● Focus on identified best classroom practices and instructional strategies, including ways to enhance and redefine instruction through technology
● Provide opportunity for staff collaboration around data & instructional responses to data
Technology is used to identify and respond to staff learning needs, providing responsive learning opportunities.
Student Achievement : Close opportunity gaps through the alignment of curriculum and the implementaon of teaching and learning pracces that support standards and district instruconal iniaves.
● Align curriculum and instructional practice to standards and district initiatives (Danielson framework, oneone technology)
● Create a comprehensive Continuum of Services model of academic and behavioral supports for students of all levels
● Specifically design instructional strategies to close opportunity gaps
Technology is used to transform student learning through innovation, by modifying and ultimately redefining both instructional tasks and student learning practices.
SUNNYCREST 4
Assessment and Data : Support the intenonal use of student learning data to shape our teaching and learning pracces in order to increase learning for all students.
● Expand use of Homeroom Premium and other digital resources to readily access data to help guide student learning as well as evaluate program effectiveness
● Use student data to inform instructional strategies, determine student interventions, and monitor student growth while expanding access to students and families
● Increase the frequency of growth monitoring for students receiving targeted interventions. Continue to support collaborative exploration and collaborative response to this data
● Expand teachers’ understanding of how to interpret student achievement data and how to use it to change instruction
● Continually reflect upon and adjust our use of assessments to ensure the best possible use of this data without overtesting students
Technology is used to support the collection and analysis of student data, as well as support the development and implementation of targeted instruction tied to the data. Technology is also used to monitor and celebrate student growth, as well as identifying when growth is insufficient. Continuum of Services : Implement an effecve, comprehensive connuum of services for students which includes a flexible mul‐ered system of supports to meet the needs of each student.

Goal #1: Excellence in Teaching & Learning Sunnycrest Action Steps 20162017
Professional Learning: ○ Focused professional development targeng differenaon strategies designed to meet the needs of idenfied students will be
offered monthly ■ Professional learning focus on high‐leverage instruconal component (Lake 8, Danielson) 2b: Establishing a Culture for
Learning. ■ A video series (Number Sense 101 by Chrisna Tondevold) on developing students’ early number sense is being offered to
all primary teachers. Each week a different topic on number sense is highlighted, with the series lasng 12 weeks. ■ Learning Walks: Collaborave, focused observaons of exceponal teaching and learning (focusing on small‐group,
differenated instrucon). ■ Data Cycle Meengs: Focused, grade‐level conversaons designed to idenfy students’ needs based on student data as
well as to develop specific strategies to meet idenfied needs and support students at their levels of readiness for reading instrucon
● Both Learning Assistance Program (LAP) staff and Special Educaon (SPED) staff will parcipate to increase communicaon and align instruconal pracces between our general educaon teachers and our support programs.
■ All cerficated staff will parcipate in differenated professional book studies. Parcipants will engage in rigorous discussion and thoughೀul reflecon on effecve teaching strategies intenonally focused on readers that are below grade level. Teachers will collaboravely develop plans, implement them in their respecve classrooms, and meet to discuss results and next steps.
● Grades K‐3: When Readers Struggle: Teaching That Works ● Grades 4‐5: When Kids Can’t Read: What Teachers Can Do ● The Glass Castle: A Memoir by Jeannee Walls: Oponal book study offered to deepen staff’s understanding of the
unique and challenging environmental circumstances that potenally affect student achievement.

Student Achievement, Assessment & Data:
Kindergarten: The expectaon is for kindergarten students to master 52 high frequency words by June. Our kindergarten team, working in tandem with our our early‐learning coach, Beth Yeuer, has consolidated this meline. In doing so, by year’s end, kindergarteners will be automac in their sight word recognion in connected texts, thus freeing their aenon to apply addional strategies for reading with meaning.
● Master 85% of high frequency words by the end of first semester (through set four); ● Master 100% of the district mandated words plus 21 addional words by spring conferences (through set six)
Fourth Grade: Currently, we have 47 students reading below grade level (as measured by Fountas and Pinnell). Addionally, we have 15 students who are reading at grade level but did not pass the third grade ELA SBA. Subsequently:
● All of the idenfied 47 students will make one‐year’s + growth, as measured by Fountas and Pinnell). ● Students reading at grade level but not meeng standard on the ELA SBA will make one year’s + growth as measured by
the SBA ELA scale score range. All idenfied students, ulizing a “push‐in” model, will:
● Receive small group instrucon with a highly concentrated emphasis on phonics and comprehension using short passages ● Receive support with grade levels texts (not below) with support as needed as to best access grade level texts ● Receive support with morphology (provided via Wired for Reading) ● Receive support on online reading strategies
Future Ready Libraries: ● Support opportunies for collaboraon between teacher librarians and classroom teachers to meet the needs of students as they
research, use digital tools ethically and create products as part of the inquiry process ○ The goal is to support the development of at least one collaborave, aligned project between our teacher librarian and 2nd grade
teachers. Connuum of Services:
● Sunnycrest is utilizing a three tiered approach to meeting students’ academic and behavioral needs. The first tier, or schoolwide practices, encompass systems like the Sunnycrest Eagle of the Week, S.T.A.R. reinforcement, whole class social skills lessons from the counselor, and community involvement through the WatchDOGS program. At the second tier, supports are more targeted with specific purpose. This tier includes our LAP program to assist with struggling readers, our ELL program for students who use more than English as a primary
SUNNYCREST 8
language, Sunnycrest Reading Tutors program, teacher created studentfocused goals (3.1 groups), Big Vikings, weekly friendship groups with the counselor, checkin and checkout systems with the Solution Room, and more. As a building, we’re dedicated to supporting students through professional learning and use of best practices and interpretation of data through Data Cycle meetings and grade level collaboration. Finally, at the third tier, students who require the most specific, intense support both academically and/or behaviorally, are being provided assistance through the Solution Room, Counselor, and Special Education services. These include daily and weekly individual and small group instruction in academics and behavior/social skills support.
Measures of Success: ● Project/Lesson designed and taught by librarian teacher and classroom teacher will have been taught. Teachers will sharing successes and
learning. ● All of the idenfied 47 students will make one‐year’s growth, as measured by Fountas and Pinnell). ● Students reading at grade level but not meeng standard on the ELA SBA will make at least one year’s growth ● Master 85% of high frequency words by the end of first semester (through set four); ● Master 100% of the district mandated words plus 21 addional words by spring conferences (through set six)
