Bulletin Announcement Live Stations of the Cross

All Religious Education and Youth Group students who are in the 8th grade or in high school are strongly encouraged to be part of the Live Station of the Cross taking place at 6:00 pm on March 16th and 23rd. During Lent we strive to learn more about and get closer to our Catholic Faith, so this is an excellent opportunity for our youth to increase their understanding of the suffering Jesus Christ endured for our sins. Our next practice will be at Moreno Hall on Wednesday, March 14th at 6:00 pm.

First Communion Parents of First Communion Students we need your children’s Birth and Baptismal Certificates as soon as possible and do not forget about our First Communion retreat at Duranes on April 14.

Fourth Sunday of Lent Saying, Doing, or Being? St. Paul tells us in his letter to the Ephesians that we are saved through grace: God's actions of sending his Son to die for us, and raising Jesus from the dead show the love God has for us. It comes entirely from God. We are saved by our faith in Jesus, but even that faith comes from God. So when Paul says that no one can boast about being saved, he means that we can't add up our good deeds like reward points for heaven. He also means that we can't brag about our faith because we can recite the creed or an-swer an altar call. So if being saved is not a matter of saying the right things, or doing good deeds, what is it? The answer comes from the gospel. Jesus tells us that he will be lifted up, or crucified, so that we can believe in him and have eternal life. Notice he doesn't give a list of facts about God that we are required to believe. When we "believe in" someone, we put our love and trust in that person. We want to be with that person as much as we can. We know that we are loved and so respond by giving love. Our response of love is not just a happy feeling. It inspires us to stop being selfish and start noticing that others need our help. Jesus describes it as living in the light: we are not ashamed to help someone, forgive someone, or comfort someone. While we do not force our faith on others, we don't hide it either. Our life is in the light, open to anyone who wants to see what God has done for us. That brings us back to the question about salvation: it is not something we do or say. It is what God does for us. Our re-sponse of faith is also his gift. So when we recognize all that God has done for us and believe in his Son Jesus, the Spirit will guide us to live that faith and share it with others.

Until Further Notice DUE TO THE SEVERE COLD

AND FLU SEASON: We will not be offering the Most Precious Blood of

Jesus Christ during Holy Communion.

Also, the Archdiocese of Santa Fe Officials have asked us to refrain from the following:

1)Holding hands during the praying of the “Our father.” 1)Shaking hands during the sign of peace; a simple

nod and smile will suffice for now. 2)Shaking hands before or, after Mass. 3)If you are ill, PLEASE stay home, get rest and

know your obligation for the week has been met. 4)Please wash your hands, use the disinfecting wipes

and disinfecting spray. Finally, please do not be offended if folks

adhere strictly to these suggested guidelines. Thank you for your understanding and

cooperation. Fr. Andy Pavlak, Pastor

DO YOU WANT TO FAST THIS LENT?

In the words of Pope Francis

• Fast from hurting words and say kind words. • Fast from sadness and be filled with gratitude. • Fast from anger and be filled with patience. • Fast from pessimism and be filled with hope. • Fast from worries and have trust in God. • Fast from complaints and contemplate simplicity. • Fast from pressures and be prayerful. • Fast from bitterness and fill your hearts with joy. • Fast from selfishness and be compassionate to

others. • Fast from grudges and be reconcilied. • Fast from words and be silent so you can listen.

Please join us for the San José de Los Duranes Fiestas

Fourth Sunday of Lent Today is the fourth Sunday of our Lenten preparation. The first reading is a bleak reminder of our sinfulness, our deafness to those who warn us, and the consequences of our continuing arrogance and destructiveness. The psalm tells us what it is like to be separated from the love of God. We weep and we remember. Ephesians offers us hope. God is merciful even though our sins have destroyed our lives. God saves us, not because of who we are but because of who God is. God's love raises us up from our sinful despair. John reminds us that although we deserve condemnation because of our repeated sinfulness, God so loved the world that God did what Abraham was asked to do. God sacrificed Jesus, the beloved Son, that we might be saved. COME TO THE LIGHT If our works cannot save us, then why are we doing all this hard work and sacrifice during Lent? Traditionally we were asked to give up something during Lent so that we might experience the loss and deprivation that the Old Testament talks about when we are estranged from God. More recently we have been asked to do something affirmative, to add something good to our lives instead of taking something bad away. Either way works because both are just means of waking us up to the way we live our lives, sometimes thoughtlessly indulgent, sometimes indifferent, but all too often isolated from what is at the center of God's life, i.e., love and sacrifice. Lent is a chance to live our lives as Jesus lived his. Jesus lived in the light of love, truth, and sacrifice. Lent is a chance to find that light in our own lives.
