PARISH NEWS

ST. BONAVENTURE COLUMBUS, NE

From our Pastor….

This weekend, we welcome Fr. Hector Del Losario from The Oblates of St. Francis de Sales to speak on the needs of the Virac, Philippines Diocese. He joins us as part of the Archdiocese of Omaha’s annual Missionary Coop. I am in Billings, MT visiting my brothers and will see you next weekend.

In today’s Gospel, Jesus sends out those (in addition to the Twelve) who received a calling from him to enter neighboring towns to prepare the people for a visit from Jesus. I remember watching my Kirby vacuum trainer put together and take apart the various attachments. He was smooth and graceful. I thought, “How hard can this be?” Then it was my turn to put together and take apart the machine. It was harder than it looked! But the more I did it, the better I got. That’s the way it is with us in our mission to tell others about Jesus. The 70 (or 72, depending on some scholars) were just ordinary folks like us. They had to place their faith and trust in Divine Providence to take care of their needs and give them the words to say. When an opportunity arises for us to tell others about Jesus, we are called to speak up. Maybe we won’t be as smooth as we would like. Maybe afterward we will think, “I should have said this or that.” But God uses us to speak to the human heart. Christ has chosen you to be a disciple. And you will only get better over time.

Blessings,

Simon House balers for July 12: Don Cieloha & Paul Dohmen
