They stopped another streak of 2 losses with last night’s 5-2 victory. The doubleheader sweep at the hands of Tulsa on Friday which ended their long- est winning streak of the season at 6 games, which was preceded by an 8-game losing streak and that followed a 5-game winning streak. Got Gott Relief pitcher Trevor Gott joined the Travs bullpen last night after being included in the 6-player trade with the San Diego Padres on Friday. The Angels acquired Gott along with closer Huston Street for a package of prospects including former Travs pitcher R.J. Alvarez and 2nd baseman Taylor Lindsey. Welcome Back Micucci The Travelers are being managed by Mike Micucci during the series at Tulsa with Phillip Wellman on a 4-day vacation. All Angels minor league coaches take a 4-day vacation during the season so Miccuci, currently the Angels Minor League Field Coordinator, is back in a familiar role. Mike managed the 2012 Arkansas Travelers (62-78 overall, but 35-35 in 2nd half) in his first season with the Angels. Previ- ously he managed 4 years in the Texas Rangers organization including the 2009 season with the Frisco RoughRiders (72-68) Locking It Down The Arkansas Travelers bullpen has been a main strength of the club all year, but during the second half the relief corps has been especially good with a 2.82 ERA (98.2 ip/31 er) and 122 K’s against 43 walks. In last night’s 5-2 win the Travs bullpen combo of Buddy Boshers, Danny Reynolds and Cam Bedrosian struck out 10 batters in 4 innings. During the 6-game winning streak that ended Friday the pen allowed 1 run in 18 innings (0.50 ERA) and 15 hits while striking out 22. Doubleheader Dippity Doo The Travs played their 7th doubleheader of the 2014 season last night at ONEOK Field and 2nd double dip of the week. After being swept in 2 games by Tulsa, the Travs hold a 5-10 record in doubleheaders. The reason there are an odd number of games in that total is because the Travs and NW Arkansas Naturals were only able to play the first game of a scheduled doubleheader on June 8. Troutastic —In Tuesday’s Major League All-Star Game at Target Field in Minneapolis, Angels outfielder Mike Trout became the second former Travs player to win the All-Star Game MVP Award joining J.D. Drew (2008). Trout was 2-for-3 with a triple, double and 2 RBI including the game winning run knocked in. Trout starred in centerfield for the 2011 Travs. Relief pitcher Francisco Rodriguez (2002) and shortstop Erick Aybar (2005) were also named to All-Star Game. Rucinski’s Rise Right hander Drew Rucinski became the 5th Travs pitcher called straight to the Major Leagues last Tuesday, and made his ML debut allowing 2 runs in the 9th inning of a victory at Texas. He holds a 5-0 record with a 1.47 ERA in his last 7 starts and just 39 base hits allowed with 38 strikeouts and 2 walks. Rucinski fired the only 9-inning, complete-game shutout in the Texas League this year on June 14 against NW Arkansas to begin this streak. Undrafted out of Ohio State, Rucinski spent nearly 2 full seasons pitching for Rockford in the Frontier League before signing with the Angels last August. Roth’s Resuscitation Two months after being removed from the Angels 40-man roster and exposed to waivers, Michael Roth was selected to the 40-man roster again and called up to the Major League team where he pitched 2 innings on Saturday and earned the win in the Angels’ 11-5 win over Houston. Similarities in Roth’s call ups to LA in 2014 and 2013 are striking. Both years, Roth went up on a Saturday when the Travs were scheduled to play the RockHounds. Each year Roth pitched 2 innings the day he was called up against Houston and earned the win with Albert Pujols driving in the winning run. Homer Watch The Travs have a league-low 49 home runs, with 20 hit against Spring- field representing 41 percent of the team’s home run total. Pitchers have allowed the 2nd- fewest home runs this year (50). Opponents have no home runs in the last 7 games and just 6 long balls this month in 17 games. Roadwork The Travelers have found hitting and scoring on the road much easier than at Dickey-Stephens Park. In 49 road games they’re averaging 4.7 runs and hold a .275 team batting average, .392 OBP and 32 home runs. In 50 home games they’re averaging just 2.8 runs a game with a .211 batting average, 17 home runs and .295 OBP. They’ve also been shutout 11 times at home. June’s Awards The Travelers named Brian Hernandez as the Travs’ batter and fielder of the month of June. He tied for the team lead with a .311 batting average and 13 RBI while committing just 2 errors in the field. Arkansas Travelers Baseball Inc. ♦ Dickey-Stephens Park ♦ 400 W. DREW RUCINSKI—25 year old right hander is making his 19th appearance in 2014, 46th career affiliated Minor League appearance.

In his last 7 starts, Rucinski is 5-0 with a 1.47 ERA (8 er/49 ip). Batters are hit-ting .224 against Drew and he’s thrown 425 strikes out of 622 (68 %) pitches.

Drew comes off his second CG of the season in Tuesday’s doubleheader opening 6-2 victory over Springfield. He set down the first 9 Cards batters and had a 6-0 lead before allowing 4 straight base hits in the 4th inning. He left runners in scoring position in the 5th and 6th innings, but got out of the 6th with a double play.

Drew comes off his first Major League appearance on Thursday in Arlington finish-ing the Angels’ 15-6 victory over the Texas Rangers. He was scheduled to start that day for the Travs at Tulsa, but was selected to the Angels’ 40-man roster .

Drew fired the first complete-game shutout of his career June 7 in a 3-0 victory over NW Arkansas at Dickey-Stephens Park. It was the first 9-inning, CG in the Texas League this year and the first for the Travs since Matt Shoemaker in July 2011. He retired 23 of the last 25 batters for a 3-0 win over Sam Selman.

Acquired by Angels as a MiLB Free Agent on August 8, 2013 after pitching most of

2013 and all of 2012 with the Rockford Riverhawks of the independent Frontier League.

CHAMPIONSHIP CLINCHER—Was the top pitcher for Inland Empire during the Angels’ single-A club’s run to the 2013 California League championship with a 3-0 record and 2.79 ERA in 3 starts. Rucinski got the start and the win in the 66ers Championship clincher allowing just 1 run in 6.22 innings against San Jose. FRONTIER MAN—Rucinski was undrafted out of Ohio State University and signed his first professional contract with Rockford in June 2011. After he made his pro debut in a 2-inning appearance, Rucinski signed with the Indians and spent the rest of that season in Cleveland’s organization. When Rucinski was released by Cleveland at 2012 Spring Training he signed with Rockford. AUTUMN BASEBALL—Made 6 starts for Surprise in 2013 Arizona Fall League. Held a 1-0 record and 3.43 ERA and .237 batting average allowed. BUCKEYE BONANZA—Pitched 4 seasons for the Ohio State Buckeyes making 84 appearances including 24 starts. Rucinski’s overall NCAA record was 22-13 with a 4.69 ERA. He enjoyed his best season as a senior going 5-3 with a 2.05 ERA and was named to the All-Big Ten Second Team

A veteran of 30 seasons in professional baseball, Travs manager Phillip Wellman is back in a familiar role as manager where he owns a 862-939 record in 15 minor league seasons, including eight years as a manager in the Southern League with the Mississippi Braves (2007-2010) and Chattanooga Lookouts (1999, 2001-2003).

Most recently Wellman was the hitting coach for the Springfield Cardinals from 2011 through 2013 and tutored Texas League Players of the Year (Matt Adams - 2011 and Oscar Taveras - 2012). Wellman, a native of Bulverde, Texas, managed the M-Braves to the 2008 Southern League Championship.

Wellman went into coaching in 1988 with the Atlanta Braves after the end of a 4-year playing career as an outfielder and infielder in the minors. He took his first managerial post in 1992 with the Gulf Coast Orioles and managed four years in Rookie-level affiliated baseball. His first full-season managing job came with Winston-Salem in 1996 in the Carolina League beginning his eight-year stint in the Cincinnati Reds farm system.
