Miss Ayers is running low on riddles for our daily PowerPoints. Can you find any and email them to her? Yours might get included on the home learning presentations!

Pick one of the spellings from the Year 5/6 spelling mat that you are unsure of. Try writing a tongue twister for this spelling and test somebody in your house if they can say it 5 times in a row.

Go on Maths Frame Multiplication Check and see how many times table questions you can answer correctly out of 25. You will have 4 seconds to answer each question: https://mathsframe.co.uk/en/resources/resource/477/Multiplication-Tables-Check

Spend 30 minutes dedicated to mindfulness –you may want to do some yoga, colouring, reflection or meditation – whatever it is that keeps you calm and relaxed.

Visit the Harry Potter At Home Hub and listen to this week’s chapter of the Philosopher’s Stone: https://www.wizardingworld.com/collections/harry-potter-at-home

English – Writing FocusToday, we are going to analyse the vocabulary in the Dino Directory so that we are confident we can use subject specific language in our own writing.

Now read the Tyrannosaurus and Diplodocus entries in the Dino Directory: https://www.nhm.ac.uk/discover/dino-directory/tyrannosaurus.html and https://www.nhm.ac.uk/discover/dino-directory/diplodocus.html

All of the entries feature useful words that we would be able to use in our own dinosaur entry.

Chose your own words from the website or use the examples below to create vocabulary grids like this:

Pick three words to complete your own vocabulary grids on.

Pick five words to complete your own vocabulary grids on. To prove you understand their context, put your chosen words into a paragraph.

Pick five words to complete your own vocabulary grids on. Find a synonym that means the same as each of your chosen words. To prove you understand their context, put your chosen words into a paragraph.

Lunch Time Lunch time challenge!

This week we will be celebrating World Music Day (on 21st June 2020). This week we would like you to create your own musical instrument or piece of music. This could be something that you make and you can play or you could create a piece of music by using DJ equipment or an instrument you already play.

• Monday: Planning – Begin thinking about which place you are going to base your model’s design on. Is it something you have played before? Is it something you have heard before?? Today is a great day to start planning – you might want to sketch your plan and annotate it with all your amazing ideas.

• Tuesday: Gathering materials – Before you can get hands on and actually start making your model, you will need to think carefully about the materials you will need to make it a success. Label the materials you need on your plan although remember, you may have to compromise as resources may be limited! Try to be inventive with this – are there materials lying unused around the house that you could use or recycle any old food packaging to make your masterpiece? If you are thinking of making a music piece then start to gather the instruments or equipment you will need.

• Wednesday: Making – Today is your chance to get creating. You have thought carefully about your design and have gathered all the materials you need to make it so now you are ready to get started! Try to make your creation as inventive and colourful as possible – you will need to convince the judges that your music is the best! If you are creating music then get recording!

• Thursday: Today, it is time to make any finishing touches. Don’t forget to email a picture, explanation and any other work you’ve done towards your musical instrument across the week over to Miss Ayers by 1pm – [email protected]

• Friday: We will announce Mrs Macey’s winner of the competition un a newsletter which will be uploaded to the website.

• GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN J

Afternoon choices

Over the course of the week, you need to spend time completing the set tasks on the following subjects. You may choose which afternoon you would like to tackle each subject as long as by Friday, you have covered them all and have shown completion of the tasks in your book:• Art• French• History/Geography• Science• ICT• Reading comprehension• RRR

See details of this week’s required tasks on the following slides.

Page 18: Good morning, Badgers! Riddle of the day –What is seen in the …€¦ · Riddle of the day –What is seen in the middle of March and April that can't be seen at the beginning

Weekly tasksArt – Our artist of the week is William Morris.1. As an introductory task, find out 10 facts about him – you may present these in your books however you

wish e.g. fact file, poster, acrostic poem.2. Which piece of art of his is your favourite? Research this online and then write a paragraph about what it is

that you particularly like about it. Challenge – Can you use technical vocabulary to describe it? E.g. Colour, shape, composition, shade, tone.

3. Recreate one of his pieces in your book and then evaluate it, giving yourself three positives and a future target.

Science – Our topic this week will be linked to our World War 2 topic.1. During World War 2, many of the attacks took place during the night. Streetlights were switched off or

dimmed and shielded to deflect the light downward. Traffic lights and vehicle headlights were fitted with slotted covers to deflect the beam down to the floor.

2. Investigate materials that would have been best seen in a blackout, or not seen at all. To do this, you could turn all the lights out in a room and cover your windows with material or paper. Just have one small light source on in the whole room and test which materials are best at creating a blackout. You may plan your own investigation, or you may want to use the guide on the next slide.

Page 19: Good morning, Badgers! Riddle of the day –What is seen in the …€¦ · Riddle of the day –What is seen in the middle of March and April that can't be seen at the beginning

During the Second World War, most people living in Britain experiences bombing raids or the Blitz.

In Britain, people had to protect their homes during a bombing raid by creating a ‘blackout’. This meant that there could be no light at all coming from the house.

Which material will be the best at creating a blackout? Why do you think this? Try to use scientific vocabulary to support your answer.

where appropriate, in full sentences.3) Once you have answered all the questions, the answers are underneath the image of the questions. With

an adult, check through your answers and see how you have done.

RRR – Our article this week is article number 2

1) Each week, we will have a different right as a focus. As with French, there will be a presentation uploaded to the class page on the school website for you to work through. This will give information on the article itself as well as lots of learning ideas for you to have a go at. It is a flexible resource so allows you to dip into the areas you would like to have a go at.

2) Please send pictures to me of any work you complete on this so that I can share it with Mrs Bottle – I know she would be thrilled to see it and we can then share it with on the RRSA (Rights Respecting Schools Award) pages also.
