From the Principal’s Desk
Dear Parents and Carers,
First of all, I would like to thank you for the ongoing support of your child’s learning this term. As reflected in the Semester 1 Reports sent home last Friday and the current Parent Teacher interviews, it has been a great privilege to read and hear about
student achievement and success. At Ringrose, we are committed to ensuring that every student achieves to their maximum potential. In recent weeks, we’ve been closely reviewing the progress of students in both Reading and Mathematics and we can see great growth across the school! We are very fortunate to have such wonderful and committed teachers who make a big difference in the education of all our students!
In recognition of the last week of school, the following reports centre around student achievement:
• Congratulations to our Spelling Bee winners, Anthony and Matthew who will represent our school at the next round of the competition next term. Good luck to you both!
• The Aboriginal Artwork by 5/6R in the office foyer celebrating NAIDOC Week. • Our SRC are busily finalising plans for playground projects they are leading next
term including the Regenerating the Cumberland Plains planting day, re-working the Buddy Bench Monitor roles, and organising the purchase of appropriate play items that can be used safely to further engage students in active play.
• Congratulations to both our Debating teams who came away with one win and one loss against Girraween PS. I’m very impressed with their improvement in debating skills over this past Semester. Well done!
Next term, we aim to restart the following activities in a Covid safe manner: • K-2 and Years 3-6 Assemblies in a fortnightly cycle. i.e. K-2 even weeks
commencing in Week 2 and Years 3-6 in odd weeks commencing Week 3. • Parent / Carer workshops in how we teach Reading across the school. Keep a
look out for information on these workshops next term.
A reminder that the last day for students this term is on Friday (25 June, 2021).
I would like to wish everyone a safe and restful break, ready to commence again in Term 3.
As all teachers will be involved in our Staff Development Day on the Monday of Term 3. The first day back for students in Term 3 is Tuesday 13 July, 2021. Warm Regards Mr Loughhead (Principal)

Dear Parents and Carers,
Term 2 has certainly flown by very quickly and what a term it has been! Our
students have been very busy this term with NAPLAN for Years 3 and 5, carnivals,
Life Education and NAIDOC Week celebrations as well as working hard to achieve
learning goals in class.
I am looking forward to Term 3 and continuing to watch our students grow and attain their learning
goals at school.
Education Week
Education Week is an annual celebration of NSW public education and the achievements of our
schools, students and education system.
This year Education Week will run from Monday 26 to Friday 30 July 2021 celebrating the theme
Lifelong learners.

to all families early next term.
Assemblies
We are very pleased to announce that our School Assemblies will resume Term 3 Week 2. Keeping in
line with COVID Guidelines we will be having separate K-2 and Years 3-6 assemblies on Fridays after
recess during Term 3 and after lunch during Term 4.
A note has been sent out earlier this week providing further information around the COVID measures
that will need to be in place to ensure everyone’s safety.
Lastly, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our teachers, students and families for the
wonderful term that we have had. Wishing everyone a safe and happy holiday.

Roy Ringrose has visited
5/6R this week!
Hi Ringrose! For the last visit of the term I was lucky enough to visit 5/6R. When I visited in Week 9 I got to watch the students participate in many different types of activities. I watched some boys and girls trialling for High Jump and Shot Put and I must admit there is some great talent at Ringrose Public School. On Wednesday I got to watch the Stage 3 Spelling Bee and I was amazed with all the students who made it into the final and their ability to sound out very difficult words.
On Friday we had some very special guests visit the school. Mrs Thurley and Miss Alavandi organised two indigenous people Fred and Chaydin Reid to help Ringrose Public School celebrate NAIDOC Week. 5/6R were able to learn more about Indigenous games from different places in Australia. The first game we played was Kalkadoon Kee’an from North Queensland. Our goal was to throw objects into hoops and targets. After we got some points and I saw some of the boys competitive sides, we played a game from the Kimberley area in Northern Territory named Gorri. When playing Gorri, students had to throw a tennis ball at a moving target and unfortunately on Friday the moving target was Chaydin. All of 5/6R and 5/6T were laughing and enjoying themselves. After playing the games we went back into class and we learned more about the NAIDOC Week theme ‘Heal Country’. We learned about what Country meant (it’s not just about a land on a map) and all the different aspects of how Country has changed over time and why we need to heal it. 5/6R concluded my visit on Monday in Week 10 with an art lesson. Students drew and painted a picture using common aboriginal symbols to create an image that had meaning and told a story. They listened to instructions and used appropriate colours to create wonderful art pieces. Our masterpieces are featured on the next page. I was happy I got to spend some time again with the Year 5 and Year 6 students. Roy Ringrose is signing off for another term and I can’t wait to visit more amazing classes next term. Roy Ringrose

Kindergarten STEM Day
This term, Kindergarten have been learning about materials and compared the materials of which
objects are made. They investigated the properties of each material and how these are appropriate or
inappropriate for particular purposes. Last Thursday, Kindergarten had an opportunity to use this
knowledge to design and build a waterproof structure for STEM Day. The objective of the lesson was to
keep their paper monster dry, and most students achieved this goal by using water-resistant materials
to protect their monster from getting wet. It sure was a messy day but students had lots of fun using
their creativity and had even more fun testing their project with the hose. Here are some photos of our
Kindergarten engineers!

NAIDOC Celebrations at Ringrose, 2021
Last week we enjoyed a visit by Aboriginal Educators Fred and Chaydin Reid. They shared with the
students about some aspects of their Kamilaroi culture. Fred shared some dream time stories with the
K-4 students. Perhaps they can re-tell them to you! Chaydin taught the Year 5 and 6 students some
indigenous games. We can now add these games to our sports activities. Then, the Burra Group
enjoyed a Yarn with Fred and Chaydin and checked out some deadly
aboriginal artifacts. It was a great morning!
Currently all the classes are reflecting on the 2021
Naidoc Theme of Heal Country! We are reading
beautuful and informative picture books about
different ‘country’ around Australia. Stage Three is
learning more about the Uluru Statement. Look out
for our whole school display about this learning next
term. It will be in the office hallway.
Mrs Thurley
Co-ordinating teacher.

Counsellor Update Ringrose Public School, School Psychologist, Annette Haggerty
Enjoying time with your child: ways to connect during holidays
Compiled by Your School Counsellor Annette Haggerty
Source: Raising Children Network
Now that school, teachers and friends are a big part of your child’s world, it can be hard to find time
to enjoy being together. But school holidays are a great opportunity to help build family relation-
ships, which are still the biggest influence on your child’s development.
Why enjoying special time together is important
When you and your child enjoy special time together, you can learn to see the world from your child’s
point of view. It’s a chance to find out more about your child’s likes and dislikes, her worries and her
frustrations. Spending time together is also a way of giving your child your full attention, sending the
message that he’s the most important thing to you. Walks or other activities with you are great
opportunities to guide your child in the ways of the world, talk to her, listen to her and enjoy being
together. It’s also a great opportunity for everyone to try to detox from social media.
Playing games and having fun with you can help your child feel happier, be more relaxed and build
resilience for the teenage years. That’s why it’s so important to lay the
groundwork now.
Setting aside some regular special time for the two of you can help your
child to handle the times when he doesn’t have your full attention, or the
times when you’re apart. In all these ways, sharing happy experiences helps
to build your relationship with your child.
Ideas for fun activities to do together
Daily activities
Sometimes you can make special time and have fun as part of your everyday family life by just adding a
little bit of fun and challenge:
• Cook your favourite dinner together or make a special after-school snack together.
• Take a walk to and from your local park, feed the birds or ducks or play on the swings
• Your school library often has activities holiday activities during the holidays or you can just bor-
row some books or magazines for daily or bedtime reading
• Take a train, bus, ferry or light rail trip to a new destination!
• Go shopping together and let your child help to make decisions, identify and practice counting
fruit and vegetables, pay for things and have conversations with shop assistants.
• During car trips, the non-driving parent can play games such as ‘I spy with my little eye, some-
thing that starts with (and say a letter of the alphabet)’ or ‘Who can see the next car with a num-
ber plate starting with “L” or has the colour yellow?’ and so on. You can also sing along together,
changing words to make the song silly or bring in the names of family members.

Play and games Here are ideas for more structured fun activities:
• Play word games and make up jokes and riddles together. You can start with jokes like ‘Knock
knock’ or ‘Why did the chicken, frog, cow (whatever makes you laugh) cross the road?’ Then get
your child to make up his own.
• Rough-and-tumble play can help your child learn how to be strong without hurting. It can also
help your child learn how to ‘wind down’ from a state of high excitement. But if you find it revs
your child up, try not to have rough-and-tumble play too close to bedtime.
• Play board games like ‘snakes and ladders’, dominoes and simple card games. These will help your
child to learn to play fair.
Outdoor activities Here are ideas for getting outside with your child: • Play outdoors together. It’s not only fun and good exercise, it can also help your child practise
skills and get better at things like climbing and catching.
• Lie on the grass and look for shapes or animals in the clouds.
• On a dark, clear night, go outside and look at the stars.
