Fall is for Fitness!Here is a simple way to get and stay FIT!

Drop-in to the Carbondale Recreation and Community Center and pay a day fee, get a 20 punch pass that is good for three years, or purchase a 1 month , 3 month or yearly membership.

Did you know these classes are included in your membership, daily drop-in fee or a swipe of your punch card!

SilverSneakers ClassicHave fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement, and activity for daily living skills. Hand-held weights, elastic tub-ing with handles, and a ball are offered for resistance; and a chair is used for seated and standing support.

SilverSneakers YogaMoves the whole body through a complete series of seated and standing poses. Chair support is offered to safely perform a variety of postures designed to increase fl exibility, balance and range of movement. Restorative breathing exercises and fi nal relaxation will promote stress reduction and mental clarity.

Integrative StretchingSynthesizes contemporary schools of somatic body work such as Alexander & Feldenkrais tech-niques, Kinetic Awareness, Edu-K, polarity balancing and Farteniff’s approach to time, space and energy. We gently realign the body, strengthen the core and increase range of motion through conscious movement and breathing.

Hatha Yoga Classes will increase your range of motion, facilitate relaxation and release tension through focusing on posture, alignment and breathing. An excellent way to relax and de-stress. For all fi tness levels!

Core Cardio Great Combo workout starting with 30 minutes of cardio followed by 30 minutes of total body sculpting using the Pilates method that restores muscular balance while strengthening and stretching the body focusing on ones abs and back.

Zumba This is a fun high energy dance class that combines unique moves to increase strength, cardio-vascular endurance, and fl exibility. This class is a fusion of Latin, Jazz and Salsa music. Have fun and dance those calories away!

CPR & First Aid Class for the CommunityWould you like to be certifi ed to provide CPR & First Aid in case of an emergency? After completing this course, you will have the skills to do so. We teach an Ameri-can Red Cross – based class that covers CPR for Adults, Children, & Infants, as well as Standard First Aid and how to correctly use an AED in emergency situa-tions.

American Red Cross Baby-Sitting TrainingTaking care of young children is an important responsibility. The Red Cross Baby-sitter’s Training Course can help you learn what you need to know to be the best and most responsible babysitter you can be. Fall Climbing Wall ProgramsFacilitated Climbing Wall HoursStaffed Wall Sessions and Safety Orientations and Belay/Climb certifi cations available. Tuesday 5:30-7:30 pm Thursday 5:30- 7:30 pmClimbing Wall Safety Orientations: Bouldering, Auto Belay, Top Rope & Lead Certifi ca-tion. All climbers must undergo an initial Safety Orientation prior to accessing the wall. This orientation is a review of wall regulations and equipment, knot tying, belaying, rope man-agement skills, use of technical equipment and climbing commands. Active membership required or a daily entrance fee. Climbers must be certifi ed in one of two levels prior to using the wall.• Level One Certifi cation is the validation for using the climbing wall for bouldering,

auto-belay and top rope belaying. • Level Two Certifi cation is a specialized certifi cation to access our lead routes.

Start Smart SoccerThis is an organized introductory soccer program for the fi rst time player. Youth Basketball Fall/ Winter 2013Dinky DunkersThis is an introductory recreational basketball program for 1st and 2nd grade girls and boys. Participants will learn the fundamentals of pass-ing, dribbling, and shooting, as well as the rules of the game in a fun active environment.Ages: 1st and 2nd gradeDays: Monday/Wednesday (Girls), Tuesday/Thursday (Boys) Dates: November 4-December 5 ( NO classes the week of Thanksgiv-ing) Time: 3:30-4:30pm Cost: $45Location: Carbondale Recreation Center

Youth Basketball LeagueBasketball season is coming! Our leagues are designed to de-velop young boys and girls into fundamentally sound basketball players by teaching them basketball specifi c skills, teamwork, camaraderie, a strong work ethic, and more. We offer separate male and female leagues for both 3rd/4th graders & 5th/6th graders. Teams will practice once or twice each week with one or two games per week as well (practices are an hour to an hour and a half). The season will culminate with a tournament. All participants will receive a shirt with their own number on the back. All teams are fi rst come, fi rst serve. Once a team fi lls we will add a second team. Max of two teams per gender/age group.

**Once we get 10 players, one team will be full. Then, we will start fi lling an additional team. If there is not a minimum of 8

players signed up on the additional team, then those participants will not be able to play.

Fall Adult Volleyball LeagueBump, set, and spike your way into our 4 on 4 Fall Volleyball League! This league is fast-paced and action-packed, offering nothing but a great time to those involved. The league will consist of regular season play, followed by a single-elimination or double-elimination tournament (de-pending on how many teams register) to determine the league champion. In addition, the league is self-offi ciated with teams making their own calls.

HOLIDAY PROGRAMSLetters to SantaHo Ho Ho! If you have been a good little boy or girl, let Santa know what you would like for Christmas. Write a letter or draw a picture and address it to Santa at the North Pole. Drop it off at Santa’s mailbox at the Carbondale Recreation and Community Center from December 1 – December 17. The letters will then be delivered to Santa at the North Pole. Make sure to sign your name and address so Santa can write back.

Crafts with SantaCome get crafty with Santa Claus! We will make Christmas ornaments, decorate Christmas cookies, and design Christmas cards! We will provide the supplies, you bring your imagination and Christmas spirit! We will also set up the bounce house and open the gym for activities! Light Up CarbondaleThe Town of Carbondale Recreation Department along with Carbondale Council on Arts and Humanities invites everyone to light up Carbondale and welcome Santa. The lights on all of the trees lining Main Street will come on when Santa reaches the 4th Street Plaza. Celtic FestSláinte! Music and mugs available beginning at 5:00 pm Friday night, October 4. Jig on by the 4th Street Plaza to check out the fun.

OktoberfestWillkommen! Time to dust off last year’s stein and fi ll it full with this year’s beer. Oktoberfest kicks off at 11:00 am Saturday, October 5, and promises to be a day full of fun with German bands, food, and beer. Half and full-liter steins available while supplies last—get yours before it’s gone! Test your merit at the Liter Holding Contest or Nail Driving Contest. Dance the Hokey Pokey or the Chicken Dance, and round out the evening with live music from local bands. Located at the 4th Street Plaza.

4th St. Plaza Park Rink A downtown ice rink will be available for family skating this winter at the corner of 4th St. and Main St. in downtown Carbondale. This rink will be open from 12 noon to 9 PM daily, ice permitting. The season will be short so make sure you don’t miss it.... come skating. Go to our website or facebook page for updated ice information. FYI-No stick sports are allowed on this sheet of ice. Hockey and Broomball must take place at the Gus Darien Ice Rink. There is a se-lection of ice skates for rent for $3/day or $10/for 3 days (must visit the CRCC at 567 Colorado Ave., only 2 blocks away for rentals).

Family Skate EventCommunity Skate PartyCome on down to the 4th Street Plaza Ice Rink on January’s First Friday for a free Community Party. We will have a fi re pit, roast hot dogs and marshmallows, and drink hot chocolate. Ice skate rentals will be avail-able at the Rec Center until 9 pm. Gus Darien Ice RinkWe will be operating the large ice rink located on County Road 100, the home of the summer rodeo. Ice skate rentals are available to rent at the CRCC in downtown Carbondale. We have fl ood lights to illuminate the ice until 9 pm. The ice rink is reserved Wednesday and Friday nights from 6:00-10:00 pm for the Carbondale Broomball League and reserved 4:00 -7:00 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays during January and February for Youth Hockey classes.

Ice Rink RentalsThe Gus Darien Ice Rink is available for private rentals—schedule a birthday party, holiday party, or just hockey time. Please call 970-510-1278 for more information, including available times and dates, rates, and other details.

Pick up HockeyPick up hockey is allowed at the Gus Darien Ice Rink on a fi rst come fi rst serve basis unless there is a Town Recreation Program scheduled. Please respect other skaters and adjust the goal setup to accommodate other rink users. Pick up hockey is not allowed to supersede other uses except dur-ing the following times: Tuesday, Thursday, & Sunday 7:30-9:00 pm.

Introduction to Ice Hockey for KidsThis is an introductory program for ice hockey for boys and girls. These lessons are for those who have some skat-ing skills with little or no hockey skills. Participants will develop their skills and learn the basics of the game in a recreational environment. Carbondale Broomball LeagueThe Recreation Department will continue its very popular adult broomball league for ages 18 and up. Broomball sticks are provided. Come have a laugh, get a good workout, or sit by the

fi re and cheer on the teams. Helmets are REQUIRED & HEAVILY ENFORCED. People not wearing helmets will not be allowed to play. Kneepads, elbow pads, and/or wristguards are highly recommended, as are helmets with full face masks for the goalies.
