LADIES OF THE LORD NEWS!

Circle Rotation as follows:

December - Circle 3 & 4 Funeral Dinner s

PARISH NEWS

From our Pastor… Today is known as gaudete (rejoice) Sunday. The past two weeks, we have been in waiting mode. The next two weeks, we shift to rejoicing at the imminent coming of our savior. The readings today invite us to think about what brings us joy. Isaiah offers images of a world that will blossom into fullness of life. This fullness results from something being restored that was lost or missing. In the Gospel, Jesus says sight will be restored, the lame will walk, the deaf will hear…. God wants us to have this fullness of life. As we hear in the Second Reading from James, we must be patient. But we have the assurance that it will come, by us being fully receptive to God’s gift. What makes you joyful? How is God asking you to be patient at the present time? (Based on writings in Living the Word) Blessings,

ARCHBISHOP’S ANNUAL APPEAL We continue to hit goals that we have not seen in a long time! To date, 402 of our families have committed, $65,572.23 to the Archbishop’s annual appeal. 130% of our goal! Thank you for all the ways that you support our parish not only through this appeal but in all the sharing of your time, talent and treasure. We are blessed!

On December 9, 1531, Our Lady appeared to a simple Aztec Indian who had converted to the Catholic faith, Juan Diego. Three days later, at Juan Diego's request, Mary provided a sign so the local bishop would believe that she actually had appeared. Roses grew out of the cold winter soil, and when Juan Diego opened his cloak to show the bishop what he had found, an image of Our Lady appeared on the fabric. These occurrences led to the conversion of most of Mexico and remain today a strong sign of Our Lady's concern and love for us. Church-approved Marian apparitions always point to her Son, Jesus. For many of us with a strong Marian devotion, Mary is a pathway into a stronger relationship with our Lord. Her generosi-ty shown to Juan Diego is the same generosity shown to each of us that choose to ask her intercession. Families pray for one an-other and she is a very prominent member of our family. May the miracle of Our Lady of Guadalupe be a sign of warmth for you in the cold of winter and of Advent hope for a Christ Child that has redeemed the world. ~Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS

3RD SUNDAY OF ADVENT "The poor have the good news proclaimed to them." Jesus caps his catalogue of miracles with this unexpected statement. In the same sentence where he reminds his listeners that he has cured the blind, the lame, the deaf, the sick, and even raised the dead, Jesus concludes by mentioning preaching the good news to the poor. How did that make the list of supernatural cures? What's so miraculous about good news? Well, in this case, the news is that the Messiah has finally come, in the most miraculous of ways, as the incarnate Son of God conceived in the womb of a virgin. This is a message of spiritual healing: he comes to "save his people from their sins" (Mt 1:21). The poor are not just those in physical poverty, but those whose sins have impoverished their souls. This of course applies to us. The poverty of our own sinfulness-of the alienation we create between ourselves and God-can be overcome by the forgiveness offered to us in Christ. Because of this, we have cause to rejoice! On this Third Sunday of Advent, Gaudete Sunday, we are encouraged to rejoice. We pause in this season of anticipation to remember that, in truth, our hopes have already been fulfilled. God has "visited and brought redemption to his people" (Lk 1:68). He is among us, saving us even now! We need not look to the past to witness Christ's astonishing acts. His work in our souls, right here and now, is miracle enough. ©2013 Liturgical Publications Inc
