suddenly they came, the mid-year padi rains,falling slanted among the dried lalangand into the branch-drains of the brown canals;the big regular drops falling at their own rhythmbecame the overwhelming sound of an insistent tempo. it woke up the child in the sarong cradleand the old resting father.water has come. he looked out into the sheet of raindescending along the atap eaves.the rivulets carried the flattened strawand the dust of the drought,in their dark grey flowing threadsslithering to the depressions in the ground. thin dry ducks quacked

splashed by the strange rainand chickens ran from under the trees. 

it was the beginning of an answer,pak usin’s dark skinned muscles quivered.rain slapped the leaves and bent the young coconuts,shook the drought of its death-dustand swept the remains of harvest rubbish. for this season they collected hopes again,carried them under cover from the heat to this day,the rain fell and wetted their praying throats.

First stanzasuddenly they came, the mid-year padi rains,falling slanted among the dried lalangand into the branch-drains of the brown canals;the big regular drops falling at their own rhythmbecame the overwhelming sound of an insistent tempo.  -The first stanza tells us that rain falls suddenly in

the middle of the year after a long draught period. The water came from the rain slides along the dried thatch. The sound produced from the raindrops fall created a unique melody.

it woke up the child in the sarong cradleand the old resting father.water has come. he looked out into the sheet of raindescending along the atap eaves.the rivulets carried the flattened strawand the dust of the drought,in their dark grey flowing threadsslithering to the depressions in the ground

-It woke up the child in the sarong cradle and the old resting father shows that the rain woke up everybody from young to old. The stanza also shows that the river is no more dry and it carried the flattened straw and the dust of drought.

thin dry ducks quackedsplashed by the strange rainand chickens ran from under the trees.

-This stanza gives us the illustration of how the chicken and ducks trying to get cover from the rain

- Rain slapped the leaves, bent the young coconut, shook the drought of its death-dust is personification and it means that the rain is heavy and thus ends the drought of the season.

- The fifth stanza shows that the rain have give them hope and protect them from the heat. Apart from this the stanza indicates that their prayer have been answer.

Theme Present the dependence of man on

nature for survival. Apart from that, these poems highlight the importance of nature to human beings, thus, it indicate the power of nature as source of living.

Moral value We must protect our natural

environment to make sure that the nature will give it’s benefit to us.

All of the creature around us plays an important roles in maintaining and balancing the ecosystem.

We must thank to god for all of is kindness that has been bestow to us.
