Ninth Annual 12-Step Recovery RetreatDecember 5-7, Little Portion FriarySwitching to a Higher Octane of Fuel. You’re invited to join us for our Annual Recovery Retreat on December 5-7, 2014. This year, bouncing off Fr. Richard Rohr’s remarkable words about Step 1 of 12-step recovery, Stuart Hoke will lead our annual retreat on topics related to the power of God available through surrender. From his book, Breathing under Water, Richard Rohr makes a paradoxical observation—a theme so familiar to those who walk the 12-step walk: “Until you bottom out, and come to the limits of your own fuel supply, there is no reason for you to switch to a higher octane of fuel. For that is what is happening! Why would you? You will not learn to actively draw upon a large source until your usual resources are depleted and revealed as wanting. In fact, you will not even know there is a Larger Source until your own sources and resources fail you” (ch. 1). This retreat is open to members of all 12-Step fellowships and anyone affected by them, including, but not limited to AA, Al-Anon, ACOA, CoDA, DA, NA, OA, SLAA, etc. Retreat costs includes 2 nights accom-modations and meals: $225 for private rooms, $200 for shared rooms. Information: Sandy Blaine at [email protected] or [email protected].

Artist Colony RetreatDecember 5-7, Cornwall Inn, Cornwall Bridge, CTThe Arts Committee is hosting its annual artist colony retreat for artists and those who love art. Our facilitators will be the husband-and-wife team Wesley and Jennifer Chinn, who will incorporate a wide variety of music, movement, and meditation into the weekend. Cost is $200 for double occupancy; $225 for a single. Space is limited. Transportation will be provided. To RSVP by No-vember 30, contact Deborah Hope at [email protected] or 917.923.0462, or Ruth Antoinette Foy at [email protected].

As Christians, we care deeply about so-cial justice and know that the Church can create change. But on a practical level, how do we take on the pervasive, overwhelming issue of economic inequality? This year’s Trinity Institute (TI2015) speakers have real-world experience making change happen. They will provide you with hopeful, practical tools you can use in your community to make a positive economic impact. To make sure the conference is affordable to all, registration is on a sliding scale. You can attend for as low as $100 and if that’s not in your budget, full scholarships are available. Space is limited; please register early! Registration and full schedule available at www.TI2015.org.

Trinity’s Doors are Open (just not the front one)The scheduled construction work has begun on Trinity Church’s front entrance, which will result in a beautifully renewed vestibule, with restored bronze doors, improved lighting, and new inner glass doors that swing open easily. When you arrive at the church, you may use both front side entrances, as well as the rear entrance (wheelchair ac-cessible) to enter. The construction should last no more than several weeks, when the front doors will once again be wide open to the world!

Congregational Voice“He has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what does the Lord re-quire of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” Micah 6:8 (NRSV). In Hebrew the term for kindness and mercy is chesedh, while the term for justice is mishpat. Mishpat emphasizes action, while chesedh underscores love—the attitude be-hind the action. God calls us to walk humbly with him while we do justice in a way that reflects His amazing love. How do we practi-cally put our faith in action and do this? I love this! It is simple, yet challenging.
