now to his temple draw near;join me in glad adoration!

Let God arise, let God’s enemies be scattered; let those who hate

God flee! As smoke is driven away, so drive them away; as wax melts before fire, let the wicked perish

before God! But let the righteous be joyful; let them exult before God;

let them be jubilant with joy!Sing to God, sing praises to God’s

In the holy habitation, God is father of orphans and protector of widows.

God gives the desolate a home to dwell in, but the rebellious dwell in a parched land. O God, when you

went forth before your people, when you marched through the

wilderness, the earth quaked, the heavens poured down water, at the presence of God, the God of Sinai,at the presence of God, the God of Israel. Rain in abundance, O God,

you shed abroad; you restored your heritage as it languished; your

flock found a dwelling in it; in your goodness, O God, you provided

for the needy.

Sing to God, O kingdoms of the earth; sing praises to the Lord.

O Rider in the heavens, the ancient heavens; God’s voice goes forth, a mighty voice. Ascribe power to

God, whose majesty is over Israel, and whose power is in the skies.

Wondrous is God in the sanctuary, the God of Israel, who gives power

and strength to the people.

Praise to the Lord! O let all thatis in me adore him! All that hath life and breath, come now with

praises before him! Let the amen sound

from his people again; gladly forever adore him.

Hymn of Praise to the Triune GodCrown Him with Many Crowns

UMH 327

Crown him with many crowns, the Lamb upon his throne. Hark! how the heavenly anthem drowns all

music but its own. Awake, my soul, and sing of him who died for thee, and hail him as thy matchless King

through all eternity.

Crown him the Lord of life, who triumphed o’er the grave, and rose victorious in the strife for those he came to save. His glories now we sing, who died, and rose on high,

who died, eternal life to bring, and lives that death may die.

Crown him the Lord of peace, whose power a scepter sways from pole to pole, that wars may cease, and all be prayer and praise. His

reign shall know no end, and round his pierced feet fair flowers

of paradise extend their fragrance ever sweet.

Crown him the Lord of love;

behold his hands and side, those wounds, yet visible above, in beauty glorified. All hail, Redeemer, hail!

For thou hast died for me; thy praise and glory shall not fail

throughout eternity.

Opening Prayer

The Lord be with you. And also with you.

Let us pray.O God, the King of glory,

you have exalted your only Son Jesus Christwith great triumph to your

kingdom in heaven.Do not leave us comfortless, but send your Holy Spirit to

strengthen us,and exalt us to that place where

our Savior Christ has gone before;who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, in glory

everlasting. Amen.

FORMEDScripture Lesson

Acts 1:6-14 (CEB)

As a result, those who had gathered together asked Jesus, “Lord, are

you going to restore the kingdom to Israel now?” Jesus replied, “It isn’t for you to know the times or seasons that the Father has set by

his own authority. Rather, you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” After Jesus said

these things, as they were watching, he was lifted up and a cloud took

him out of their sight. While he was

going away and as they were staring toward heaven, suddenly two men in white robes stood next to them.

They said, “Galileans, why are you standing here, looking toward heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way that you saw him

go into heaven.” Then they returned to Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives, which is near Jerusalem —a sabbath day’s journey away.

When they entered the city, they went to the upstairs room where they were staying. Peter,

John, James, and Andrew; Philip and Thomas; Bartholomew and Matthew; James, Alphaeus’ son;

Simon the zealot; and Judas, James’ son— all were united in their

devotion to prayer, along with some women, including Mary the mother

of Jesus, and his brothers.

Gospel Lesson John 17:1-11 (CEB)

When Jesus finished saying these things, he looked up to heaven and said, “Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, so that the Son

can glorify you. You gave him authority over everyone so that he could give eternal life to everyone you gave him. This is eternal life:

to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you sent. I have glorified you on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do. Now, Father, glorify me in your presence

with the glory I shared with you before the world was created.“I have revealed your name to

the people you gave me from this world. They were yours and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word. Now they know

that everything you have given me comes from you. This is because I gave them the words that you gave me, and they received them. They truly understood that I came from

you, and they believed that you sent me. “I’m praying for them. I’m

not praying for the world but for those you gave me, because they

are yours. Everything that is mine is yours and everything that is yours is mine; I have been glorified in them. I’m no longer in the world, but they are in the world, even as I’m coming

to you. Holy Father, watch over them in your name, the name you gave me, that they will be one just

as we are one.

Sending HymnChrist is Alive

UMH 318 (stanzas 1, 3, 5)

Christ is alive! Let Christians sing. His cross stands empty to the sky. Let streets and homes with praises

ring. His love in death shall never die.

Not throned afar, remotely high, untouched, unmoved by human

pains, but daily, in the midst of life, our Savior in the Godhead reigns.

Christ is alive, and comes to bring

good news to this and every age, till earth and all creation ring with joy,

with justice, love, and praise.

All-Church Surprise Parade for High School SeniorsWednesday, May 27, 6:00-8:00 pm

Meet in the St. Paul’s 2nd Avenue parking lot at 6:00 pm. Cars will be organized and provided a parade “route” to drive by seniors’ homes in the Cedar Rapids metro area. Organizers will wear masks, and participants will stay in your car for the event. Se-niors will be told that they are to be outside their homes in their graduation gowns for a church photo opportunity, but it is a SURPRISE that the congregation will celebrate them by driving by, cheering, and honking horns! You are encouraged to decorate your car with signs congratulating seniors. These event is hosted by Youth Council, but we really want our youth to know that they are loved and supported by all ages of our congregation! Family and friends of seniors are also invited to join us. We hope that you’ll join us for this multi-generational, social-distancing opportunity to come together as a church family!
