Palate Training & Wine Faults Seminar for the Wine Professional About the Seminar This one-day seminar will provide advanced professional palate training and identification of wine faults. Palate Training In the morning, we will taste a variety of wines and styles to objectively determine appearance, aroma, acidity, alcohol, body, tannins, oak, flavors, and finish. We will also concentrate on quality, balance, complexity, concentration, finish, and potential to age. Faults In the aſternoon, we will discuss the chemical nature and origin of various faults from the vineyard and winery through shipping and storage. Faults will include oxidation, maderization, acidity and alcohol levels, off flavors, volatile acidity, ethyl acetate, cork taint, bacteria and yeasts, and more. The focus will be on identification, prevention, and correction of the faults. When: Thursday, July 29, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Where: CWU, Mary Grupe Center, Ellensburg, Washington Map: www.cwuce.org/wine-education/map.asp Cost: $120 (includes instruction, course manual, and lunch) Pre-registration is required. About the Instructor This course is taught by Amy Mumma, coordinator of the CWU World Wine Program. Amy has been teaching palate training and wine faults for over 10 years in courses that have reached thousands of people across the United States and around the world. Amy is a highly sought-aſter conference speaker, lecturer, and wine judge. She was awarded the prestigious title, Professional Wine Woman 2005-2006, the top award of the International Wine Women awards competition in Paris. She holds an MBA in wine from the Bordeaux Business School, the Advanced Certificate in Wine and Spirits from the Wine and Spirit Education Trust in London, and a Diploma of Tasting from the University of Burgundy, France. In 2008, Amy was recognized in the Congressional Record by Congressman Doc Hastings for her contribution to the wine industry and was named Western Innovator2008 by the Capital Press. About the SeminarThis one-day seminar will provide advanced professional palate training and identification of wine faults.
