Most full-time courses are held at Deeside

Colleges main campus in Connahs Quay,

    unless otherwise stated.

All courses listed take one to two years to

    complete (approximately 30 - 35 weeks per

year), with a 1 week induction at the start of

the course. Courses are usually held across 3-4

    days during the week.

You will be expected to study independently on

course work and assignments in your own time, but

these can be organised to fit in around the other

commitments you have in your life.

Progression to the next level of qualification for all courses

is dependent upon attendance and behaviour over the year as

well as successful achievement of the qualifications required.

Courses will run subject to minimumnumbers.

    Course interviews

You will be invited to attend an informal interview with the

course tutor. The tutor will explain what the course involves

and the entry requirements. For some courses, you may also

need to complete some short tests or exercises relevant to

    the course.

During your interview, you will be expected to show your

interest and commitment to the course / career route. You

will be asked to explain why you want to join the course.

You may wish to bring along relevant evidence of any work

experience or voluntary or project work you have done, to

    show the tutors.

Can I appeal if I dont get on a course? If you are unsuccessful in your application, you may appeal.

The appeal should be made in writing to the Head of Faculty

of the area which you have applied to, stating the reasons for

the appeal. The Head of Faculty will consider the appeal and

write to you with the outcome of the appeal.

Please note: applicants cannot appeal if they have not been

offered a place because the course is full or it is has beencancelled.

The address to write to for appeals is:

The Head of Faculty for (Please state the department)

Or fax it to: 01244 814305

    Criminal Records Bureau (CRB)

    Disclosure

On certain courses, you will need to complete a Criminal

Records Bureau (CRB) disclosure. These include courses

where there is regular, unsupervised contact with children orvulnerable adults.

If you do have a criminal record, you may still gain a place on

the course, it depends on the nature and background of any

offence. If you would like to discuss this issue in confidence,

please contact our Student Services Advisers on 01244

834511, or call in to speak to them in person.

There are other circumstances where having a criminal

record may affect your study. Courses such as Public

Services, where your career would be in the uniformed

services, fall into this category. If you have a criminal record,

you may be eligible to attend the course, but once

completed, your career options in t he public services would

be limited as a direct result of the offence committed. You

are not required to complete a CRB check to attend this

type of course, but you may wish to speak with a Student

Services Adviser about whether your criminal record couldlimit your career options.
