Ellen Fagerburg, long-time Executive Director of Wesley Child Care Center passed away on March 17, 2020 after a courageous battle with cancer. Ellen spent over 35 years with Wesley Child Care Center; beginning as a parent, becoming a classroom teacher, then rising to Executive Director before retiring in 2013.

While Ellen was actively involved with several community organizations/efforts, she may have been best known for developing Wesley’s Scholarship Assistance Program, a program established to support families in need of tuition assistance. She worked tirelessly each year to raise the necessary funding to meet this increasing need. Many of these vital sources of funding remain today including Friends of Wesley.

Ellen will continue to be deeply missed by so many but her legacy will be remembered for how she selflessly made her community a better place.

    ELLEN FAGERBURG REMEMBERED

WESLEY CHILD CARE CENTER HONORS TEACHER FOR 30 YEARS

Wesley Child Care Center proudly honored the milestone anniversary of teacher, Linda Hoth. At Wesley Child Care Center’s October 21 virtual board meeting, Linda Hoth was recognized for thirty years of devoted service to students and families which began in August of 1990.

“For over three decades, our organization has benefited from her flexibility, reliability and unparalleled experience,” said Craig Solomon, Executive Director. Mrs. Hoth continues to provide students with quality care and learning support during these unprecedented times through Wesley’s collaboration with the Glenview Park District’s Camp REC program.

Linda has worked in virtually every Wesley program during her tenure; Kindergarten Enrichment, Before & After School, Summer Camp and Preschool. “Linda is the true definition of a dedicated teacher who has touched thousands of children’s lives,” said Jennifer Quintas, Multi-Site School School-Age Director. “She has helped children grow socially, emotionally, and educationally,” Jennifer added.

  • After months of remote learning filled with zoom circle times, teaching by video, at home lessons, drive by birthday wishes, virtual spring sings and a one of a kind graduation ceremony, the Preschool program reopened its doors for in person learning on July 6. The children have been truly amazing throughout this journey and we could not be prouder of each and every one of them!

Not skipping a single beat while abiding by all new protocols and programming guidelines, wearing masks is now second nature to the children. The preschoolers truly enjoy each day’s unique and exciting curriculum and sharing their time together with friends and teachers. Programming remains creative, safe and fun and weekly theme days are a huge hit for all! Bright eyes and laughter fill our rooms and the Preschool children, families and staff have all been so very gracious and grateful throughout these uniquely challenging times. We all enjoyed a wonderful summer together and have now continued on with a fabulously fun fall!

    PRESCHOOL PROCEEDS

While Wesley Camp Summer Dayz may have looked very different this year, the camp spirit was at an all-time high! The campers came in not knowing what to expect and quickly were once again full of life, laughter and joy experiencing a new sense of normalcy. The weather this summer was absolutely perfect allowing campers to spend the majority of their time outdoors.

Within each small camp POD, campers engaged in socially distanced art, sport and special-themed enrichment activities. Campers especially loved Spirit Days featuring Hollywood Day, Throwback 80’s Day and

Halloween/Reverse Trick or Treat Day. Camp concluded with a virtual family night that could be viewed safely by all! Parents expressed their overwhelming appreciation as to how well camp was run within the new safety protocols and how much fun their children had. It was truly a time that all campers, staff and families will always remember. Long lasting friendships and memories were once again made.

    SUMMER CAMP DAYZ SPIRIT

The Glenview Park District and Wesley Child Care Center have partnered together in response to the community need for quality school age child care during remote learning.

The Glenview Park District’s Camp REC (Recreation, Enrichment and Community) program was designed for self-directed e-learning and recreational activities including indoor/outdoor games, sports and arts/crafts located in pods throughout Glenview. Camp REC leaders coordinate the day’s activities around e-learning schedules and in-person schooling with the coordination of busing to and from pod/school for School District 34 students. Children are assigned to pods of 15 participants or less in a format that meets all health and safety guidelines.
