Insitu Commercial Division was honored as the 2017GTA Tech Organization of the Year for their work onemergency response related to the September 2017Eagle Creek Fire, the Fall 2017 California wildfires and theHurricane Harvey response. Raffle Raises Funds for GTA Scholarship, ApplicationsNow Accepted

As a GTA-first, we held a 50/ 50 raffle at our Dec 12Winter Party to raise funds for our Corwin HardhamMemorial Scholarship benefiting Gorge youth pursuingdegrees in science, tech, engineering and math (STEM).Tickets were available to purchase before the event forthose who could not attend. The raffle raised $860 for thefund, thanks to the generous contributions of ourmembers! The GTA wishes especially to thank Jill Vacekof Insitu as our raffle winner for donating her portion backto the fund.

We are also happy to announce that we are nowaccepting applications through March 19 for the 2018award. Please share the application with any localgraduating high school students pursuing STEM degrees.

Congrats to Robotics Teams, Volunteers Still Needed

The GTA hosted the annual FIRST LEGO League roboticstournaments in December for students ages 9 to 14. Outof 50 teams from around the five-county area, 15 werechosen to advance to the state competition in January.These events interest students in STEM and tie in wellwith the goals of the GTA to support STEM education.Each of the three one-day events generates it ownwinners. Big congrats go especially to the three first placeteams: The Natural Disasters and the Pink FluffyUnicorns, both from Wy'east Middle School, and theHydro Automatons from Hood River. RFQ for Trainers on Software Development Technology,Jan 5 Deadline

East Cascades Workforce Investment Board (ECWIB)released an RFQ with a Jan 5 deadline seeking qualifiedand experienced training programs to design and deliversoftware development technology training in Bend. Thesoftware development training will align with trainingrequirements for Apprenti, a national registeredapprenticeship program. Apprenti provides education andplacement support to eligible candidates in preparationfor a one-year apprenticeship in the technology field via anetwork of service providers and hiring partners. Serving Our Members: Workforce Training and Healthcare Benefits

To share a few ways the GTA has been working to serve our members and help the Gorge'stech industry grow and thrive:

Workforce Training: The GTA helped pull together several of our tech companies recentlyfor a joint workforce training, partnering with East Cascades Workforce Investment Board forgrant funds to partially cover costs.

Healthcare Benefits: This fall we announced a new benefit offering through partnershipwith BCI Group, a HUB International Company (BCI/ HUB). GTA members are offeredcarrier pricing and related networks/services through Providence, Regence, andUnitedHealthcare. Technology Offering: Precision Ground Measurements From an Unmanned AerialSystems (UAS) Platform, from Originating Lab: Naval Surface Warfare Center - CoronaDivision. Navy researchers have developed an aerial platform based measurement systemconfigured to operate in a variety of locations to measure distances, determine groundpoints, analyze speed of moving objects, and perform other velocity measurements andanalyses.
