150 teachers felicitated by GCEL GMR Chhattisgarh Energy Ltd., through GMR Varalakshmi Foundation, a non-profit CSR arm of GMR group, today felicitated 150 teachers of 12 village schools on their exemplary work on education at a program held in GMR Chhattisgarh Energy Ltd. (GCEL) plant campus Raikheda. The function was chaired by GCEL COO S Ravi Shanker and graced by retired Principal Iswari Prasad Sharma. Education cluster coordinator Bala Ram Verma and other distinguished Guests along with Project Manager GCEL Sandeep Pachpor were present on the dais. The programme began through lighting of the Lamp and offering of garlands to the goddess Saraswati and Sarvapalli Dr. Radhakrishnan. More than 150 teachers from the villages of Raikheda, Sontara, Mura,Chicholi, Bartori, Tulsi, Tilda, Khamariya and Gaitara among other gram panchayats were felicitated with shawl and shreephal by the employees of GCEL. More than 20 male and female students performed dance numbers and spoke about the importance of the teachers through speeches and rhymes. Addressing to the gathering, COO GCEL said: “Teachers play a very important role in the society as they provide education and show the right way to the children and youths. They should put their best efforts so that every child becomes a responsible citizen in the society”. Retired principal Sharma said: “All teachers should focus on quality of education at all govt. schools so that students of the village govt. schools can also become a good citizen of the country as well as villages. Project Manager Sandeep Pachpor said: “Since ancient times teachers have been playing special role in the society and worship of Guru is done prior to that of God Govind. ”At the end of the programme all the guests were felicitated with mementoes. Welcome speech was extended by GMRVF program leader and vote of thanks was extended by GCEL project Manager Sandeep Pachpor. Some other social activities of GCEL in the recent past •Introduction of Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) to provide free health services to 6 villages situated near the Plant. •Distribution of TOMS shoes to more than 2300 primary school students in the surrounding villages. •Introduction of dedicated vehicle to transport girl students from nearby villages to Tilda Degree College. •Plantation of saplings at regular intervals in the identified area under the CG Government’s Hariyar Chhattisgarh theme. •Distribution of fish seeds to more than 50 fishermen of Raikheda village for their livelihood.

150 teachers felicitated by GCEL GMR Chhattisgarh Energy Ltd., through GMR Varalakshmi Foundation, a non-profit CSR arm

of GMR group, today felicitated 150 teachers of 12 village schools on their exemplary work on education at a program held in GMR Chhattisgarh Energy Ltd. (GCEL) plant campus Raikheda.

1000 plantlets planted by GMRVF On 3rd Aug 2015 Govt. of Chhattisgarh under the theme of Hariyar (Green) Chhattisgarh, saplings were planted in several places of CG state. Under the same theme GMR Varalakshmi Foundation; a nonprofit wing of GMR Chhattisgarh Energy Ltd. planted saplings in their project affected villages of Chicholi, Gaitara, & Khapri madhi.

3rd August, being the first Monday of Shravan month, about 100 saplings have been planted at Banjari Mandir in Marhi Panchayat and in Primary and Middle schools in Gaitra panchayat. On the occasion COO, Mr. Ravi Shanker, VP, Mr. Sandeep Pachpor, Mr. Harinath, Mr. Sangram Kanungo, Mr. Bhola Prasad Kushwaha, Mr. Atul Gupta and Ms. Lakshmi Kumari along with two journalists did the plantations. Despite of the drizzle and intermittent rainfall, the Sarpanches of Gaitra, Khamharia along with the villagers, and the President of Banjari temple committee were present on the occasion. The program started with reverence to goddess Banjari & god shiva’s rudrabhisek by COO Mr. Ravishanker and other dignitaries. After this under the welcome program the president of Banjari mandir temple and their members felicitated Mr. Ravishankar S by Shawl and Shrifal. Addressing the gathering, COO said that our company GMR is devoted towards the best social works in the nearby villages and to its environment, and this will continue to improve in the time to come.

After the plantation activity, the members visited the middle school in Gaitra village to distribute TOMS SHOE to the school children.

GMRVF Inaugurated MMU in village

Khamariya GMR Varalakshmi Foundation (GMRVF) a non-profit wing of GMR Group has inaugurated its first

Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) at village Khamariya on Monday 29th June.

The MMU was inaugurated by Shri. S Ravi Shanker - Chief Operating Officer, GCEL and Shri. Namesingh Katariya – Sarpanch, Gram Panchayat Khamariya by Lighting of the lamp and breaking of coconut and worshiping of Goddess Saraswathi.

Addressing the gathering Sri. Ravi Shanker said that this MMU will be helpful to those families who are unable to move outside for their treatment and this type of practice will continue in the near future also. Sarpanch Namesingh Katariya was thankful to GCEL for the inauguration of the 1st such mobile medical unit (MMU) in his Gram Panchayat.

Under the proactive steps of corporate social responsibility, GMRVF will be providing absolutely Free health services to 6 villages namely Khamariya, Bartori, Tulsi, Tarashiv, Bahesar & Konari coming along the GCEL railway corridor. The MMU will provide medicines and basic treatment among the target groups at their door steps. MMU will be manned by qualified doctor, pharmacist and nurse cum community worker. Apart from providing health services among target communities the doctor along with his team will also generate health awareness among women, children and elderly. The services are designed in such a way that each village will be visited 4-5 times in a month. This unit will run under the support of Tilda Janjagran Samiti.

GMRVF observes World Youth Skill Day

GMR Varalakshmi Foundation (GMRVF) a non-profit wing of GMR Chhattisgarh Energy Ltd. (GCEL) observed the most prestigious World Youth Skill Day at Tilda on 15th July 2015 .In order to empower unemployed youth through skill training and entrepreneurship development programs GMRVF is conducting a village based short term vocational training on General Electrical Works at Raikheda since July, 2011. In the Vocational training planned by GMRVF, emphasis is given on developing the entrepreneurial spirit in youth by increasing confidence and motivation levels and improving communication skills.

Apart from this, courses on Domestic Electrical Works, Mobile Repairing, Two-wheeler repairing and TV repairing have also been started. Domestic Electrical Works and Mobile Repair courses are being run in partnership with Women Polytechnic College, Raipur. More than 151 youth (girls & boys) have joined the program so far. The objective of the program is to increase awareness about various on-going skill development programs by various partners. During the awareness program, GMRVF discussed about its on-going Youth skill program in Chhattisgarh in which 151 students have been trained , out of which approx. 65% trained students have started their own shops or business or are engaged in technical jobs in the industries.

The program was graced by S Ravi Shanker - Chief Operating Officer, GCEL, Anand Bharadwaj ,program officer , Livelihood Mission, Harish Kumar Singh Principal ITI, Tilda and other GCEL & GMRVF officials .

Addressing the gathering, GCEL COO S Ravi Shanker said “Local youth should develop skills as per industry needs so that local employment can be provided at plant.” He discussed about his experience in skill development program. Anand Kumar shared about the various skill development programs being conducted in the government and also briefed on the essential placement component. He also linked skill and entrepreneurship through Livelihood Mission program, while Principal of ITI, Mr. Harish talked about the on-going programs in his institute. Simultaneously, the challenges of dropouts during training or students not ready to go out of village or district for training were also discussed by the speakers. Ravi Kaslikar, Manager Electrical GCEL also spoke about skill development for motivating the youth.

3 trained students under GMRVF Program shared their experiences - One of them is running his own TV repairing Workshop and earning Rs. 7000 per month after meeting all his workshop expenses. At the end of the program, a vote of thanks was given by Raghuvendra Taxak, Head HR GCEL.
