Cross Country

Congratulations to all student who participated in this event on Wednesday morning. Some close finishes and great

individual efforts on the day! We have 13 students whose times have made them eligible to enter the District Cross Country.

Notes will be going home to these students today and these students’ families have already been contacted by the school.

Thank you to all staff for their efforts in ensuring we had another smooth-running, athletic event.

Students may be withdrawn from NAPLAN by their parent or carer. This is a matter for consideration by parents and

carers in consultation with the principal. If, after consultation, you decide to withdraw your child, you must sign a Student

Under 8s Day

The morning of Thursday 20 May will see RISS celebrate Under 8s Day. The theme this year is all about outdoor

play. We have started our planning for this event and information will be sent out regularly, so keep you eye out for Class

Dojo and newsletter updates. Our KindyLinQ families will also be joining in the fun.

In the event that we don’t have sunny weather, on this morning, we have also planned for wet weather, so our Under 8s Day,

can still continue.

Prep Playground renewal

Our Prep playground has been identified for a renewal of some equipment and areas, with a proposed start and finish date over the June July holidays.

Australian Early Development Census (AEDC)

Conducted every 3 years, the Australian Early Development Census (AEDC) is the most comprehensive collection of its kind in the world. The information gained from the census helps to shape the future and wellbeing of our children by providing evidence to support education, health and community policy and planning.

The fifth AEDC data collection will take place from 4 May to 25 June 2021.

Previous AEDC national, state and community level data is available to access from the AEDC website .

The AEDC measures how children are developing as they transition into their first year of school based on 5 key areas known as domains.

The 5 AEDC domains are:

physical health and wellbeing

social competence

emotional maturity

language and cognitive skills (school-based)

communication skills and general knowledge.

Each rectangular tile represents one of the 5 AEDC domains of child development: physical health and wellbeing, social competence, emotional maturity, language and cognitive skills (school-based) and communication skills and general knowledge.

Prep students attending school in Australia will participate in this collection. We will use the data to assist with future planning to support students in our school and our broader community.

2021 Queensland Engagement and Wellbeing Survey Later this term, students in will be asked to take part in the Queensland Engagement and Wellbeing (QEW) Survey.

We know that wellbeing and engagement are important parts of your child’s life at school. The department and your school are looking at ways to collect information on these important areas so we can support our students in the best way possible.

The QEW Survey is designed to measure how state school students view their wellbeing and engagement.

Results from this survey will tell us about students’ levels of wellbeing and engagement. This information will allow us to better support our students and meet their needs.

In 2021, the QEW Survey will take place between these dates:

Term 2

Monday 31 May to Friday 25 June, 2021

An information letter will be sent out to families closer to the time. If you have any questions, please contact the school.

IMPACT

IMPACT has finished for Year 3. Our Year 5 students only have 1 more consolidation week left. All the students enjoyed the program and I look forward to working with some of Year 2 and Year 4 students in Round 3 this year on the Math Solve It program.

School Captains visit to Brisbane, ANZAC Square

On Thursday the 22nd of April we went (mostly) by train to Anzac Square in Brisbane City. While there we saw the Shrine of Memories, which contained the Eternal Flame. There were a lot of students from all different schools around Queensland at Anzac square with us to commemorate Anzac Day. While there we saw the Governor of Queensland Paul De Jersey. A short while after the start of the ceremony, all the students were told to line up and lay their wreaths at the Eternal Flame. Once we laid our wreaths at the Eternal Flame we were instructed to sit back down, and we continued with the ceremony. Before we left Anzac square, we were able to take some pictures at the Eternal Flame. Unfortunately, Mrs. Cormack lost her phone, but it was found. We caught the train back from central station. We drove to Redland Bay, caught the ferry back and walked to school. Overall, we had a fantastic day, and we learnt a lot. By Summer and Kaydence
