on to become Regional Operations Manager for
India, the Middle East, and Africa, based in Dubai."

Examples of Applied Business Projects In an ABP with Kempinski Hotels, a long-term partner of Glion,
MBA students examined how to better motivate and retain
employees within the Generation Y demographic, who comprise
a majority of Kempinski’s front-line workforce but have tended
to be more transient than employees of other generations.
MBA students conducted focus-group interviews and data
analysis of Gen Y employees in Europe, China, Thailand, and
the Middle East. Employees reported they could benefit from
a career-planning program that would help them grow within
the career hierarchy, as well as cross-training programs that
would broaden their skill set.
This study has led to further ABP projects with Kempinski,
including the building of in-house training for Gen Y employees
and a proposal for a social media recruitment strategy to be
applied within the company.

"I did my first internship in Sochi during the 2014 Winter Olympic Games. It was an unforgettable
experience with a lot of hard work but even more memorable moments! I worked for iLUKA,
a specialized event agency that provides strategies, planning, and operational fulfillment for
sponsors and other stakeholders at global events. I was responsible for welcoming, hosting,
and guiding guests around Sochi and Olympic venues. My personal goal was to exceed guests'
expectations and make sure they were getting an unforgettable Olympic experience. This
internship allowed me to see myself as a part of such a global event as The Olympic Games,
and it proved to me that hospitality is the industry I want to grow within! It was fun, and there
were a lot of Glion students and alumni all around, so I felt supported by the Glion family."

Applied LearningLearning by doing is a vital part of the Glion educational approach. Therefore, you will participate in applied learning classes that will give
you hands-on experience. Through a progression from direct mentoring and guided lessons to more self-managed learning, you will develop
and refine your skills in real-world settings. Practical classes for postgraduate students take place on the Glion campus. Under the direct
supervision of instructors, you will have the opportunity to complete 10 weeks of practical activities during your three study blocks, covering
the areas of Food and Beverage and Rooms Division.
During the Food and Beverage component, students experience service in addition to food preparation and cooking in a variety of outlets
including quick service, counter service, and table service restaurants and bars. Health, safety and hygiene practices form a fundamental
part of students' applied learning experiences across both the Food and Beverage and Rooms Division disciplines.
During the Rooms Division component, students experience customer-facing roles in the environment of the Front Desk, dealing with
check-in and check-out procedures as well as the administrative duties of a modern Rooms Division department. Responsibilities include
the duties of the housekeeping department and employing a sound knowledge of cleaning practices.
Assessment of students' skills and associated competencies takes place daily through observation of tasks. Assessment of the applied theory
is both formative and summative through projects and written testing. The applied learning student journey is enhanced through not only
the building of skills and knowledge but also the development of teamwork capabilities and the ability to work with others in a multicultural,
international environment.

The Internship SemesterInternships add a critically important dimension to a graduate
education. You will have the chance to practice the operational and
management skills you learned on campus and deepen your practical
knowledge and understanding of the industry. Your internship can also
be a good opportunity to improve your foreign language skills, which
are increasingly essential in today’s global economy.
Of course, Glion internships are also door openers. Many employers
offer permanent positions to interns who impress them. Without
question, the real-world success of Glion graduates is accelerated by
their internships.
At the end of the academic program, students of the Master of Science
in International Hotel Management, Master of Science in Event,
Sport and Entertainment Management, and Postgraduate Diploma
in Hospitality Administration complete a one-semester internship
in the industry. Hospitality students gain work experience with an
international hospitality brand while ESE students advance their skills
by planning, organizing, and managing events of all kinds for Glion’s
real-world industry partners.

"Glion gave me the opportunity to start a global network, apart from my professional
contacts, that has been of great use so far. This really diverse and international environment
(27 nationalities in a class of 52!) helped me develop myself to see people for who they
are, accept differences, and accept some really unfamiliar ideas that I was introduced to
by my classmates, which I found astonishing. Did Glion help me to get my job? Definitely.
The job opportunity was posted by Glion’s career center - and the academic background
that I gained from Glion, plus having graduated from such a well-reputed school, definitely
gave me a boost during the shortlisting."

"Marriott International has a long and successful partnership with Glion, and for many years
we have benefited greatly by supporting career opportunities for excellent graduate talent
entering our industry. Career representations and educational tutorials have been made by
leaders and recruiters from all our continent locations who value the opportunity to interact
with great talent. It’s vital that anyone who is entering our business, and seeking a career
journey to management and leadership, first understands how to practically apply craft skills
and strategize within the core business parameters.
We find that Glion students demonstrate this effectively, and therefore they assimilate very well
into our hotels and other more specialist roles we may have, that is, at our head office locations.
We have seen great project work undertaken by a number of Glion graduates, all having a
direct impact on driving our business forward. We are seeing new technologies emerging in

How did you come to participate in this program?
Eddy: The Dean of Glion's Graduate Programs approached me one
day and offered me the chance to mentor a student who needed
support from someone in the industry. Nick was struggling to fit
in due to his age and previous experience, which was unmatched
by his fellow students. We had similarities in our experience
and profiles.
We did connect straight away. I was able to feel what Nick was
feeling, and understand what he was going through. So, I was
able to advise him from my own experience.
Nick: Eddy has been an excellent mentor who has helped me on
a professional and personal basis. When I was first introduced
to him, I was struggling to get a job offer and my morale was
very low. He helped me to focus on assessing my strengths and
weaknesses and working on a better résumé, and he gave me
great advice regarding interviews. On top of that, Eddy sent my
information to his own network, which was very helpful in getting
feedback from professionals. He also gave me some valuable
information regarding certain companies and properties that I
had been in contact with.
You were the first ones to experience this initiative. Would you recommend other students and alumni follow you?
Eddy: I believe it is positive for students to have role models to
support their early development. Some students are very stressed
by the idea of starting their work life, so this program will reassure
them while giving them structure and guidance. Building bridges
with the industry is also a bonus, and the earlier the better. After
all, this is also the “Glion Spirit”!
Nick: It is a great experience and really helps a lot. Glion does
have extremely qualified professors who all have extensive
knowledge and experience in the industry, but having access to
someone who is currently working in a management position
is an invaluable support to anyone looking at starting a career.
Are you still in touch?
Eddy: Definitely, yes! We actually wish we could work together
one day.
Nick: Of course! We are regularly in touch. Eddy has always been
very helpful when things were not going as well as I expected, and
I look forward to hopefully being able to work in the same hotel.
The Mentorship ProgramThe Glion Mentorship Program puts graduating students who are searching for a position in contact with alumni who can help
them with their search. It is a bridge into the student’s future life; one foot into reality. Glion interviewed the first student and

GLION IN BULLE: STUDENT LIFE
Study in SwitzerlandBesides its unparalleled landscapes and ideal location in Europe,
Switzerland is also one of the world’s best choices for education.
The concept of hospitality has its roots here, along with a tradition of
friendliness, hard work, and integrity. Swiss hospitality education is
world-famous for its standards of excellence and many hotels choose
Swiss-educated managers because of their strong work ethic, attention
to detail, genuine affinity for customer service, and effectiveness in
managing a diverse workforce.
Beautiful BulleThe city of Bulle is located in the heart of Gruyère, a lovely tourist
region at the foot of the Swiss Alps that is known for its cheese,
produce, and summer folk market. On a hill overlooking the Trême
river, Bulle has a charming Old Town that is just a few minutes’ walk
from campus.
Thanks to its prospering high-tech industry, Bulle is one of the fastest-
growing cities in Switzerland. Bulle’s population is about 20,000
inhabitants, 30% of whom are from abroad. Bulle’s lively cultural
scene includes clubs, bars, cinema, and galleries. And when you need
a study break, you can hike, run, or cycle on trails through the forest,
located only five minutes from the center of town.
Bulle is close to many other attractive destinations. It is a 10-minute
drive from Gruyères village, a medieval town dominated by one of the
most famous castles in Switzerland. It is 20 minutes from Fribourg,
a vibrant university town with shops, cafés, theaters, and lively
nightlife. It's 35 minutes from the Glion campus in Montreux and
just over an hour from Geneva. And with Europe’s excellent public
transportation infrastructure, you can easily make weekend trips to
France, Italy, Germany, and even the UK or Spain.
On Campus Home to postgraduate and MBA students, the Bulle campus offers a
comfortable living atmosphere and a dynamic learning environment.
The impressive, modern campus includes numerous classrooms, an
excellent library, and a new Academic Centre.
ActivitiesBulle provides a wonderful setting and lifestyle outside the classroom.
Its mountainous, lush surroundings offer outstanding sporting
activities, including downhill and cross-country skiing, mountain
biking, canyoning, rafting, boating, climbing, paragliding, and
horseback riding.
You will have access to a nearby fitness center, where you can take
classes in yoga, Zumba, and dance. Local sports clubs offer football,
rugby, skiing, basketball, and more. Teams from Glion’s Bulle and
Montreux campuses compete against one another and with teams
from Les Roches and other hospitality schools.
You will also have the chance to attend exhibition openings, concerts,
theater performances, and wine and gourmet food tasting events. And
perhaps best of all - you will make deep and lasting relationships with
your fellow students from all over the world.
While Glion students are training for management success, they are
also doing something equally important - they are having fun.

study destination of choice after the US.2 If that is not enough to
keep you busy, London is also one of the best-connected cities in
the world. The city’s ideal location and infrastructure enable you
to easily travel to the great cities of Europe and further afield, as
well as tour the many cultural and historical attractions of the UK.
The University of Roehampton - Downshire House Only 40 minutes from the West End, Glion London is located in
south-west London at Downshire House, a freshly renovated grade
II-listed Georgian building nestled on a newly developed green
parkland site within the campus of the University of Roehampton.
The first villa on the Downshire House site was developed in the
seventeenth century. Various redevelopments took place over
the centuries, while the country house was used as a private
residence. Since 1963, this beautiful surviving classical villa has
been in educational use, recently refurbished as a modern learning
environment with contemporary lecture and seminar rooms, study
areas, and social spaces.

34 | Glion Graduate School - A world of opportunit ies
"The reason we come to recruit at Glion is because Glion has
such a great reputation in Switzerland and around the world
for attracting great students to study their variety of courses.
The courses are well suited to the industry, in particular to
the luxury industry which we are a part of, so we chose to
partner with Glion for the caliber of their courses and the
caliber of their students.
Students from all schools bring talent and a variety of skills to
the hospitality industry. The difference with Glion students is
that they have a very good balance between their practical skills
and theoretical skills, which some of the other hotel schools
may not focus on as much. It's the mixture of skills from the
service side and the management theory which makes Glion
of particular interest to Ritz-Carlton."
