Our team performed brilliantly to be crowned the Overall Winners of the Human Powered Vehicle section for 2015, making it three victories in a row. The Overtakers did very well in the Design and Construction event scor- ing 23 out of a possible 25 points and winning this section. They also had a flawless presenta- tion scoring 23.5 out of 25. We took the cheq- uered flag in the14 hour race gaining the maxi- mum score of 50 points after having completed 369 laps or 409 kilometres. We were 4 ½ laps or 9 minutes ahead of Derinya in second place. The race finished at midday on Saturday and our team had a few nervous hours to wait before the presentation of awards at 3:30 that afternoon. Our team was rewarded with the Overall Win in the competition with a total score of 96.5 (3 points ahead of the second placed team). After the win, our team members were really excited when presented with their medals. Raine’s high- light was having the last ride after 14 hours of racing and having the honour of receiving the chequered flag on the finish line. Matt liked the fact that he could push himself to ride as many laps a possible, while Rosie, Aleisha and Te- nayah loved the excitement of racing and just cheering everyone on. I would like to thank Bronwyn Scheen for doing a fantastic job with the team to assist in all as- pects. Great job Bronny. We were lucky enough to also have the support of Adrian Purnell as our team mentor. Thanks also to Sam Smith for the hours of work she has put into the team. Sam looked after much of the organisation and all the little things that made our team so successful, as well as playing a vital part with the building pro- cess. Of course many of our parents made the effort to come to Maryborough to assist. Your support is extremely valuable so thank you for this as well. Our parents were the caterers, the expert masseuses, the timers and recorders, the cheer squad and the encouragement givers. I know for many of you this was a big sacrifice but I’m sure you will agree that it was worthwhile. Finally a huge thank you to our sponsors, and especially Autobarn for your contributions. I think the most important thing about the HPV event is to give it your best shot, if you can walk away from the event saying you did your best then that’s really all that matters. BUT everyone who went along will say that being successful and winning the overall and the race is a huge bonus. Well done Overtakers – A three-peat in 2015. Planning 2015 Our teachers are continuing their planning for 2016. A huge amount of work goes into making classes each year, and of course this year is no exception. Many hours are spent discussing differ- ent combinations and ensuring that our students are placed in the most appropriate classes. We are careful to ensure that every class has an even balance, this not only includes gender where pos- sible, but academic standards and social combina- tions are also considered. We are confident that once again our teachers are doing an excellent job with grade placements. On Tuesday 8 th December our students will be having an orientation morning in their new grade levels to help prepare them for the move next year. We believe this will be an effective way of alleviating any anxieties students may have. On this day the children will spend an hour in their new grade level but not necessarily with their new teacher. Our students will find out their grade placements on Monday 14 th December and will spend an hour with their new teacher discussing the year ahead. This will help students get to know their new teacher and with transition to their new class. Grade 3/4 Camp Phillip Island Congratulations to our Year 3 and 4 students who went to camp at Phillip Island last week and by all reports had a wonderful time. I heard stories of children overcoming their fears on the giant swing and learning new skills in several activities. I’m sure that all of our students would have been overflowing with exciting stories when they arrived back at Frankston on Friday afternoon. Students learn a great deal by participating in adventure activities outside the classroom but also learn many social skills while participating in school camps. The one thing that I asked them to do was to ensure that they looked after their teachers who are basically on duty 24 hours a day while on camp. It is a most tiring but extremely rewarding job. I would like to thank the 3/4 staff for the amaz- ing job you have done. I’m sure many parents would have already thanked you for your efforts. I also want to thank Dave MacGregor and Patrick Freeman, our parents who attended. We could not have run our camp without your assistance. CORY MACGREGOR RECEIVES

BARRELMAN AWARD FOR 2015 Last Tuesday one of our students, Cory MacGregor of Year 6 was presented with the ‘Barrelman Award for Enthusiasm’ by the Sea-ford Carrum Downs Rotary Club. Cory was one of eleven students recognised locally for his enthusiastic approach to everything he does. Cory and his family were invited to the presentation dinner along with Peter Mansell, Bronwyn Scheen and Morry Rubinstein who watched on proudly as he received his award. Congratulations Cory!

EARLY PICK UP We are requesting that parents do not pick up students in the last half hour of the day unless it is absolutely essential. These early pick-ups are a huge disruption to the office at a very busy time of the day as well as being a disruption to children’s learning. We have request-ed this many times before yet parents still insist on doing it and often we know it is to avoid the traffic congestion outside. The last half an hour of each day can be about a student completing an activity, learning a new skill, working with a partner, getting feedback on their performance or simply receiving instructions about the following day. It is for these reasons that we ask you for your support and respect the 3:30pm pick up time.
