No local pollutant emissions No noise Vibrations are almost zero Indoor environment and narrow aisles Low time and cost for maintenance and repair
Advantages on fossil fueled forklifts
Time savings for refuelling instead of battery replacement
No power loss during the shift No battery damage during low temperature
operations Reduced space requirements by removing
charging room Low time and cost for maintenance Reduction of peak demand (electricity load
profile)
Advantages on battery powered forklifts
No local emissions 3 minutes for refuelling Full power for an entire shift Good performance in cold
environments Possible indoor operation No noise and vibration Easy to maintain and repair 8-10 years life time
Fuel cell forklifts
ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS TIME SAVINGS SPACE SAVINGS HIGH RELIABILITY PRODUCTIVITY GAINS LOWER OPEX LOWER LOGISTIC COSTS ENVIRONMENT VERSATILE

PROJECT AIM: Plan and ensure supported market deployment of FCMHVs beyond 2018
PROJECT SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:
1. Deploy more than 200 units of fuel cell powered materials handling vehicles and associated refuelling infrastructure in 2 relevant sites in Europe, thus realizing the largest fleet deployment of hydrogen fuelled industrial trucks in Europe
2. Demonstrate the maturity of the hydrogen infrastructure as well as the safety of the use of hydrogen in industrial environment.
3. Validate the Total Cost of Ownership and the path towards commercial targets.
4. Provide a best practice guide for hydrogen refuelling stations to build, install and operate them in industrial context.
5. Disseminate the project results targeting early adopters of hydrogen solutions, policy makers, industry stakeholders and the general
public in order to create a network to support European industry.

Solution very easy to use for the workers
No major disturbance of the operations because of the use of hydrogen fuel cells forklifts
Reliability of the technology with 100% availability of the fuel cell thanks to the technician working on site for fuel cell maintenance.
The use of such an innovative technology is still motivating for all the workers
Prelocentre feedbacks after > 16 months of operation

Conclusions
14
The positive economic impact of the deployment doesn’t not make sense everywhere, but mostly for large fleets, multi-shift operation, shared infrastructure.
Battery replacement can makes sense in special environment, however potential environmental impact and LCA should be investigated.
Full-service packages with attractive TCO (including H2 supply!) engages end users
European manufacturers are not as far as North American ones
Financial support is still required in Europe. The transition from demo projects to full commercialization of the products still needs to be pushed forward, but there are already signals of developments
Networking of the European key players is necessary to create the lobby.
