GEARED UP FOR A NEW SEASON: The Riders begin their 15th Anniversary Season (16th season overall) tonight against the Tulsa Drillers. The 2017 Riders finished 60-80, 18.0 games back in the Texas League South Division. Through the franchise’s first 15 years, the club holds an all-time record of 1,089-1,007 (.520) and is seeking its first playoff berth since 2014. OPENING DAY HISTORY: Frisco is 8-7 in franchise history on Opening Day. This is the ninth time in 16 years that the Riders will open the season at home, going 4-4 in those contests. The Riders are just 1-4 in their last five “lid lifters” after winning seven of their first 10 openers. Frisco and Tulsa clash for the third time on Opening Day and the first time since 2004. Tulsa has won both meetings, including a 16-2 triumph in the RoughRiders inaugural game in 2003. TOP PROSPECTS CONVERGE IN FRISCO: Five MLB Pipeline Rangers top 30 prospects are part of the Riders Opening Day roster. #15: LHP Brett Martin #16: IF Yanio Perez #19: RHP Ariel Jurado #21: C Jose Trevino #28: C/IF Josh Morgan Four of the five listed above also made Baseball America’s Rangers top 30 prospects list: Martin (18), Morgan (22), Perez (23) and Trevino (28). Jurado is ranked 31st by the publication. IMPECCABLE BEHIND THE PLATE: Catcher Jose Trevino returns to the Riders after another stellar season behind the plate in 2017, highlighted by his second consecutive Rawlings Minor League Gold Glove Award. In 99 games behind the plate, Trevino made just three errors (.996 fld %), caught 41% of base stealers, picked off four runners and allowed just three passed balls. Trevino also earned the Rangers Minor League Defender of the Year Award for his efforts last season. The fifth-year pro was added to the Rangers 40-man roster this offseason. He is one of four 40-man players on the Riders roster, joining Eliezer Alvarez, Ariel Jurado and Brett Martin. MANY FAMILIAR FACES RETURN: 15 of the 25 players on the Opening Day roster played with the Riders for at least part of the 2017 season. By comparison, only eight returners were part of last year’s Opening Day roster. Additionally, manager Joe Mikulik, hitting coach Jason Hart, athletic trainer Jacob Newburn and strength & condi- tioning coach Wade Lamont are back from last year’s staff. ENJOYING AN EXTENDED WALK DOWN MEMORY LANE: Tonight marks the beginning of the Riders 15th Anniversary Season, presented by Mayfield Creamery. On Tuesday, the Riders celebrated the 15th Anniversary of the inaugural game in franchise history, played before a crowd of 10,685 at Dr Pepper/Seven Up Ballpark. Yesterday marked the 15th Anniversary of the first win in franchise history. The Riders will continue to honor the 15th Anniversary Season all year long, highlighted by the club’s 15th Anniversary Celebration Weekend August 3-5. Former players will be invited back and the team will pay tribute to some of the great moments in team history all weekend long. The club is also currently accepting fan votes for the 15th Anniversary Dream Team, highlighting 15 of the best players to ever wear a RoughRiders uniform.
