VOCATIONS CHALICE The Swartz Family will take the Vocation Chalice Home this week and pray the Vocations prayer together. Please sign up on the Welcome Table if you would like to take the Vocations Chalice home. The Prayer for Vocations:

Heavenly Father, Bless your Church with an abundance of holy and zealous priests, deacons, brothers and sisters. Give those you have called to the married state and those you have chosen to live as single persons in the world, the special graces that their lives require. Help those who have embraced the consecrated life to live up to their promises. Form us all in the likeness of your Son so that in Him, with Him and through Him we may love you more deeply and serve you more faithfully, always and everywhere. With Mary we ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Nov. 29 No Sessions/Thanksgiving Weekend The Rite of Entrance

The Rite of Entrance is patterned after the Rite of Welcome and Acceptance celebrated in The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults. This Rite symbolizes the teens entrance into the first year of Confirmation preparation (remote preparation). This first year of preparation begins with an assessment of the candidate’s knowledge, followed by a period of invitation. The period of invitation is an “inviting” for the candidates to explore and inquire more deeply about the Catholic Faith and the Church. It is also the time in which the candidate looks for and selects their confirmation sponsor. This period is begun with a Rite of Entrance into the Confirmation Process which we will celebrate on November 1 at 1 p.m. in the social hall. During the Rite teens are invited to come forward and receive a Bible from the Knights of Columbus. This gift is meant to help candidates deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ, and assist them on their journey of faith over the next two years. Our teen candidates in first year preparation for reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation are Rylee Andress, John Blackburn, Michaela Carr, Clayton Chase, Natalie Chapman, Gabrielle Chavez, Lily Cooper, Laura Fletcher, Ryan Fontaine, Camila Rosario, Zyrehart Roan, Rhiannan Shook, Kylie Shobe, Liliane Weibl. They will be accompanied by Shaniya Hall, Italia Hall and instructed in Catholic Faith and Traditions by their parents and their catechists: Kimberly Hamilton and Ellen Johnston.

BAPTISM INFORMATION Baptismal Preparation Sessions are held in Room 4 at 9:45. Baptismal Preparation is necessary for parents who desire to have their children baptized as well as for the godparents of the child. If you have not had a child previously baptized at Good Shepherd within a four-year period it is necessary to attend this session. Due to COVID-19 and the need for safe distancing we ask that you call the office (910- 425-5617) at least one week in advance to register for the session. Dates for Baptismal Preparation for 2020 are: November 1, and December 6. Dates for Baptismal Preparation for 2021 are: January 3, February 7, March 14, April 18, May 16, and June 13.

Morning sessions: 9:45 – 11:00 for grades K-5 Afternoon sessions: 12:45 – 2:15 for grades 6 -12 All sessions for both morning and afternoon are being held downstairs in the Social Hall. For drop off and pick up, use the entrances on the outside downstairs of the building. Students will only be dismissed to parent or guardians, unless a written letter has been submitted before class and parents are available via phone to be contacted. Due to necessary restrictions on class size, all children/youth must be registered one week prior to being admitted to class. If you have not yet registered your child(ren), please fill out a registration form.

ALTAR FLOWERS The Altar flowers this weekend are given for the greater glory of God and in Memory of Dan and Nan Taylor’s Families, given by Dan and Nan

Taylor.

SANCTUARY LIGHT The Sanctuary Light will illuminate the Blessed

Sacrament this week in Honor of the Miller and Rodriguez Families, given by Sandra Rodriguez.

While we have Veterans Day in the fall and Memorial Day in the spring, our servicemen and women sacrifice their time and safety every single day of the year, to preserve our freedom. In many homes across the U.S., there is an empty

seat for one who is serving, or one who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Our mission is to Remember, Honor, and Teach all year long, far beyond the single day in December when we coordinate wreath laying ceremonies. All throughout the year, Wreaths Across America works in a number of ways to show our veterans and their families that we will not forget. We are doing our share at Good Shepherd through the Widow's Watch ministry. You can purchase/donate a wreath at 1 for $15 or 3 for $30. Make check out to Good Shepherd and put Wreaths on the memo line; can mail it in, drop off at the office, or put in the collection basket. REMEMBER our fallen U.S. Veterans. HONOR those who serve. TEACH your children the value of freedom.

Voting with a Clear Conscience Information is provided to help you vote in the upcoming election and all future elections. Good Shepherd does not support any candidate or political party. Series Six: KEEP YOUR LOYALTY FOCUSED ON GOD When you vote, you show where your loyalties are. There is nothing wrong with being loyal to a candidate or to a political party. But no loyalty should be stronger than your loyalty to Jesus Christ. Ask yourself, “Is there any position that my party takes that contradicts my Christian faith?” In Living the Gospel of Life, the US Bishops remind us, “We get the public officials we deserve Their virtue—or lack thereof—is a judgment not only on them but on us. Because of this, we urge our fellow citizens to see beyond party politics, to analyze campaign rhetoric critically, and chose their political leaders according to principle, not party affiliation or mere self-interest” (n. 34) Sometimes people vote according to the party of candidate, perhaps because that’s a family tradition, or because some group of friend has asked them to do so. But party platforms change, and it is important to read the latest version (see www.politicalresponsibility.com). If the platform of that party today contradicts the platform of the Gospel and the moral law, you need to have the inner freedom to depart from personal, family, or community tradition and vote instead for the candidate and party that best reflects God’s law. Before belonging to any party or organization or family, we first belong to Jesus Christ.

DIVINE MERCY NOVENA Divine Mercy Novena in honor of All Souls will begin November 2, 2020. The Novena which will conclude on November 10, 2020. A Divine Mercy Chaplet will be chanted for the End to the Culture of Death, Healing of the Church, and Vocations on Sunday, November 8, 2020, 1:00pm in the Church. For those who cannot attend, we will Facebook Live stream the Chaplet. What is the Divine Mercy Novena, how and why do I pray it? While the Chaplet can be said anytime, the Lord specifically asked that it be recited as a Novena, promising that “By this Novena (of Chaplets), I will grant every possible grace to souls” (Diary 796). For each of the nine days of the Divine Mercy Novena, our Lord gave Saint Faustina a different intention: Day 1 - All mankind, especially sinners. Day 2 - The souls of priests and religious. Day 3 - All devout and faithful souls. Day 4 - Those who do not believe in God and those who do not yet know Jesus. Day 5 - The souls who have separated themselves from the Church. Day 6 - The meek and humble souls and the souls of little children. Day 7 - The souls who especially venerate and glorify His mercy. Day 8 - The souls detained in purgatory. Day 9 - The souls who have become lukewarm. "I desire that during these nine days you bring souls to the fountain of My mercy, that they may draw there from strength and refreshment and whatever grace they have need of in the hardships of life, and especially at the hour of death" (Diary, 1209). Copies of the Divine Mercy Novena can be found on the Welcome Table.
