FUMC Edna Newsletter Jesus: “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have
trouble. But take heart [be courageous]! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)
Oh my, this has been such a strange time! We have indeed encountered trouble, uncertainty, fear, inconvenience, steeping learning curve, new technologies, and more. During Lent, we sought to grow closer to God, learned about what it means to be a disciple, as we journeyed with God. This past Lent has been unexpected journey; we have been given many opportunities to trust God.
As the disciples experienced Jesus coming to them in unexpected times and unexpected ways, so we too have been blessed by encounters of Jesus in new, unusual, unexpected times and ways. We have implemented new methods and strengthen/ revised previous ones to continue to be the church, even in this strange time! Christ is risen! Christ is risen indeed! Thanks be to God!
I have no idea what the future or even the summer holds, but I know Who holds the future! We are in good hands! Thanks be to God!
This great Easter season hymn or year around Resurrection hymn, “Because He Lives” UMH #364, has been coming to mind lately. The refrain is “Because He lives, I can face tomorrow; because He lives, all fear in gone; because I know He holds the future, and life is worth the living just because He lives.” *This reminds us of the hope, peace, promise, and more that Christ offers us! Take comfort and courage that, Christ is risen! Christ is risen indeed! Thanks be to God!
Let us not forget what we have learned, how we have deepened our trust of God, the importance of checking on our family, friends, and neighbors, and the significance of being the church. God still has work for us (First UMC Edna, you, and me) to do! The adventure continues, and God goes with us! Thanks be to God!
Grace & Peace,
Pastor Kelli

June: Helping Hands 324 E Main St., Edna, Texas 77957 (361) 782-7543 “Helping Hands has been in [assistance] business for years, doling out food, clothes, gasoline vouchers, and financial help with things like utility bills and doctor and dentist visits, but without funding and donations, they are forced to turn people away. The charity accepts monetary donations in the form of cash and checks, and also takes donations of good, usable furniture, clothing, shoes, nonperishable food items, and other lightly used items. Helping Hands, unlike some other charities, sits and meets with those asking for help, and handles things on a case by case basis. They evaluate income, including food stamps, HUD assistance, and child support, and then help with necessities as they can.” (Jackson County Herald-Tribune)
