This 50’ standard box car with plug doors is painted box car red with black ends. The Nickel Plate Road herald is white and the car is lettered in white. It was built in December 1963 by General American’s East Chicago Shops and runs on Bettendorf trucks. Nickel Plate Road had its origin in 1881. It was merged into the Norfolk and Western on October 16, 1964. Its reporting marks began to be listed under N&W in the 1965 issue of the Official Railway Equipment Registry (ORER). The Nickel Plate reporting marks carried over to the N&W and the new Norfolk Southern and ceased to be listed after the July 1998 issue of ORER.

This 50’ standard box car with plug door and no roofwalk is painted yellow with aluminum roof and ends. It bears the red, white and blue UP shield with the company’s 1970s era slogan ‘WE CAN HANDLE IT’ in red. Lettering is in black and red. The car was built in February 1964, serviced in May 1976, and runs on Barber® Roller Bearing trucks. Cars in this series were originally built by the UP at the Omaha Shops in February 1964 and numbered in the 499900 series. They were serviced and renumbered into the 492801-492970 series in May 1976. During the 1970s, UP began applying the ‘We Can Handle It’ slogan to their freight.

This 50’ standard box car with double plug doors and no roofwalk is painted dark green with light green right plug door. It bears the BCR Dogwood Flower logo, is lettered in white and runs on Barber® Roller Bearing trucks. This car was built in February 1974 by U.S. Railway Manufacturing Co. of Blue Island, IL. Cars designated ‘BCIT’ apply to an international series used only on traffic between Canada and the United States, while cars designated ‘BCOL’ can be used on shipments moving within Canada or on international movements. This car is ideally suited for commodities such as lumber where a wider than normal opening is required. The plug doors give additional strength with the convenience of a wider door opening.

This 30’ flat car with log load is painted box car red with white lettering. It was built early in the 20th century by St. Charles Car Works of St. Charles, MO, serviced in July 1938, and runs on Bettendorf trucks. Originally built for the Colorado and Southern as stock car series 7015-7134 in the early 1900s, many of these cars were stripped down to their decks and used as flat cars without changing the reporting marks or reassigning the cars to a different series.

This 40’ standard box car with plug door and no roofwalk is car #13 of a 44-car series representing each of the presidents of the United States. It bears the portrait of our 19th president, Rutherford B. Hayes. Hayes’ decision to favor Paraguay in arbitration following the War of the Triple Alliance in South America made him a hero. A city, a regional historical museum, schools, roads as well as a soccer team in Paraguay were named for him.

These 40’ flat cars with generator loads are painted black with white logos and lettering. They were built in August 1942 and run on Roller Bearing trucks. Originally built in 1942 for New York Central and numbered into the 499300-499599 series, thes flat cars were converted to auto frame cars and renumbered into the new series 480750-480849 in the early 1960s.

This 40’ standard box car with plug door is car #15 of a 50-car series representing each of the 50 states in the union. It bears the Yellowhammer and Camellia, Alabama’s official state bird and flower. The flag of the state of Alabama is in the background. The road number 1819 represents the year the ‘Heart of Dixie’ was admitted into the union.

They were rebuilt, repainted into the blue scheme and renumbered into series 3500-3574.

This passenger baggage car is painted aluminum with scarlet red band and logo, gray ‘Southern Pacific’ and black lettering. It was delivered to the SP in 1950 and runs on passenger trucks. In 1950 the streamlined Sunset Limited went into service between Los Angeles and New Orleans. The cars were stainless steel with a red letterboard, known as the Sunset Paint Scheme.

Pennsylvania Railroad Baggage Car Road Number 7905

This passenger baggage car is painted Tuscan Red with black roof and buff logo and lettering. It was built in February 1926 by Pressed Steel Car Co. and runs on black passenger trucks. This car is marked between the doors for the Railway Express Agency which offered priority handling of small shipments in passenger train baggage cars.
