A SUCCESSFUL INTERNATIONAL DAYOn Tuesday, March 27 our students and staff spent the morning learning about different cultures fromround the world. Groups of students from each grade level performed dances and made presentationsepresenting six continents: Kindergarten Asia; 1st Grade North America; 2nd Grade Europe; 3rdrade Austrailia; 4th Grade South America; 5th Grade Africa. Parent volunteer choreographers taught

he dances and made the very elaborate costumes for the children. Classes traveled from booth to booth, utside the classrooms, where they learned about the different countries, tasted some food, and examinedrtifacts. Volunteers gave presentations inside classrooms about different cultures. It was an amazing event!

want to extend a heart-felt thank you to Garden Gate Parent, Mahalakshmi Rameshbabu for organizing what was likelyarden Gates best International Day yet! She successfully organized choreographers for student performances, volunteers

or educational booths, and presenters for informative presentations. Students, staff, and parents all appreciate your effortsMaha! Thank you to everyone who supported this wonderful Garden Gate tradition.

ATTENDANCE LETTERSLast week, attendance letters were mailed home reporting excessive delays, tardies, and unexcusedabsences. The letter states that students should be in their seat learning when school begins promptlyat 8 a.m. (PM Kindergarten students arrive at 9:55 a.m. and on Tuesdays - 9:35 a.m.). Compulsoryschool attendance laws of the State of California require both punctual and regular attendance on thepart of all children. Irregular school attendance is a definite loss to the individual child.

you received a letter or letters, please refer to the Cupertino Union School District Opening Day Packet, page 5. Please

make every effort to bring your child to school and to be in class on time so that further action does not become necessary.ate arrivals are to report to the office for a late slip. A daily record is kept for each child. A delay is recorded if a child is up to9 minutes late, and a tardy is recorded for arrivals to school 30 minutes or later. If your child is not at school, you are requiredo report the absence to the school. We have a 24-hour absence line available for this purpose. Please report absences each

morning that your child is absent before 8:30 a.m. by calling 408-252-5414, extension 6. Include the students name (pleasepell the last name), room number, your relationship to the child, the reason for the absence, and if the child is ill please includeheir symptoms. If you do not call, the absence will be considered unexcused.

lease note that absences due to vacation are not regarded as a valid excuse. Only personal illness, medical appointments, tate recognized religious holidays or attendance at a funeral service are acceptable excuses. A doctors note for absencesver 7 accumulated illnesses is required for further absences to be coded as illness. Also, a doctors note for your childs

medical/dental appointment is necessary for the delay or tardy to be excused. Thank you for your attention in this matter!
