FRAS 5 The new frontier for the evaluation of oxidative stress

OUR MISSION To be the refferring point of the oxidative stress measurement:

• d-ROMs fast test: measurement of free radicals.

• PAT test, SAT test: measurement of antioxidant potential:.

• OSI index it is easier and more immediate the interpretation of the results.

• OBRI index determines the status of the oxidative balance according to the cholesterol levels.

• OB Manager: interpretation of the results and oxidative diagnosis:

OXIDATIVE STRESS • In all living organisms there is a fragile balance between the

production and the elimination of free radicals through the activity of the antioxidant systems.

• The loss of this balance, indicated as oxidative stress, causes the start of cellular lesions.

• If these cellular lesions are severe and continue in time, the outcome will be an acceleration of the natural aging process and the onset of many diseases.

Oxidative stress

OXIDATIVE STRESS • It is obvious that it is already too late when you intervene on the

recognized pathology.

• The winning strategy is to intervene since the very beginning when the cellular damage originates, that is when oxidative stress starts to manifest and therefore it is measurable.

OXIDATIVE STRESS Everybody should take the “Oxidative Stress Global Evaluation” in

healthy conditions or if there is an exposition to pro-oxidation

elements (i.e. unhealthy life stile, environment pollution…) or if

there is some chronic pathology (i.e. diabetes, atherosclerosis,

dementia, rheumatic arthritis…) or if there the impelling necessity

to have some treatments (i.e. dialysis, by-pass, organ

transplantation, contraceptive pill, radiotherapy, chemotherapy…)

OXIDATIVE STRESS It is possible only through the Oxidative Stress Global Evaluation to optimize and monitor the real efficacy of antioxidant formulations, which too often are taken by the individuals without assessing the real necessity of it.

THE WINNING STRATEGY H&D makes it possible to intervene in this preventive direction,

making available to doctors and analysis laboratory the

FRAS 5 for measuring globally the

oxidative stress by means of two tests

on plasma (d-ROMs fast test, PAT test

and SAT test in saliva, OSI, OBRI).

FRAS 5 – Free Radical Analytical System

• FRAS 5 is the latest product by H&D and it is available to doctors and health operators allowing the Oxidative Stress Global Evaluation with the d-ROMs fast, PAT, SAT test tests and OSI and OBRI index.

• FRAS 5 is a dedicated photometer with inbuilt centrifuge allowing the operator to carry out the d-ROMs fast, PAT and SAT tests in a simple and self-guided way through the help of the messages appearing successively on the instrument display.

• FRAS 5 prints a ticket with the value and the date of the test.

d-ROMs fast test

• The d-ROMs fast test (patended) is the Evolution of the well-known d-ROMs test that increase the speed of execution only. In fact the execution time is halved and changes from 5 minutes to 2 minutes and 30 seconds.

• The d-ROMs fast measures the haematic concentration of ROM (Reactive Oxygen Metabolites) and it is precise, reliable and repeatable.

• The Italian CNR has confirmed that the results of d-ROMs test and the results of ESR test (Electron Spin Resonance) are, in fact interchangeable.

d-ROMs fast test • The results are expressed in U CARR, the unit of measurement of

Free Radicals and the only ones used by the international scientific community

• You need only a small blood sample from the fingertip, to perform a d-ROMs fast test.

• The normality range for d-ROMs fast test was obtained by examining 5.000 clinically healthy subjects and is between 250 and 300 U Carr.

• This means that healthy population has a value of d-ROMs, or normal level of free radical activity, between 250 and 300 U Carr.

d-ROMs fast test

d-ROMs test fast – Reference values

250 - 300 Normal Value

301 – 320 Border Line Value

321 – 340 Low Level of oxidative stress

341 – 400 Middle level of oxidative stress

401 – 500 High level of oxidative stress

> 500 Very high level of oxidative stress

Unit of measure: U. Carr 1 U. Carr = 0.08 mg H2O2/dl

PAT test Plasma Antioxidant Test

• The PAT test is a reliable, repeatable and precise test which allows to determine the haematic concentration of the anti-oxidant compounds in only 1 minute.

• PAT test is able to detect and to quantify in a specific manner the scavenger and antioxidant activities in a living organism.

PAT test Plasma Antioxidant Test

• You only need a small blood sample from the fingertop to perform a PAT test

• The normality value for the PAT test was obtained by examining a large population of healthy subject and is between 2.200 – 2.800 micro-mol/liters.

PAT test

PAT test – Reference values

> 2800 Very high value

2200 - 2800 Normal value

2200 – 2000 Border line values

2000 -1800 Slight deficiency status

< 1800 Deficiency status

Unit of measure: U. Cor 1 U. Cor = 1.4 µmol/L Vitamin C

SAT test Saliva Antioxidant Test

• The SAT test is a reliable, repeatable and precise test which allows to measure the the antioxidants in saliva in only 1 minute.

• SAT test is covered by international patents.

SAT test Saliva Antioxidant Test

• When the antioxidant capacity is poor, the oral cavity is not protected enough from the aggression of cariogenic and gram-negative bacteria that cause tooth decay and periodontal diseases.

• Knowing the antioxidant capacity of saliva is therefore useful in the prevention of caries and periodontitis.

SAT test

SAT test – Reference values

< 1000 Shortage of antioxidants

1000 - 1500 Optimal values of antioxidants

1500 – 2000 Normal values of antioxidants

2000 -2500 Border line

> 2500 Possible inflammatory processes

Unit of measure: mEq/L of Vitamin C of antioxidant - µMol/L

OSI INDEX – Oxidative Stress Index

• The OSI index (Oxidative Stress Index) sums up in a single value the information obtained from the d-ROMs test and the PAT test and makes easier and more immediate the interpretation of the results.

• The OSI index is a perfect starting point for the evaluation of the oxidative stress by the doctor and for an easier understanding from the patient

OSI INDEX – Oxidative Stress Index

The OSI index allows for a fast and certain evaluation of the improvement or worsening by therapies and sickness.

OSI Index – Reference values

< 40 Normal

41 – 65 Borderline: alert status, first symptoms of a possible failure

66 – 120 High: critical situation, failure in progress

> 121 Very high: very critical situation

OBRI INDEX – Oxidative Balance Risk Index

• The OBRI index (Oxidative Balance Risk Index) determines the status of the oxidative balance according to the cholesterol levels and is an important predictive index for the cardiovascular risk.

• The OBRI index evaluates the cardiovascular risk connected to an altered oxidative balance.

• The OBRI index is based on the determination of total cholesterol, of Oxidative Index, and of Protective Index.

OBRI INDEX – Oxidative Balance Risk Index

The OBRI index accounts for Oxidative Index (OI) and Protective Index (PI) indexes and for the total cholesterol and represent an important indication of the cardiovascular risk.

OBRI Index – Reference values

0,8 – 1,2 Normal

1,3 – 1,7 High

1,8 – 2,2 Very high

> 2,2 Extremely high

OB Manager the sofware for the diagnosis of Oxidative Stress

• The interpretation of d-ROMs fast test and PAT test must be performed by medical practitioner.

• We recommend OB Manager software as an aid to the diagnosis of oxidative stress
