From the Editor

My apologies for not getting out the February Newsletter. Our family had a member unwell and passed away when the Newsletter was due. February has gone with a few of the Club members attending an event at Gnoo Blas, Orange. There were about 40 trucks, with over 400 cars including motorbikes, on display. March was also a busy month as per the events available. Wellington Vintage Fair & Swap Meet and Cumnock Show was on the same 1st weekend in March. Decisions had to be made on which event to attend! Coonabarabran Show on the following weekend. The Mack Musters were on in March as well! Crawlin the Hume is on in April, with a few of the local members planning on attending. August will be soon upon us, so lock in 13th August 2016, for the Golden Oldies Truck Club Truck Show. One Truck Show you cannot miss! Preparations are under way to make it bigger and better than the last show. Next Meeting: Monday March 28th, 2016, 7.03pm. Aero Club. Dubbo Airport.

Narromine Road. Dubbo.

A new Vehicle Movement Log has been produced and will be sent out with each registration renewal. Please return old "Club Log Book" at time of renewal to Club Registrar.

For those who have opted in on the 60 day Log Book Scheme, ensure you fill out the RMS "log" for every day you use your vehicle! Any vehicle movement on this scheme results in one calendar day used.

Business Arising:

1. After re-reading a letter sent to GOTC, Brian reported that he has had a phone call from Robert Moore re this

letter he sent to our club at the end of last year making several requests re the Truck Show in August. He was

very upset & became abusive because we didn’t give him an answer immediately. With great patience &

restraint on Brian’s behalf, he was able to calm him down enough to explain that such allocations etc have not

yet been organised, and will be worked on very shortly.

2. Brian was talking to Paddy Ward and received and invite for the GOTC to attend the Gnoo Blas Classic Car

& Bike Show to be held 13-14th

February.

3. Brian received an email from a lady at Rockhampton wanting info re the upcoming Truck Show. She wants

to send her father down to attend this event.

4. Brian has received several requests for stall sites at the show. There are limited sites available. We will start

looking into this now, and rules that absolutely must be strictly adhered to.

5. The people from Goondiwindi who have donated the Commer Truck state that it will be available at the end

of February for collection.

6. On the Forum emails: Brian & Jon made the decision to join Southern Motoring Association following

discussions at our November meeting, and have a membership number. We needed this so as Jon could access

the information becoming available on the Forum in December. Jon tabled emails that have been received.

Some discussion followed on making emergency fast decisions like this, and the correct protocol according to

our Constitution will be followed in future.

7. Important Information: If you are registered for the 60 Day Log Book Scheme, make

sure your paperwork is up to date BEFORE you set out on your journey. Failure to do so

will result in no Insurance, No Rego. The onus is on the OPERATOR of the vehicle. The

operator must be a financial member of a registered club.

ALL Historic registered vehicles must only carry 2/3 manufacturers load

recommendations.

8. Peter Kuhner thanked GOTC for loan of the trailer and contents to help with a small fundraiser for a

struggling family now getting to know what it is like when a parent is struck down with Cancer.

9. Noma & Rosalie have been busy and have now finished the tablecloths to be used at our Official Dinner at

the truck show. The fabric was very kindly donated. They have now been sent to the commercial laundry for

laundering and pressing. It will be OK to pay the Laundromat when the account is received (we are getting

them done at a discount rate so we will issue a formal thank you when it is done).

Gnoo Blas, Orange. February 2016.

A few of the Golden Oldies Truck Club members made their way to Orange on the weekend of 13th February. There was a great display of trucks, cars, motorbikes of various manufacturers. There was even a live band playing music from the Beatles. It was a great day out, even though it was a bit warm!

Business Arising: Letter was written to Robert Moore in response to a letter full of criticisms and complaints

regarding our arrangements and organising for the upcoming Truck Show. His response then was the letter to

Brian Little, marked “PERSONAL”, in which was a somewhat contrite letter, and he also declined to have the

Howard Register present at our show. Since the letter was sent to Brian, and marked personal, it was decided

that no further action was necessary from GOTC. File it.

A letter indicating interest in holding a food van stall was received from The Mexico (a mobile food trailer). OK

was given and paperwork to be sent out.

Jon, Nathan & Brian went to Goondiwindi to retrieve the old Commer that has been donated to GOTC. They left

early on Saturday morning, loaded & came back. They went in Jon’s truck, and along the way borrowed John

Knight’s trailer and brought the lot back to Dubbo. The plan is to tidy it up and present it in it’s working clothes.

Brian moved that a contribution be made for the fuel used. Dockets produced. OK was given.

A few of our members went to Gnoo Blass at Orange. A very good show, and was enjoyed by those who

attended.

Graham Barker has put his F350 onto the Log Book Trial Scheme. A short discussion was had on this.

The Vintage Fair is coming up in Wellington. We will be taking part in this event. Meet at Noel Woodyard’s

place at 10 0’clock.

Peter Kuhner asked permission to borrow the GOTC trailer on ANZAC day weekend for Saturday 23/4/16. OK

given.

A new screed has been prepared TO KEEP for future reference regarding New Registrations and Renewal

Registrations.

An invoice was received from Bright & White Laundromat. This was for the laundering and pressing of the new

tablecloths to be used at our Truck Show Dinner. They have not charged us for this, but will become sponsors

for our big event. Paperwork to be sent to them.

Social Events organised: Peter used to organise some mystery trips on the Wednesday following our meeting.

Wellington Vintage Fair, 2016.

Some of the Golden Oldies Truck Club members attended the Wellington Vintage Fair parade on the Saturday, 6th March. The parade consisted of Sooty, the Traction Engine and various cars, tractors, motorbikes and of course Trucks. Truck numbers were down a little, as Cumnock's Show was on the same weekend. Some of these trucks were on display on the Sunday. The day was warm and many people lined the footpath as the parade snaked its way through Wellington's main street.

Commer Goondiwindi Trip

A decision had been made at an earlier Club Meeting to take up the offer of a Commer truck being kindly donated to the Golden Oldies Truck Club. It was decided that Brian Little, Jon & Nathan Mancer would travel to Goondiwindi and pick up the truck. We all left on the Friday night and travelled to Coonabarabran to meet up at John Knight's place, as he had kindly allowed us to use his drop deck trailer to collect the Commer truck.

We camped at Coonabarabran overnight and left early the next morning. It was an uneventful trip to Goondiwindi with us arriving at the BP Truck Stop about 11.00am. Time to give the truck a drink and time for us to have a snack us well.

A quick phone call let the owners of the Commer know we were in Goondiwindi and to get directions to their place. We then entered the address into the GPS and took off. Well, the GPS took the shortest route of course and sent us through the main streets of Goondiwindi. The main street was nice and beautiful. This was very interesting as the trees were large and bushy, small roundabouts and not truck friendly. Better get out of here. Took a side street and ended up at a dead end, so swing around and headed up in another direction towards our destination.

About 15 minutes later we arrived at the Commer. Phew! Got out, met the owners and had a chat. Looked at where the Commer was, and found it parked against the shed. Not too hard to get too. Excellent! Turn the step deck around, back up, drop the ramps and winch the Commer on. It was that easy but the day was bl**dy hot!

Once loaded, back to the BP for a drink and snack, we headed back to Dubbo. A quick stop at Moree to check the chains and have a drink and back on the road. Another stop at the Amber Court at Coonabarabran to see Knighty, (thanks John for the use of the trailer) and then at Gilgandra for Dinner and then to Dubbo. Once at Dubbo, we thought we would unload the following day as it was well after dark.

The next day we unloaded the Commer. It rolled off the step deck with very little effort and was towed up near the Club's other Commer. Both trucks are expected to be on display at this year's Truck Show at Dubbo.
