    October 1990and Berlin

    was made the capital.

    Religion and its practice form an important partof the German Constitution.

    According to the Constitution of Germany,freedom of faith and religion is guaranteed toevery individual.

    Discrimination based on difference of religiousopinion is prohibited by the Constitution.

    Germanys main religion is Christianity,dominated by the two strands of RomanCatholicism and Protestantism.

    There is a 3.2 per cent minority population ofMuslims in Germany, according to the USDepartment of States report of 2006.

    The greetings in this culture consist of the most common thehandshake.

    The man is to wait until women puts her hand forward before shakingit.

    Also crossing someone else's handshake is inappropriate.

    Some gestures used in this culture are not chewing gum in public it isinappropriate.

    Talking with your hands in your pockets is disrespectful.

    Instead of crossing the fingers for good luck they simply squeeze theirthumb.

    The dating in Germany is different than that in the United States. Theyeach pay for their own food and entertainment unless a specialoccasion.

    This is a culture that honors forward thinking andknowing what they will be doing at a specific time on a

    specific day.

    Careful planning, in one's business and personal life,

    provides a sense of security.

    Rules and regulations allow people to know what is

    expected and plan their life accordingly.

    Germans believe that maintaining clear lines of

    discrimination between people, places, and things is the

    surest way to lead a structured and ordered life.

    Work and personal lives are rigidly divided.

    There is a proper time for every activity. When thebusiness day ends, you are expected to leave the office.

    If you remain after normal closing, it indicates that you

    did not plan your day properly.

    Shaking hands is the German way of greeting each other. It is

    often important to shake hands with each and every

    individual in the group.

    Germans are most conscious of their environment. Do not

    dare to throw garbage as and where you please.

    If you want to call someone just raise your hand with the palm

    facing out and only the index finger extended. Waving or

    shouting is considered to be impolite.

    Do not hesitate to whisper something confidential to the

    person sitting beside you. Germans do not consider

    whispering to be a rude habit.
