18th Annual Jeff Beukeboom Charity ClassicThe Jeff Beukeboom Charity Classic is an important fund raiser for the Club, significantly helping to keep costs affordable, and to provide subsidies and free memberships for children from families who are struggling financially. The $28, 000 raised this year will provide countless services for local kids. For example we can provide $13,500 nutirious meals to hungry kids, 257 kids can enjoy a week of summer camp, 3, 176 children could be safe after school at the club and 1350 teens could enjoy a year of drop in recreation! It is only through your help that we can do this! Thank you to the Lindsay Golf Club, our sponsors, auction donors, golfers and volunteers for making another year such a success!

Your donation ensures that no child is denied access to the Club due to financial barriers.

Our family would like to express our appreciation to the Boys & Girls Club for your excellent programming. Our son Nicolas is diagnosed with Autism. At the Club Nicolas and his sister get to run off their excess energy in the huge gym and on the outdoor playground, learn to cook and grab a healthy snack, make a craft, put on a play, play ping pong and go rock climbing; all of this with their friends and Team Leaders. The Team Leaders join in the fun with the kids and show a genuine interest. Not every day with Nicolas is a good day, but the staff knows how to de-escalate a situation and get things back under control quickly. The more he has attended, the better his days have been. So thanks from the bottom of our hearts for the difference you have made in the life of our son.

IMPACT “to have an immediate and strong effect or influence on somebody.”

I M P A C T

Being a parent, and an Early Childhood Educator I under-stand the importance of extracurricular and recreational programming for children. My son has been a member of the Club for four years. Within the past year, my husband and I have been supported financially by the club to pay for our child’s care as we were unable to do so. We were going to pull our son out from care but staff were told of our circumstances. We said we were able to pay $5 a day. It was granted and thank goodness because we have no family in Lindsay and all of our friends are working families that could not provide care for our son. The staff and volunteers at the club are our family and the relationship they have with us is the best I have received at any child care program. The after school program that the club provides is amazing. As an educator, I know that a child or youth are willing or wanting to participate in activities that are of interest to them. The club offers such as wealth of programs

whether it’s sports, the arts, self help or life skills. My son has participated in the Lego club, Summer Camp, Family Trips, Rock Climbing, Canada’s Wonderland, Laser Quest, a Microsoft party and various sporting activities. He just started going to the dances as well and I feel comfortable with him being there. The club has given us quality care. My son was shy when he first started, but with the child centered activities that were of interest to him he is now a confident, social, friendly child. Even his teachers at his elementary school have commented on the positive impact the club has placed in my son’s life.Thank you to the staff for the support my family has received. I appreciate all the hard work and dedication you have for my family and for all the families at the club. It is valued and as the saying goes the club is a “good place to be.” My son certainly thinks so and so do I.

President’s NoteI am pleased to bring greetings on behalf of the Board of Directors of the Foundation, as I commence my term as President of the Board. I look forward to working with the Board and staff to assist in the development of financial resources needed to allow the Club to continue to provide quality and accessible programming and services for youth in our community. The success of recent events, such as the annual Jeff Beukeboom Charity Classic Golf Tournament and the inaugural year of Race for Kids, would not be possible without the ongoing support of our community, which we recognize in our various sponsors, donors and volunteers. We thank you and look forward to your continued support in upcoming events and activities, which help make the Boys and Girls Club of the Kawartha Lakes a “good place to be.”

Only months after the Susan DeNure Sports Fund was announced, it’s already Paying off hugely for local families for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Kawartha Lakes. The fund is a four-year, $200,000 commitment from the DeNure family in memory of Susan who passed away in 2011. The funding has helped the Boys and Girls Club launch the Susan DeNure Sports Programs - three youth programs consisting of Sprockids Mountain Biking, Steven Nash Basketball and Canadian Ball Hockey in nine communities across the city. Trevor Tompkins, Coordinator

of Rural Communities for the Boys and Girls Club, said things are “so far, so good” for the program. “It is well underway”.

Sprockids sessions ran in Coboconk, Kirkfield, Bobcaygeon, Dunsford and Lindsay from April to May. Tompkins said they had great interest drawing 27, 15, 11, 30 and 100 participants in those areas respectively. A second set of sessions ran in June and early August in Fenelon Falls, Woodville and Omemee, drawing 39, 26 and 14 participants.Tompkins said they were very happy with the participation figures.

“For the first time we’ve offered this program, we are very pleased with numbers,” Tompkins said. “Overall, we’ve had 350 kids”.

Tompkins added that many of the kids who take part in the program “didn’t know how to bike” coming in. Kids learn about bike safety and are taken on local trail rides to help them gain experience and confidence. “Parents are very happy” Tompkins said. One such parent is Liane Kennedy of Cambray.

Her son, seven-year-old Tom took part in the Sprockids program in Fenelon Falls. Beforehand, Liane said her son wasn’t able to ride without training wheels. She explained because of medical challenges, her son doesn’t have a lot of muscle memory, but being involved with Sprockids has helped him immensly.

“The programming has been absolutely fabulous,” she said. “He is at the point where he is now able to ride on his own for a little while. He’s come leaps and bounds.” Liane said she is so grateful the club brings the programs to rural areas of the city because if they were all in Lindsay “it simply wouldn’t happen.”

She added that Tom is looking forward to the ball hockey and basketball programs later this year. Tompkins added that funding provided has allowed the club to keep the costs down for the programming. “Without the sports fund that wouldn’t be possible,” he said.
