Stewardship, A Way of Life “Tithing—God’s Plan for Giving”

Biblically a tithe means 10%. All are asked to consider tithing and return 10% of our income to the Lord (5% to the parish, 5% to your favorite charity). The spiritual practice of tithing disposes us to make God first in every area of our lives! The aim is to secure not the tithe, but the tither, not the gift, but the giver for God!

When you hear the scripture readings and Gospel reading each Sunday, do you “leap for joy?”

If not, don’t blame the lecturer or priest, rather look inside yourself. Do you prepare for Mass

each week or do you just show up and expect to be entertained? We are called to be active

participants, not passive by-standers.

Our Christmas collection is an important part of our parish budget, enabling us to continue sharing Christ’s love all year long within our parish. Dr. Spahr is looking to start a Children's Liturgy Program at the 9:30 a.m. Mass on Sundays. Children in grades K-5 would be invited after the opening prayers to the Chapel to hear the readings and a message that is geared towards their level

of understanding. I am hoping to have volunteers help with this on a rotating basis. Each week we will need a leader and a few volunteers to help out. The leader will be responsible for reading the readings and proclaiming the message of the week. We will have materials available to guide you through this. Also, they will lead the children through the Creed. The children and volunteers will return to Mass during the Offertory. All volunteers need to be cleared through the Diocesan Youth Protection Program (which Dr. Spahr is available to assist you with this). For more information or to volunteer please contact Dr. Spahr at 717-737-8216 (w), by text at 717-810-6870 ©, or by email at [email protected]

THE CANDY CANE

It’s just a little Christmas Treat, but also (did you know?) it represents our Savior

born so long ago. The shape is like a “J” to symbolize His name. The white is for His life,

holy, without blame. And the stripe of red

is for His blood so pure and freely given

that we might spend eternity

with our Lord in Heaven!

FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT

BIBLE STUDY TIME IS BACK—REVELATION

by Jeff Cavins and Thomas Smith

Revelation: The Kingdom Yet to Come is an intriguing study that shows how the kingdom established by Christ in his Church is intimately connected with the kingdom of heaven. Here you will discover what the mysterious figures and images of Revelation mean. You will see how Revelation is more than an apocalyptic vision of the "end times." It is a revelation of God as our Divine Bridegroom and the Church as his spotless Bride, forever united in a heavenly, holy, and mystical marriage that we enter into every time we celebrate the Mass. Your Group Will:

Learn the meaning of the mysterious figures and events in the book of Revelation.

Discover how the Mass is really heaven on earth.

Learn about the Antichrist and his destruction.

See the Second Coming of Christ and the Final Judgment in the context of history.

Learn what will happen at the end of time and the establishment of a new heaven and a new earth.

As in the past, we will offer the programs on Tuesday morning form 10:00 a.m.—noon, beginning January 29 or Thursday evening from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. beginning on January 31. Sessions will end April 9 and April 11. This year, we are also able to offer an additional option to follow this program at your own pace and place of your choosing by streaming it on your devices, (Lap Top, IPads, IPhones, etc.) Although we encourage your participation in the Tuesday or Thursday group sessions, this new option is available for those who are interested in the program but not able to attend the group sessions. Those who choose streaming sessions will receive the instructions and access codes necessary to access the program after registration is complete and workbooks are in. You can also register by filling out the form below and returning it to the church office. The study book is $26.00. Couples may choose to share a

workbook. Registration is due back to the office by Monday, January 14, 2019.
