The Welcome Centre of Ruhr-Universität is happy to present the programme „Events and Excursions“ for the winter semester 2011/2012. We regularly offer interesting activities dedicated to all international researchers, doctoral candidates, postdocs, guest lecturers, professors and their families. The programme shall help you to find out more about RUB, Bochum and the Ruhr district. During our events you have the possibility to network, exchange and meet other researchers.

CHRISTMAS RECEPTION OF THE RECTORATE

Meeting place this time: EuroEck, Spechtsweg 20
We start our day trip from Ruhr-Universität by travel bus
towards Essen. We visit Villa Hügel - the former house of the
industrialist family “Krupp”, as well as the photo exhibition
“Krupp-Photographs from Two Centuries”. After a vegetarian
lunch nearby the Baldeney Lake, we visit the UNESCO world
heritage Zeche Zollverein.
Meeting place: Entrance of the University Library, (return
about 06:30 p.m.)
SPECIAL PRICE: 19€ per person (all entrance fees, guided
tours in English, bus tour and lunch inclusive!)
We go to the Ruhrstadion by tram and take a walk passing the
Planetarium, the municipal park, the art museum and several
other central points in Bochum. We end our tour at the
Christmas market by enjoying a hot drink together.

The Rectorate and the Welcome Centre invite all guest
researchers, their families and their hosts from the faculties
to the Christmas reception at the International Lounge.

Events and Excursions
For international researchers and their families
Our programme includes a guided tour with a one-hour walk to
the points of interest on campus. We start with a panoramic
view from the roof of the IA-building over the university, we take
a walk on campus and finally have a coffee at the International
Lounge.

GUIDED TOUR ON THE RUB CAMPUS
Within the scope of international networking we organize a
“once a month” meeting for women to promote social and
cultural exchange and to help newcomers. The exchange is open
to all women with an international background and is held in
English and German.
The topics are very diverse, see current announcements online.
Children are always welcome.

information day regarding a research stay at Ruhr-Universität.
Here you will find all you need to know about the formalities,
authorities, new regulations and also useful tips for the stay in
Bochum. Our team will be happy to answer your questions.

BUS-TOUR IN BOCHUM
The Rector of Ruhr-Universität, Professor Dr. Elmar W. Weiler,
invites all international researchers to “Coffee with the Rector”.
Meeting place: International Lounge, "Mensa" building
We invite all international researchers, their families and hosts
from the faculties to clink glasses with us to the rearrangement of
the International Lounge. We would also like to inform you about
the developments of the Welcome Centre.

The guided bus tour to the points of interest in Bochum includes
attractions of industrial culture as well as places in the middle of
green surroundings, such as Kemnader Lake. At Haus Kemnade
we will have a rest for one hour enjoying some cake and coffee or
tea.

COFFEE WITH THE RECTOR
This evening we turn the International Lounge into a cinema.
Together we will choose a movie in English language from a
selection.

This evening we visit a music show at the Zeiss Planetarium
in Bochum. While sitting on comfortable armchairs, you can
watch into the starry sky and relax. The performance is
accompanied by Pink Floyd music.
Meeting place: In front of the Planetarium, Price: 3€
The Japanese Week takes place at Ruhr-Universität in the
week from November 21st to 25th. The Welcome Centre
participates with a “special edition” of the International
Women‘s Exchange: The event is supported by one of our
participants who is Japanese herself. The event is open to all
interested women who want to get to know a piece of
Japanese culture.
