Dear Parents & Caregivers,
The last month has seen the 2016 school year at Centralian Senior College draw to a most successful

At our Awards & Year 12 Presentation Evening and other recent events, many references were made and thanks
given to our extraordinary staff by students, parents and myself for their dedication and devotion in continuing to

them to keep in touch as they move into the next phase of their lives.

Another great learning & participation day for the Clontarf Academy which saw the morning start off with health checks followed up by a guest appearance from "No More Violence Campaign" staff - Roy Arbon and Stan Coombes. Both men are CAFL life members and have a strong history in community social development. They joined Catholic Care NT’s No More Campaign which has reached thousands of sporting people throughout Australia since its conception in 2006.They presented a great session around not tolerating any form of violent behaviour within the community and football arena. Year 10 progress lunch topped off an exciting morning. Well done fellas, very proud.

Students have been working on a mural for the back half of the house. For those who remember the Partridge Family, their bus theme has now become the focus. Students are spending time with local artist Alison Hittman developing their home community names and painting in their own design. Over time the wall will be filled with names from all those who have been involved with Alice Outcomes. Community and towns so far include Broome, Darwin, Tennant Creek, Melbourne, Katherine, Cairns and Caralulup. Alice Springs will feature on the door as they enter their class as this is where their "home" is for a while. Thanks to Marg and Nigel who have been most encouraging all through this ongoing project. Malcolm Solomano — Alice Outcomes

Adam Rettig, an Alice Outcomes student, was very excited to find out recently that he was Northern Territory's School of Distance Education Stage 2 Top Achiever in English Pathways. To his credit Adam returned to study after a break of over 15 years and completed a great year in not only English but also he topped his Mathematical Applications class and was granted an "A" grade in this subject.
With recognition of his prior studies in the workforce, and the successful completion of these 2 subjects, this has allowed him to apply for entry into the Defence Force as a Helicopter Pilot. We all wish Adam well with his future plans.

Often it takes a tragedy to seek a remedy. Such was the genesis of White Ribbon.
In 1989, on the afternoon of December 6, a student at the University of Montreal massacred 14 of his
female students. His actions traumatised a nation and brought the issue of violence against women to
the forefront of our collective consciousness.
In response, a group of men in Toronto decided to speak out and work to stop men’s violence against
women. In 1991 they initiated a male-led movement known as White Ribbon, with an annual awareness-
raising event (White Ribbon Day) held between 25 November and 6 December.
It is now an international effort in over 57 countries, of men and boys working to end violence against
women.
On Friday 25 November the Clontarf fellas joined the White Ribbon march in Alice Springs. It was a
proud moment to see these young men take part in the world’s largest movement of men and boys
working to end men’s violence against women.

From the School Counsellor:
As another amazing year at Centralian Senior College ends it is a good time to reflect on all the challenges and opportunities that have been available to our students. Adolescent moving into young adulthood can be a tricky time for young people and support from families, schools and wider contacts are particularly Important as students make choices and decisions regarding their post schooling lives. Keep the lines of communication open with your young person and remember listening is the key!
I will be on leave for the first half of 2017 and Taegen Pascoe will be filling the School Counsellor position. Remember if you are concerned about your young person you can phone Taegen from the beginning of the school year on 89585015.
Robyn Lindsdell - School Counsellor
Teaming up with the Institute for Aboriginal Development (IAD) in Term 4, Girls Academy students became involved in the Cultural Knowledge Transfer Project (CKTP), which saw young women reconnect to country and culture by working intensely with senior Arrernte Elders to become confident, resilient and proud of their culture, and more importantly themselves. The project involves a number camps that lead up to a dance performance.
Leading up to our first camp, nine Girls Academy Year 10, 11 and 12 students visited IAD and met with the elders once a week, where we painted beads and headbands, and listened to stories about family, country, language and culture.
We participated in a camp with a group of the local Arrernte female Elders at Corkwood Bore, 60km out of Alice Springs. On the first night, the girls prepared and cooked dinner over a fire, and sat around listening to the Elder’s stories. The girls learnt about respect for the country and joined the elders to introduce themselves to the land and ancestors.
The second day of the camp begun with an early rise, waking up at 5am, We travelled to a creek close to Yamba Station and prepared for lunch. The girls started a fire, singed kangaroo tails, wrapped them in foil and cooked them in hot coals along with damper. Waiting for the tails to cook, the girls listened to the stories of the land and learned how to make traditional ochre paint.
Camping under the stars, cooking on the fire and listening to stories were the main highlights of the camp. Both the girls and the Elders enjoyed one another’s company and really got a lot out of it. We are looking forward to the upcoming camps next year with our new and continuing students.

This exhibition features a rich assortment of themes and subjects which reflect the personal interests of each Visual Arts student. Portraits, the body and individual identity are always popular subjects as well as social issues such as the environment, nature and urban life. It is evident that today’s students are meaningfully engaged with the concerns of contemporary life and give expression to those concerns with technical skill, ingenuity and creativity. Viewing each work provides a unique opportunity to observe how young people view the world and how their art work can provide insights into their interpretation of it. And importantly, what comes across from the experience of the actual works is a respect and admiration for the artists' ability to engage with and represent challenging and complex ideas. We congratulate all students for the high standard of work and for those students selected for the Year 12 Exit Art 2017 Exhibition held annually in Darwin. Judith Coverdale - Art teacher
