From the President A Perfect Saturday
What a perfect Saturday it was As summer is supposed to be Oakwood was hot humid windy and full of people The day started early with Oakwood hosting a volleyball practice Members of Oakwood MN Naturists and Avatar were on hand with more than 25 players on both courts The great camaraderie of the players vying to improve their skills and the accompanying laughter is just the thing that Oakwood is known for
Along with volleyball plenty of horseshoe players were in search of a ringer and not to be left out the peacutetanque courts were also full of players
Finally the pool was available and full of members looking for a way to beat the heat and humidity As midday approached Paul (Cynthia) Missy (Byron) and Chris (Neil) were at the Woody to serve up lunch for all the hungry athletes and spectators Itrsquos this intertwining of everyonersquos favorite activity that makes our club such a great place to be
To add to the club members working together was Chuck and Maryrsquos deck move Not be be left out of the spring lot shuffle experience Chuck and Mary purchased a new camper and of course needs a new lot to go with it However they

also needed to have their deck moved to the new site The word was out - plenty of members were needed to help move the deck John (Deb) stopped by to survey the situation He felt the deck could be put on a trailer and moved with a golf cart About 15-20 folks showed up loaded the deck and moved it to itrsquos new home In less than 30 minutes the job was done and everyone was gone More proof that there is no ldquoIrdquo in team approach to getting the job done
Pool Replacement Pledges
At the spring membership meeting I put forth a request for pledges to replace the pool by next spring The intent was a litmus test on where members stood on getting this huge project done The deadline to respond with a pledge was last Saturday A total of $1100000 in pledges was received
I want to thank the members who made the pledges but this ldquotesting of the watersrdquo showed that the majority of members want to continue saving and replace the pool when we have the cash on hand
I know I had a couple comments that it would be nice to have plans available to see however contractors are not willing to draw up plans until wersquore ready to move forward

Campfires
Irsquove been told some members have been building campfires and leaving them blazing while they are off for an extended period of time doing other things Folks make sure that you always tend to your campfire On days like this past Saturday when there were high winds the camp fire can spread out of control and fully destroy our club
The last thing we need is to have the grounds full of people and an unattended campfire catching the surrounding woods on fire I remember when the Carlos Avery area caught fire about 10 years ago It started with a campfire near Forest Lake that wasnrsquot being watched I believe Oakwood lost two campers and the farm next to the club burned down
We must be extra careful when the wind is blowing and the temperatures are high It is a recipe for disaster
