JUSTICE AND PEACE
We are All Interconnected and Interdependent
Dealing with the COVID-19 virus pandemic has made us
greatly aware of how interconnected and interdependent
everyone in our world is. It has become more apparent
that in addition to doing what we should to take care of
ourselves, we also have a responsibility to do what we can
to help others. We are reminded almost daily that, to
protect our own health and to help slow the spread of
COVID-19, we need to wash our hands, use hand
sanitizer, social distance, and wear a mask. Hopefully, for
everyone’s protection, we are now following those
guidelines.
This pandemic has also had economic consequences,
resulting in food insecurity for many. People suddenly
lost their source of income and found themselves needing
to rely on community resources they have never before
had to contact. One of these resources is local food
pantries which help to provide a temporary source of food.
Two food pantries, which assist people in our area, need
monetary donations to continue providing food assistance.
If you are looking for a way to help others, and are able to
do so, please consider contributing to one of these
organizations. They are: Reedsburg Food Pantry, City
Hall, 134 S Locust St, Reedsburg, WI 53959 and Second
Harvest Food Bank of Southern Wisconsin, 2802 Dairy
Drive, Madison, WI 53718. Second Harvest provides the
food distributed at Sacred Heart’s monthly mobile food
pantry.
Something else we all can do is pray for everyone affected
by this pandemic . . . our entire world.

KNOW YOUR LITURGY
Spiritual Communion. During our “safer at home” times
during the COVID-19 pandemic, while we were unable to
participate physically in the celebration of the Mass in our
own parish church, we participated via social media. And,
while we were unable to actually receive the Body &
Blood of Christ, we made an “Act of Spiritual
Communion” at home. The Catechism of the Catholic
Church tells us that “the Church warmly recommends that
the faithful receive Holy Communion each time they
participate in the celebration of the Eucharist” (No. 1417),
but when we cannot, we can receive Christ spiritually. An
act of spiritual communion is a fervent desire to receive
Jesus in the Most Holy Sacrament and to embrace him at a
time or in circumstances when we cannot receive Him in
sacramental Communion. Acts of spiritual Communion
increase our desire to receive sacramental Communion
and help us avoid the sins that would make us unable to
receive Holy Communion worthily. Because some of us
(due to age, illness, compromised immune systems,
physical inability to come to church, etc.) cannot
participate in Mass, we may pray the prayer of St.
Alphonsus Liguori and make and “Act of Spiritual
Communion”: My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most
Blessed Sacrament.
I love You above all things,
and I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace You as if you were already there,
and I unite myself wholly to You.
Never permit me to be separated from You.
REGULARLY SCHEDULED ADORERS NEEDED

‘Refraining’ from Singing
While a clever musical pun, we are still being asked to
refrain from singing during the mass as it uses increased
aspirations which propels moisture further and faster than
regular speaking. As Father Dave stated, “Please allow
the cantor to give voice to that which is in our hearts.”
Our Entrance Antiphon this week is Psalm 16: “In my
justice, I shall see your face, O Lord.” The verse
expounds upon a prayer to God over a just cause, asking
for his intercession and guidance of our own actions in his
judgement. This is a great concept for us to think on as
the cantor lifts it as a prayer during the procession to our
liturgy.
