It started with an indigenous development of 60channel UHF Analogue Radio followed by design and productionfor Indian Oil Corporation and Department ofTelecommunications (DoT). More than 250 Radios are workingin the field. GCEL collaborated with AWA Australia for Digital

Microwave Radio and supplied Multihop link to 10C.

On transmission side GCEL pioneered the design of Pulse CodeModulation (PCM) and productionised with technology fromTelecommunication Research Centre (TRC) of DoT. GCEL alsocame out with indigenously designed Line Repeater equipmentsfor which it received the National award from DSIR for the bestR&D efforts in 1989.

Based on the technical know-how obtained from C~DoT for

Rural Automatic Exchange (RAX), GCEL supplied theseequipments to DoT and also exported to Nep",-alTelecommunications Corporation. GCEL entered into atechnical collaboration with Siemens of Germany for themanufacture of Electronic Push Button Telephones. To cater tosuch continuous requirements of Push Button Telephones andRAX, another manufacturing unit was set up at Gandhinagar.

GCEL entered into the Satellite Communication business with

Data Collection, Storage & Transmission Systems manufacturedbased on the technology received from Space Application Centreof ISRO. Many such systems were supplied to IndianMeteorological Department. GCEL then entered into technicalcollaboration with HNS, USA for Digital SCPC system andsupplied the complete network to NTPC and ONGC. GCELthen came out with indigenously designed C-Band / Extended CBand Up-Down Converters for Satcom applications. Thisexperience prompted GCEL to design and supply a RemoteMonitoring System to Doordarshan for monitoring theirunattended Transmitters.

Fibre Optic Communications is going to have great demand in.thefuture. GCEL has entered into this business area with Optical

Line Terminal Equipment (OLTE) and Fibre in the Loop (FITL)system based on technology transfers.

GCEL is the only company having indigenously designed State ofthe art TDMA system required both for DoT & Non-DoTapplications.

Continuous orders from DoT has led to setting up of DoT

Resident inspection cells in GCEL at Baroda and Gandhinagarunits.
