IMPORTANT NOTICES WELCOME GOLDEN PLAINS TIMES
Council would like to welcome the Golden Plains Times to our Shire, and thank Alan and Debbie from the Miner for their stellar efforts over the years.
Council is excited to welcome this new business, and the wider distribution of important, local information it brings, to our Shire. It can be difficult at times reaching our residents and having the Golden Plains Times reach further into the northern end of our Shire is a great opportunity for the community to stay informed about what’s happening. We also would like to express our sincere thanks to Alan and Debbie for pioneering the Miner, which has provided quality support of our local communities.

mayor’s messageCouncil has been paying close attention and listening to our community members’ feedback about their rates notices.
All Councillors are also ratepayers and active members of our communities, and we identify closely with the issues we are hearing about. Council’s approach to setting property rates is part of the adopted Council Budget each year. This Budget went through the formal adoption process including the community submission process (which is a formal statutory process under section 223 of the Local Government Act) therefore rates for the 2018-19 year are fixed. While the 18/19 Budget cannot be changed, residents can make an objection to their valuation by filling out an objection form (which can be found on our ‘About your rates and valuations page’ on our website).
Council commits to a full and fresh approach to rating distribution as a part of next year’s 2019-20 Budget process and we genuinely encourage residents
to get in touch with us to provide their suggestions ahead of the Budget’s development. Council will also increase its lobbying efforts for greatly increased State and Federal funding. Our challenge is our fast growing population; our low rate is placing significant pressure on Council, and in turn on our residents, as we strive to provide everyone with the necessary services and infrastructure. I encourage any residents who may be facing difficulty paying their rates, to contact Customer Service on 5220 7111.Cr Helena Kirby, Mayor of Golden Plains Shire Council
INTRODUCING GOLDEN PLAINS LOCALISED
More than 80% of local businesses want to support other local businesses, but less than half of them actually do!
And the number one reason why they don’t? It is hard to find a local. We know our residents want to back local businesses too – supporting each other is a big part of our close knit communities. This is why Council, Bannockburn Chamber of Commerce and Localised are partnering to deliver Golden Plains Localised – a free local business digital network that will help local businesses:
1. Advertise their goods and services locally 2. Engage with other businesses to get local quotes 3. Discover regional networking and professional development events. If you run a business in Golden Plains, or want to find a local business, get connected today at goldenplains.vic.gov.au/localised.
SENIORS FESTIVAL 2018
Celebrate this year’s Victorian Seniors Festival this October with great events all over Golden Plains Shire!
The Seniors Festival is a great opportunity to get out and about with likeminded people in the Shire. You could join Family History Detective Tricia Curry of Tricia’s Tracings to find out more about family history research. Get support from a young person with your technology challenges at a drop in session, attend a FREE presentation which covers the importance of being healthy and active as we age, take a mystery bus tour and much more. Find out more by searching for ‘Seniors Festival’ on our website.
CREATE CRATE EOI
Council is seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI) from any interested incorporated community group within the Shire who would like to take ownership and management of the Create Crate activation trailer.
Council would like to donate the Create Crate to a community group within the Shire to utilise as a fundraising source for their group and to manage the hiring of the trailer for the purpose of ongoing community participation and activation. There will be no cost to the community group who is successful in their applications for the trailer and its contents. Find out more by searching ‘Create Crate EOI’ on our website.
