MASS INTENTIONS
And for those who have recently died, especially Donald J Stockton, Julia Ann Tall and Mary Lou Blasko may they be welcomed safely home this day by Jesus, the Good Shepherd. May God grant them eternal rest.
From the Desk of our Pastor Rev. Francisco Tovar Phone: 410-535-0223
E-mail: [email protected]
Dear Parishioners,
In this passage St John shows us that the way to salvation is through faith in Jesus and with the help of his grace. Jesus is the Gate whereby we enter eternal Life; he is the Good Shepherd who leads us and who has given up his life for us. All this imagery of shepherd, sheep and flock reminds us of the language of Old Testament prophets: the chosen people is the flock, and the Lord its shepherd. The prophets, particularly Jeremiah and Ezekiel, reacting to the infidelity of the kings and the priests promised that there would be new shepherds. In fact, Ezekiel says that God will raise up a unique Shepherd, a descendent of David, who will lead the sheep to pasture, where they will be quite safe. Jesus describes himself as that Good Shepherd, who looks after his sheep. In other words, the ancient prophecies find their fulfillment in him. From very early on, Christians drew inspiration from this touching image of the Good Shepherd who has such love for each of us.
May the Risen Lord God bless you! Rev. Francisco M. Tovar
Rev. Francisco M. Tovar

FOURTH SUNDAY OF EASTER First Reading: Acts 2:14a, 36‑41 With great authority, Peter proclaims to the people that the Christ who was crucified is indeed the Messiah. Urging them to reform and be baptized in the name of Christ, three thousand responded to his words and were baptized. Second Reading: 1 Peter 2:20b‑25 This is a strong exhortation from Peter to the people to endure suffering for Christ as he did for them. Healed by his wounds, they have “returned to the shepherd.” Gospel: John 10:1‑10 Christ uses the beautiful image of the shepherd to describe his care for his sheep. He also says he is the sheepgate and promises that “Whoever enters through me will be safe.”
It is exciting to read the sermons of Peter and Paul in the Acts of the Apostles. They call our attention to the fundamental teaching of Jesus’ dying and rising for the love of us. When was the last time the words of a preacher, a spiritual book or magazine, or a conversation with a friend or teacher led you to ask ‘What am I to do?’
If I follow the teaching of Peter, I will become more aware of the gift of the promised Spirit to form and transform my life. We are told not to stifle the Spirit, yet sometimes we do a good job at it. We have been baptized, but can always do more in the area of repentance. What am I going to do?

WORLD DAY OF PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS (3 May 2020)
A PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS
Hail Mary, full of grace; all generations call you blessed.
Hail Mother of God; when asked by the angel to bear the Son of the Most High, filled with faith, you responded: "Let it be done unto me."
Holy Mother of Jesus, at the wedding feast at Cana, you prompted your Son to perform his first sign.
Be with us as we discern our life's work and guide us in the way we are called to follow in the footsteps of your Son.
Holy Mother of the Savior, at the foot of the cross you mourned the death of your only Son.
Bless and embrace the loving parents of all priests, deacons, brothers and sisters.
Holy Mother of the Good Shepherd, turn your motherly care to this nation.
Intercede for us to the Lord of the harvest to send more laborers to the harvest in this land dedicated to your honor.
Queen of Peace, Mirror of Justice, Health of the Sick, inspire vocations in our time.
Let the word of your Son be made flesh anew in the lives of persons anxious to proclaim the good news of everlasting life.
Amen.
