Issue 10 Term 1 Monday 8 April 2019

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Thanks for a great first term for the 2019 school year. We are very much looking forward to a break and wish all members of our school community a happy, safe Easter.

Please note that as we celebrate Easter with a hat parade this Friday, teachers may be in contact with the Easter Bunny and chocolate eggs will appear in classrooms…. What a treat!

If your child has any allergies that we are not already aware of, please let the office know ASAP. For non-chocolate eaters, there are other treats organised. What a clever bunny!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

The ANZAC school service will be a short service on Tue April 30 at 9:30am, as Anzac Day is in the holidays.

DETAILS:

Meet at 10:30am outside Ian’s Autos/Kennard’s area in Auburn St. The march starts right on 11:00am.

Wear full school uniform including all accessories and black school shoes.

We will meet parents in Market St or in Belmore Park near the memorial after the march. Teachers will supervise until you are able to collect your child. Students are welcome to stay for the service.

School captains will lead our school and Year 6 will assist as student leaders at the rear of our school group.

ROAD SAFETY

A near miss occurred in Knox St last week between a car and a student.

PLEASE FOR SAFETY’S SAKE, DO NOT CALL YOUR CHILD ACROSS THE ROAD.

WALK OVER AND CROSS WITH THEM.

This child was called across the road and ran between buses. The car driver (going under 40kph thank goodness) who narrowly missed the child rang to check that they were ok.

NO DRIVER, STAFF, STUDENT OR FAMILY NEEDS SUCH AWFUL NEWS. WE HAD A MINOR COLLISON IN KNOX ST JUST A FEW YEARS AGO BETWEEN CAR AND CHILD.

As a reminder:

This is why the bus gate is for bus children ONLY!

SCHOOL UNIFORM

As we move into winter uniform, please remember:

All jumpers, plain beanies, jackets, hair accessories are to be navy. No commercial products or “bling” is acceptable.

A safety warning also on wearing jewellery to school. Glitzy headbands, dingle dangles and necklaces can be a problem during play, so please do not allow your child to wear them to school.

PROFESSIONAL LEARNING FOR STAFF

Last Wednesday, teachers worked together in a ‘twilight session’ after school to investigate embedding digital technologies into all learning areas. They worked as a team investigating new devices that support coding and programming for all students.

Thanks teachers for giving up your time! We look forward to seeing this area of our learning continue to grow K-6.

Mathematical resources for the school. So let’s stick together and make this one the biggest yet.

Students will be able to return stickers to the office, their classroom teacher or

in the GWPS box at Woolworths.

Keep an eye out for stickers!!!!!

The school photos have arrived and will be sent home during the week.

Library News

The NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge has begun! This year, Infants students will be completing their

challenge during library lessons. Primary students will be expected to complete theirs at home, but

many of the classroom teachers will be supporting and encouraging their students to complete the

challenge. Most Year 3 students are eligible for their Gold awards this year, whilst Year 6 students are

eligible for their platinum awards (dependent on if they have completed the challenge each year they

have been at school). Infants students are expected to read 30 books, while for Primary students the

number required is 20. The challenge closes on August 30.

If students would like a recording sheet or a copy of the books on the challenge list, please see Mrs

Fitzgerald or Mrs Neville in the library. A lot of our library books are also on the PRC list and have

stickers on them indicating this – making it easier to find relevant books.

Tip of the Week

When accessing eBooks from the library catalogue, students will need their DEC username and

password (the same one they use at school to login to the computers) and they can access the cata-

logue either through their student portal or via the ePlatform by Wheelers app.

eBooks can be borrowed for two weeks and students can also reserve books that are currently being

borrowed.

LOST AND FOUND

Do any of these glasses belong to you?

Please see office staff if they are yours or if you know whose

they may be.

There has also been a large number of jumpers and other items in lost

property. Thanks to Mrs Bell for distributing jumpers with names on them

back to the children.

Please ensure that jumpers, lunch boxes, drink bottles etc have your child’s

name clearly printed on them.

Goulburn West will be running a Pokemon Club for students.

The club is for students interested in playing the Pokemon card game. There will be mentors for those new to the game.

They will meet during recess time, once or twice a week.

NO cards are to be brought in from home.

Due to some very generous donations from , and some of our Goulburn West families, the school has several decks of cards that the

club will play with.

If you have any questions about the club please contact Mrs Gooch.
