SACRED HEART FALL

FESTIVAL UPDATE Due to Covid-19, our 2020 Fall Festival

will have a different look. The Fall

Festival committee has decided that for

this year we will need to limit the

Festival to our Raffle and an Online

Auction.

Our committee is viewing this situation

as an opportunity to put our energies on

the Raffle for the betterment of Sacred

Heart. Please watch the bulletin in the

upcoming weeks for more details.

Your Fall Festival Committee

FROM THE PASTOR "I call you friends."

These words of our Lord Jesus resound in my heart as I embark on a new

adventure beginning this week. The last 6 years have been an incredible

journey and I am blessed to have been able to walk it with you. I have

made mistakes, have failed in charity, and have misrepresented Christ and

His Church on many occasions. Yet I have been loved by the Father of

Mercies and by so many of you through it all. Thank you for showing me

the Mercy of Christ.

As you know, it's hard to please a perfectionist (which I am), as we tend to

focus on what's going wrong rather than what's going well. But I'm

especially grateful for these last few weeks where I've been blessed to see

more clear glimpses of what God has done for us at Sacred Heart and in the

lives of many over these years. I'm more able to see God's faithfulness and

generosity now than ever.

Though I have always tried to challenge each of us to wrestle with and

grow in our faith and trust in Christ, rejecting complacency and the spiritual

torpor that comes with it, I leave feeling very gratified and

confident. Gratified that so many have responded in various ways to God's

invitation of grace in their life. Confident that Sacred Heart will continue

to grow in boldly bringing the Good News of Salvation to all in Reedsburg.

I often say that shared sufferings and shared mission are what forge the

strongest bonds of friendship. We have endured much together and we

have engaged in the mission of Christ together. So it is not flippantly that I

repeat the words of our Savior, "I call you friends." Thank you for your

spiritual friendship.

Let's pray for one another. I'll see you all in the Eucharist, and, God

willing, enjoy your friendship forever in the Heavenly Banquet.

Fr. Dave

JUSTICE AND PEACE

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops

recently published a special prayer for this difficult time.

It addresses our current anxieties and concerns as well as

those of others throughout our world because we are all

affected by this.

COVID-19: A PRAYER OF SOLIDARITY For all who have contracted coronavirus,

We pray for care and healing.

For those who are particularly vulnerable,

We pray for safety and protection.

For all who experience fear or anxiety,

We pray for peace of mind and spirit.

For affected families who are facing difficult decisions

between food on the table or public safety,

We pray for policies that recognize their plight.

For those who do not have adequate health insurance,

We pray that no family will face financial burdens alone.

For those who are afraid to access care due to immigration

status,

We pray for recognition of the God-given dignity of all.

For our brothers and sisters around the world,

We pray for shared solidarity.

For public officials and decisionmakers,

We pray for wisdom and guidance.

Father, during this time may your Church be a sign of

hope, comfort and love to all.

Grant peace.

Grant comfort.

Grant healing.

Be with us, Lord.

Amen.

KNOW YOUR LITURGY

Last week we looked at a study conducted by the U.S.

Bishop’s Committee on Cultural Diversity in the

Church. It viewed some of the key findings as they relate

to religious practices. Here are some further findings from

the study:

As they relate to the parish experience of diversity for

each group, the findings are:

Widespread majority agreement among all sub-

groups that "having people of different cultural

backgrounds enriches the parish."

Few feel like an outsider in their parish. The

group most likely to do so are foreign-born

Hispanic or Latino parishioners (36% agree).

Many agree that they have a role in the

"decision-making" of their parish. Those most

likely to "strongly" disagree with this are

Koreans (51%) and Hispanics or Latinos

(28%).

Foreign-born parishioners are more interested

than U.S.-born parishioners to believe their

parish should be providing pastoral care for

refugees and immigrants.

CARA affirms that the study reveals some important

trends, and provides the following conclusions:

The Catholic Church in the United States is one

of the most culturally diverse institutions in the

country and it will become even more diverse

in the future.

Parishes, schools and colleges, hospitals,

charities, and other ministries need to adapt and

prepare for this growing diversity.

In the pews, many of those who are most

comfortable with growing diversity are those

who immigrated to the U.S, though African

American Catholics are one of the most likely

to say they welcome diversity in the parish and

that diversity enriches parish life.

Those who are descendants of previous waves

of immigration from Europe appear to be the

least comfortable with diversity and less

willing to engage in parish life beyond

attending Mass.

Archbishop Garcia-Siller, asked the bishops to consider

how the data speaks to their local realities and how these

findings may affect the way local dioceses plan, set

priorities and allocate resources for the continuation of

the mission of the Church. He reminded them of Pope

Francis' call to a pastoral conversion and to put the entire

church in a "permanent state of mission."

Antiphons? What and why?

Did you notice the Entrance antiphons? What are these,

you ask? These antiphons are specifically designed to fit

each Sunday in the part of the year and the cycle of the

year each mass. An antiphon consists of one or more

psalm verses or sentences from Holy Scripture which are

sung or simply recited. Antiphons are usually a chant or

short chant-style song. The purpose of these are to be

easy to follow and to have a reflection on the mass

pertaining to the specific psalms that mass. They should

be easy enough to recite that you can still sing or chant

them while allowing yourself to dwell on the action

happening in the mass. At present you hear the cantor

sing them and then the verses. When we resume normal

singing expectations at mass, the congregation should

participate singing in the refrain section while bringing

themselves into the process of the mass. Can’t wait to hear

your voices when we are all singing together again!

SACRED HEART FOOD PANTRY

Mobile Food Pantry. This Thursday, July 9, our Sacred

Heart Mobile Food Pantry will once again be providing

food on a drive-thru basis. We continue to limit the

number of volunteers on-site. We ask that volunteers for

this distribution come ONLY if you are called ahead of

time. Families in need of food may come by 3

p.m. Distribution will take place from 3:30-4:30 or until

food runs out. If people need to pick up for a second

household, they may go to the end of the line and drive

through again or have someone else pick up their food. If

you are able to give families-in-need the information

about this pantry, we would be grateful for your help.

The following sign may be used to advertise the pantry to

anyone who can use food.
