I am writing this article in only my second week of being with

all of you as your Interim Pastor. What is striking to me is that the

theme of transition has shown itself to me in many ways ----

personally, in creation, and as I journey with you at CHULC.

Personally, I am going through a transition. After serving the

Church for 36 years as an active ELCA Pastor, I recently retired.

This is a new chapter in my life. I give thanks to God for where I

have served, and I look forward to where I will be led at this time

of my life. There are a lot of unknowns, but what I have learned in

my faith journey is to trust in God.

Creation is in transition all around me. As I drive back and

forth from my home outside of Wilkes-Barre, I marvel at the

changing colors of the leaves and fields along the way. The

landscape and foliage are changing from what was - to what is

and towards the hope of what will be - through the seeds that

    burrow into the ground.

Since Ive been here, many of you have shared with me your

impressions of your faith community. Its been conversations of

sadness and hope - of what was, and what can be. Through you I

have heard the echoes of the past mixed with the call towards for

It is a time for all of us to remember, that as God remains

faithful to us, we are to remain faithful to God, and to one another.

I would like to share with you a seasonal reflection I came

across in a resource called SundaysandSeasons:

As we move into autumn, let us allow the paradoxes of living

and dying, darkness and light, to just be. The two will conspire to

bring wholeness and health to every living thing. As we experience

living and dying, dying and living, our lives will be real and

    colorful, fruitful and whole.

Let us journey through these times of transition, and discover

together what blessings God has for us.

    Together in Christ,

    Pastor Peter Kuritz
