THANKSGIVING IN NEW YORK! Spend 3 nights and 4 days in New York City (Nov. 23-Nov.26, 2011). PLUS: 4 tickets to Radio City Christmas Spectacular, Thanksgiving Dinner at Ginger’s, a $250 Gift Card to Carmine’s Restaurant, Breakfast each morning and a $200 Gas Card. Tickets $25 are available at the LeGras Parish Center. Only 1500 tickets will be sold. Drawing Nov. 1! Be sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit This coming Saturday, Auxiliary Bishop William Walterscheid will confer the Sacrament of Confirmation upon 151 young men and women from our parish. Their names are listed in today’s bulletin insert. Please keep them in your prayers at this significant moment of their faith formation as they approach the comple- tion of their Sacraments of Initiation. In the Gospel of John (14:16-17,25-26) Jesus makes a beautiful promise to send the Holy Spirit upon His disciples: “And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate to be with you always, the Spirit of truth, which the world cannot accept, because it neither sees nor knows it. But you know it, because it remains with you, and will be in you… I have told you this while I am with you. The Advocate, the Holy Spirit that the Father will send in my name He will teach you everything and remind you of all that I told you.” Further, entrusting them at the end of His earthly life with the great commission to proclaim the Gospel to all the nations, Jesus assures the disciples of the assistance of “power from on high” (see LK 24:49). As we know, it was on the day of Pentecost that these promises of our Lord were fulfilled when the Apos- tles received the gift of the Holy Spirit as they were gathered together with Mary in Jerusalem (see Acts 2:1 -41). Their reception of the Holy Spirit filled them with the wisdom, strength and courage necessary to ful- fill the mission entrusted to them earlier to go out and proclaim the Good News to all peoples. When the Sacrament of Confirmation is conferred next Saturday, our young men and women will receive the grace of the Holy Spirit a beautiful spiritual gift that will strengthen them in remaining faithful to Christ and the Church. Further, this grace will greatly assist them in fulfilling their baptismal call to share the truth of Jesus with others. Describing the effects of Confirmation, the Second Vatican Council posits that through this Sacrament the faithful “are more perfectly bound to the Church…and the Holy Spirit endows them with special strength so that they are more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith, both by word and deed, as true wit- nesses of Christ” (Lumen Gentium, 11). JOIN THE CHOIR! Our STL Choir rehearses on Thursday evenings at 7:00. Anyone of high school age or older is most welcome! CHILDRENS CHOIR rehearsals are Wednesdays at 6:10 in the Church , We are also looking for a parent who would like to help!
