    Geometry CP Syllabus

Course DescriptionThe fundamental purpose of the course in Geometry is to formalize and extend students geometric experiences from

the middle grades. Students explore more complex geometric situations and deepen their explanations of geometricrelationships, moving towards formal mathematical arguments. Important differences exist between this Geometrycourse and the historical approach taken in Geometry classes. For example, transformations are emphasized early inthis course. Close attention should be paid to the introductory content for the Geometry conceptual category found inthe high school CCSS. The Mathematical Practice Standards apply throughout each course and, together with thecontent standards, prescribe that students experience mathematics as a coherent, useful, and logical subject thatmakes use of their ability to make sense of problem situations.

NotebookMaintaining a notebook will help improve your grades and a notebook quiz will be given at the end of each unit.Notebook sections should include warm-ups, notes/classwork, homework, and lastly, quizzes. We will spend the firstfew days of class getting notebooks organized.

HomeworkHomework will be assigned on a nightly basis, and will be reviewed the next class period. Students will take lessonquizzes the day after a new lesson is taught. Those students who have completed their homework from the night

    before will receive an incentive.

General InformationTests are given at the end of each chapter, and quizzes are given about every 3 sections. Tests will count twice, andquizzes will count once. In order to take a test on the assigned day students have to have completed all ofthe lesson quizzes and major quizzes. If a student has a test score that is below 70, then a mandatory 5 th blocksession will be assigned for remediation and the student will retake the test. My website contains lesson notes andpractice worksheets completed.

Make-Up WorkI will have a folder for each class with make-up work and it is the students responsibility to inquire about assignmentsmissed.

Students who submit work after the due date may be penalized up to 20% of the possible points. Students havefive class periods or ten school days in which to submit late work assignments. After this window of time

expires, acceptance of late work is at the teachers discretion.

Before a major test/assessment is given, each teacher will determine a set criteria for the student to be deemed

prepared. Each teachers specific plan will be outlined in their class syllabus. This set criteria may include

completion ofall lesson quizzes, chapter quizzes, homework assignments and projects.

When a major assignment/assessment is not completed at the scheduled time, a student will receive a grade of

Incomplete with a numerical value of 0. The teacher must contact the students parent/guardian in suchcircumstances. Failure is not an option. The assessment must be completed within the assigned time frame.High school courses of instruction will require reassessment opportunities when a student receives a grade

below 70 on a major assessment for the grading period. Before a reassessment is given, a remediation session

will be assigned. Students will be assigned a grade on the retake based on the School District of Oconee CountyGrading Policy. Correction of errors on a test or an assignment does not represent a reassessment activity.

Students with missing grades will be assigned an I for missing/incomplete assignments until the assignmentshave been completed. 5th Block can be assigned for students with missing grades. Failure to attend an assigned

5th Block session will result in referral to administration.

    Minimum/Floor grades follow district policy.

    Goals:

    1. To hold individual students accountable for their own learning.

    2. To eliminate zeroes from student grades.

    3. To increase remediation opportunities for students.
