Going door to door, talking to people about the 4 Spiritual Laws can be daunting. But evangelism doesnt have to be like that. In fact, evangelism is really only effective when it flows naturally from who you authentically are. It starts with each of us knowing our story of salvation inside and out. Sharing that story with one another is good practice for when we might be able to share it with someone outside the church. But we first have to know our story and know it well. Writing it down to begin with can help. But it needs to be written, finally, on our hearts (cf. Jeremiah 31:33) so that we can share it from our hearts. Handing it to someone in written form will not be very effective (unless they ask for it in written form!). Because the Gospel (Good News) is about what God has done in and through and for us. We can tell the story of Jesus, of course, and we should. But the sad fact is that many people know that story (vaguely) and the telling of it sounds and feels more like a history lesson than anything else. But OUR story, now THAT is unique and new! But it cannot stop there. Sharing our story is only the first step. We also need to mentor others into a life of discipleship. That requires that we establish and nurture on-going relationships with pre-believers and new believers so that they can see (in us) what following Jesus looks like. We need to do missionwith others, do lifewith others. People today are looking for something that is real and life-changing. They want to see what following Jesus looks like and why it is important. They want their lives to make a difference in this world. Is there any way to impact the world more powerfully and righteously than to make disciples of Jesus? This is our calling: to make disciples of Jesus Christ. Hows it going?

Making Connections Evangelism is a scary word for some people. Going door to door, talking to people about the 4 Spiritual Laws can be daunting. But evangelism doesn’t have to be like that. Beth Moore Women's Ministry Event If you need a time of refreshing (and really who doesn't!) FVUMC will be hosting a simulcast of the Beth Moore ministry event on Saturday, September 12, 2015. Beth Moore is a nationally known Bible teacher and author. This year's event theme is Audacious. Thirty years in the making, Audacious is a deep dive into the message that has compelled Beth Moore to serve women around the globe. Glancing over the years of ministry behind her and strengthening her resolve to the call before her, she came to the realization that her vision for women was incomplete. It lacked something they were aching for. Something Jesus was longing for. Beth identifies that missing link by digging through Scripture, unearthing life experiences, and spotlighting a turning point with the capacity to infuse any life with holy passion and purpose. What was missing? Well, let’s just say, it’s audacious and it's for all of us. And it's the path to the life you were born to live. Since it is a simulcast, we will structure our retreat as follows: 3:00—6:00 pm on Saturday, September 12th and Saturday, September 19th. The cost for participation will be $20. If you are interested in participating, please see Cyndy Haworth or call her cell (909) 342-8302.

Prayer on Sunday Mornings

A spontaneous movement of prayer has sprung up on Sunday mornings before worship, and you are invited to participate. Come early (10:00 AM) and gather at the front of the Sanctuary to pray for our church. We are praying for spiritual break-through, revival and the Holy Spirit to move in our hearts! It isn’t a program, and there aren’t designated leaders. It is just an opportunity to come together and pray for our church. All are welcome!

Worship Host Training Pastor Glen invites any who are interested in becoming Worship Hosts to meet for a time of training on Sunday, September 20th at 12:00 noon in the Sanctuary. A Worship Host is someone who helps to lead worship on Sunday mornings (primarily) by reading Scripture, doing announcements, taking the offering and other functions in the service. The idea is to relieve the preacher from having to do everything in the service! Both men and women, and especially youth, are invited to consider this ministry.

Call or see Pastor Glen or Cyndy Haworth if you have questions.

POSSIBLE NEW UMC MISSIONARY TO SUPPORT—Lester Dornon Serving At: Tansen Hospital Location: Nepal, Asia and Pacific Home Country: United States of America, North America Spouse: Deborah Dornon Lester Dornon, M.D., is a missionary with the General Board of Global Ministries, assigned as senior physician at the Tansen Hospital in western Nepal in Asia. He and his wife Deborah returned to Nepal and Tansen as missionaries in mid-2012, having served there from 1990 to 2002.

The hospital in Tansen is related to the United Mission to Nepal, established in 1954 as a partnership between the people of Nepal and a coalition of 20 Christian organizations on four continents. The United Methodist Church has a long associa-tion with this medical mission. Nepal is a small country high in the Himalayan Mountains, where poverty is widespread and health facilities in limited supply.

Tansen and other United Mission facilities not only treat the sick but train Nepali doctors and other medical staff to eventually assume full responsibility for the hospitals.

Lester Dornon was born in Japan, the son of Methodist missionaries. He received his Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Medicine degrees from Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois. He felt a call to practice medicine in a place where people have little or no access to healthcare. That desire led him and Deborah to Nepal, arriving with two small children; a third child was born while they served there.

“When we left Nepal in 2002,” Lester says, “we felt that when our children were well on their way to independence we would return to help again. God has opened the door for us to do just that.” Back in the US in 2002, Lester went into private medical practice in Waynesville, Ohio, and from 2005 to 2012 was affiliated with AmCare Doctors’ Urgent Care in Milford, Ohio. He is a member of the First United Methodist Church of Middletown, Ohio in the West Ohio Annual Conference. Of his spiritual journey, Lester says that he “made a personal commitment to serve the Lord when I got to college and saw the lives people around me were living, people with different values, different priorities, and no eternal significance to existence. Once I got out of the driver’s seat of my life, and let God take control, I was able to leave a lot of anxiety and stress behind—to wait on God to do things in my life that were beyond my control.” Lester and Deborah’s adult children, Rachel, Luke, and Luke’s wife, Laura, live in the US. Their youngest daughter, Hannah, is a music teacher in Kathmandu, Nepal. He would replace Dr. Elma Jocson who is on leave and working at a hospital in the Philippines.
