Foster's Lager-A symbol of Australiafor almost a century .

Since the Fosters brothers brewed thefirst distinctive Australian lager in 1888the fame of Australia's favourite beerhas grown around Australia and aroundthe world .

Foster's was first exported to SouthAfrica during the Boer war. Today youcan get a Foster's from Baghdad toBangkok, San Francisco to Singapore .

It's by far the biggest sellingAustralian beer in Britain .

One of the top 10 selling imports inthe U.S.A.

Sold in every Australian state,Foster's outsells every other Australianbrand of beer .

Australia's favourite beer.

Collegians have well and truly captured last season's form . Testimony to that is their demolition ofBuileen-TemPlestowe last round by 76 points . It was Collegians fifth consecutive win after losing?heir first three games and they replace Bulleen-Templestowe in second place with the bestpercentage in the competition . The Lions third quarter was the decisive one - 7 goals and Bulleen-Templestowe goalless . Roberts (8) and Bennett (4) were amongst the goals and centre half forwardStepl 3n Bickford was another focal point in the attack . Rick Schober has added a bit of muscle toCollegians at centre half back and Kahn looks a class player . Neither of the Hermans played but thenagain the Bullants were a little depleted with no Palmer and no Keenan . Laurie Aghan was calm afterthe match but stressed that they would not fold again in the same manner! Look out for a more deter-mined Bulleen-Templestowe in the future .

The biggest surprise was Ivanhoe's 9 goal win over leaders North Old Boys. It didn't look like it at:uarter time with North holding a 5 goal advantage but then came the onslaught . Ivanhoe kicked 12goals in the second term and held North to 2 points . Boccabella marked strongly for 8 goals, thesought-after rover Peter Adams was excellent, Howard and Loton as usual were fine players butorhaps best on ground was wingman Ted Flynn .

Be La Salle have moved to the top of the ladder with their comfortable win over an improvedCaulfield Grammarians. The 'usuals' played well for De La Salle -®eveson (CHB and CHF), Mahernving was from the back pocket and clever half forward Peter Rennie . Phil Kerin was at a weddingand Brian Waldron filled in capably there with 6 goals . Berzins and Nalder between them kicked 9 ofCaulfield's 11 goals from the half forward flanks .

University Blues! Have I worked them out? I tipped them to lose to Old Scotch and tipped them tobeat Ormond - not bad goiong I reckon. No inside information, just hot and cold and a much betterside at the University . The Blues seem to have the wood on Ormond . The Blues were always incontrol in a very tough game and won by 15 points . Isn't veteran Bernie Angel having a fine season, backed up by Tim Carey. R ichard Polkinghorne is playing good football at the moment . And no VAFAepresentative !

F.larcellin overcame a 15 point deficit at half time against Old Scotch to win by 8 points . Their thirdquarter of 6 goals was the clincher! Young Tony Carafa played for the College on Friday and off theinterchange bench on Saturday and was inspiring . The win by the Eagles leaves Old Scotch andCaulfield Grammarians in the danger zone .

STUART STOCKDALE'S REVIEW OF MAFL GAM E

VAFA vs VFA BY ROSS BOOT H

Footba!l was the winner last Sunday at Elsternwick Park in the 5th annual clash between the VAFA andthe VFA .

The scoreboard showed a 29 point win to the VFA but it was a heartening performance from an ame teurteam that did not give up. It was a very competitive game with both backlines on top, but the VFA had justa bit more up forward .

Our backline was led by Andrew Smythe. He was an attacking back pocket who lifted the team late in thegame when moved to the centre . Ric Schober gave away inches to Jamie Shaw but to hold him to 4 goalswas a pretty good performance. Paul Considine was strong and physiical though he did give us heart failureat tiimes with his use of the ball .

The half back line of Fuller, O'Dea and Ryan was a springboard for attack. Regrettably O'Dea was off the

ground for some time with a dislocated finger! Did we try and beat them with 17 for a couple of minutes')The centre line was put under great pressure from the running VFA defence. Tregear was on and off th eground but kicked a nice goal in the last term, Nalder was a battler but very tired at the end and Witts was

very competitive on his wing .

On the half forward line Cahill started very well but then flashed in and out . On the other flank Hermanwas very useful but unfortunately was unable to produce the individual brilliance to really lift the side . I hadto feel a little sorry for Captain Mick Deveson

. He did not stop trying but the breaks did not seem to go hisway. Players upfield, under pressure weren't able to deliver the ball well enough and big Brad Nimmo hashis measure .

Meehan on the ball was excellent . It was a delight to see his use of the fottball . Peter Wright has had betterdays - he just could not seem to hold his marks. But what an opponent! Robert Evans was superb! Capironkicked a couple of goals until he too was injured - a 'corked' thigh .

Heath battled hard in the ruckk against a very physical Jeff Sarau . I though Nick was a little unlucky notto be on the end of a few more frees! Spillane at times looked very good, especially when accelerating awayfrom the packs! We did not see the best of Adams . He took a nasty knock but will surely simprove . I thinkhe might have been under a lot of pressure on Sunday .

Interchange players had a chance to perform . For a forward Berzins played well on the back line and look-ed good when he went up forward late in the game. Good hands and a beautiful kick! Loton and Taylor triedhard but did not have a big influence on the game .

The estimated crowd of about 4,000 enjoyed the game and the VAFA can be proud of the performanceof the team on Sunday. . They did their best, but were just not quite classy enough to convert up forwardnor physically strong enough to upset the VFA big guns . Well done, I am sure you will do well in Adelaide .B . COMM .BANK STALWART PLAYS 20 0All at Commonwealth Bank Football Club con-

gratulate Steve `Snow' White on playing his 200thgame for the club today. 'Snow' played his first gamefor the Cobras in 1966. He is the only current playerto have played for the Juniors with the Bank . Stevewould have played his 200th game earlier if not forpostings interstate and overseas (P.N .G . )

Steve exemplifies the amateur spirit, he is a great

team man . He backs up his team mates on the fieldand always attends the club's social functions. Stevewould be first to admit he does not possess the skillsall players would dearly like to have, but he doespossess determination which is the envy of greaterskilled players . 'Snow' is a life member of the club,an award he truly deserved .

Let's hope we can have two wins today to someway make the day a great one for you . Great effort!

Against an undermanned Monaro (ACT) combine the 'CDEFG' Team had little trouble in coasting to a hugevictory in the Queen's Birthday curtain raiser.

The Amateur side start most impressively with John Meese (Preston MBOB) and David O'ShaughnessyIpTrinity) in fine goal scoring form. Backed up the mid field skills of Vince Scialla (O.Mentonians) and Skip-Per Roger Paul (O.Hai!eybury) plus the attacking play of the defence, especially Vice Captain David Gregory(Balaclava) the home team built up a big lead by quarter time . With Stuart Gordon (State Bank) dominatin gthe ruck the result was never in doubt and a nine goal third quarter left Monaro rather demoralised .

In a side that boasted a number of good players the selectors were unanimous in selecting David Gregoryas best afield .

The side lined up as follows :B, Gregory Miller RobsonH . 8 . Jakoveski Allibon CoffeyC. Sciacca Paul Bell

H F. Shand Corbett FellowsF. O'Shaughnessy Meese SedgwickRucks : Carboon, Norman . Rover: WiltshireInterchange : Gerny, Legge, Zani nCoach : Andrew Langford-Jones . Captain : Roger Paul .

UNDER 19s GO DOW NThe U19 team was well beaten by a more determined and stronger VFA side . Apart from the third quarter

our boys were repeatedly second to the ball and the lack of any system up forwrd made goal scoring difficult .The team lined up as follows:B. Oldfield Acreman GillonH .B. Holt Clark NashC. 150 AT THOMASTOWNCongratulations are extended to Stephen Pace

for playing his 150th game earlier this year, andapologies for the lateness of its presentation .

Stephen has been a valuable forward at the Clubleading the goak kicking in 1980 with 102 goals anddid very well in the Club voting in 1975, 1979 and1982 .

After three years at Buileen Temp . Stephen hasreturned to his former Club to help them up the lad-der. We are all looking forward to more vintage PacePlay in his future games with us. Well done Pacey.

100 AT OLD GEELONG

Congratulations to Geoff Lavender who toda yplays hos 100th game for Old Geelong . Geoff'started as a fringe player with the reserves somesix years ago and has persevered to become aregular member of the firsts over the past threeyears, to say nothing of having been a great

club man during that time . On a day when theclub so badly needs a victory we hope the teamwill lift sufficiently to make Geoff's 100th awinner. Well done,'Slav' .

110 GAMES TO ST. ANDREWS COME BACKPLAYE R

Doug who retired after a bad hand injury afterthe 1981 season, has chosen to return to the Goldand Blue jumper and in his 3 matches to date hasshown glimpses of his old form and ability . With acouple more runs under his belt there is no doubtthat Doug will find himself back in the Senior team .Again we wish you many more appearance for St .Andrews .

r,Arguably the match of the day in A Section will be played at Ivanhoe between the home side and Uni

Blues. Both sidesare on 16 points, are separated by just 1 percentage point and more importantly with Or .mond are only a game out of the four. It's hard to know whether rival coaches Alan Salter (I) and Rok--rtLamb (B) will have appreciated the weeks break or not, as both sides had great wins before against North

OB and Ormond respectively. It was strogly rumoured at Elsternwick Park on Sunday that Michael Yeo willbe back today and if this is so his on field presence will be a great boost to the 'students', who will matchthe Hoe in big man strength . Much will depend on whether Polkinghorne, Gust and Allen get first use ofthe ball, a doubtful prospect to me on the tight Boulevard Oval

. I've a hunch the 'Hoe turned the cornerlast round and I'm sticking to them despite the probable loss of Peter Adams .

The other big game in A Section is at Timber Ridge between Bulleen-Temp . and De La Salle. It's fourthversus first and the bullants know a loss could see it slip out of the four as Ormond at home will devourOld Scotch . Bulleen-Temp . were frightful against Collegians but the Lions would humiliate most sides atthe moment so I'm putting that loss down to 'just one of those days' .Keenans return will certainly life the locals, but I'm not convinced that they are as even as De La S c : lewho know how to win the important games. Make no mistake, Bulleen-Temp. will be really fired up for thisone, but De La's consistency will see them home.At the Trott where Collegians meet Marcellin the only question I have is can the lions win another game

by 100 points? Their form is red hot at present, their team work excellent and use of the ball crisp and precise.Marcellin just has not got the experience or concentration to 'man up' the Lions prime moves and Collegia ; iswill win and add to an already impressive percentage .

Poor old Caulfield take on North and Bruns and will find their hosts in a particularly nasty mood . Nor~hhas lost its last two games and are sure to take it out on Caulfield today . North by a mile and as previouslyindicated Ormond at home and boosted by the return of Skipper Russel Barnes and the knowledge thatvictory will see it return to the four are odds on against a struggling Old Scotch .

COLLEGIANS SUPERRULES REPORTPeter Bedford was the star of Collegians' first

win this year in Superrules . Showing all the at-tributes that won him the 1970 Bronlow, Peter wasdominant in the Centre and around the ground . GlenCook (Ruck) gave Collegians first use of the ballall day and Bedford combining will with Bill Grif-fith and Phil Grant (Ruck Rovers), Jim Bonowickand Terry Smith (Rovers), continually put Col-legians into attack where John Moodie Full For-ward) capitalised with three gooals in the firstquarter. When the Churches tried to advance, theywere met with solid opposition led by Dave Mon-tgomery (Full Back), John Kerr (Back Pocket) andRic Burlock (Half Back Flank) . The win leaves Col-legians just out of the Four with a better percen-tage and win this Sunday against top side DiamondValley and other results going their way, could seeCollegians in the Four. Diamond Valley who areundefeated and keen to stay that way and Col-legians enthusiastic after such a good win and thereturn of several top players including Peter Keenanand Peter Mason should provide a high standardthis Sunday with many thrills. TON TO AL PALThis week sees Old Haileyburians' AI Stuart play

his 100th game for the Club. Stewie joined theBlodds in 1979 and had a major role to play in thefollowing years junior premiership team . Since thenhis hustle, pace, strength and vigour have been putto good use, especially on the half-back flank andwing . This year he achieved even greater fame withhis recovery from near-hospitalization with adislocated finger. He is n!ine for quote of the yearwith "I'll give you a stretcher" !

One of the club's social giants "AL PAL" is alsoa well-known Long Room Veteran, having achiev-ed a degree of notoriety for the way he looks afterhis female guests. That dark moustache is oftenseen to bristle after a round or two at the G, andthe Qantas executive can be dangerouslymischievous after-hours. Melbourne has a!ot to lookout for with Al's return from Sleepy Hollow.

Well done Al on the big ton - let's see that stur-dy frame rushing up and down the firld for a fewmore games yet !

After three straight losses Whitefriars Coach W.~fKeane beliieved his talented young side neededmore experience. He talked their ageing Club Presi-dent out of retirement for his first game last Satur-day. Chris didn't get many kicks but he certainlylifted the average age of the side .

Bill Denton, Old Xaverians 1985 Captain surpris-ed not only the Denton family, but his team mateswith his announcement of his engagement toPhillipa Dwyer last weekend .

The Club was still recovering from ToryOngarello's engagement to Tracey Sheffield . Springis supposed to be the time for these important deci-sions . Old Xaverian supporters wish the two couplesevery best wish for their future.

THE SCORE ON THE SCORE SSome clubs, particularlyin the highersections,

seem to think they have the right to ring thePress Correspondent early on Saturday eveningfor scores in other matches in the section .

Our phone is far too busy from 4 .45 p .m . till 9p .m. to be able to give these scores - veryoften we haven't even got them - and anyrequest will in future be turned down .

There are several ways of obtaining scores ofother games in your section - from RadioStatons 3DB, 3AW and 3LO, or by phoning theother grounds .

ANZ today congratulate Steve Hewitt on play-ing his 50th game for us .

"Hewey" who joined the club during season '83is a lion hearted ruckman in the seconds who nevergives up and is an inspiration to his younger team-mates with his never say die attitude .

"Steve's" career with is culminated in 1984 whenhe won the Seconds Best and Fairest . Off the fieldhe is a humourist, is popular with everyone, butperhaps his biggest claim to fame is his running bat-tle with "Tommy" each year as to who will wear the"brightest pair of pants" on the Footy trip.

Well done mate, look forward to seeing you playmany more games for the Zedders .

On Saturday June 14th, Mark "Chooka" Rennickand David "Fatty" Wallace play their 100th and50th game respectively.

When "Chooka" takes the field against ANZBank it just proves that 9 years of dedicated train-ing can amount to something of substance. Manyknowledgeable readers will be surprised also to hearthat today's game is his 8th in a row : what dedica-tion!! Over the years "Chooka" has developed hisgame to such an extent that his famous torpedohandball is now registering as an actual statistic . Allat Uni High hope that "Chooka" continues on intothe second half of the season .

"Fatty" continues to amaze with his skills on andoff the field . He is actually going to dance at the an-nual bush dance on the 21st June : we hear. UniHigh's Jacko is also finding the big sticks this year .This is a result of his policy of handballing in theback!ine and only to himself in the forwardline . Davidwho started with UHS in 1983 continues to do thejob in the seniors that we all expect of a top-class,gutsy rover. Well done.

The committee and players wish Mark and Davidall the best for the day and know we will see themaround for many seasons.
