The annual meeting was called to order at 8:20 p.m. by Pat Monahan. A quorum of the board was present to conduct business. Pat welcomed everyone and thanked all for coming. He then took us on a walk down memory lane, highlighting major events of the past 30 years since the OSA’s creation.

The minutes of the 2007 annual meeting were presented, and a motion to accept them was made, seconded, and approved by acclamation. OSA Board Treasurer Ron Kulak presented the annual financial report for 2007, and a motion to accept the report was made, seconded, and approved by acclamation. OSA Board Membership Chairman Hans Anderson presented the new Life Members of 2007 and reported over 200 life members total in the membership.

Pat then thanked all the members on behalf of the Board of Directors. He referenced a page in the printed program thanking people specifically including all board members and their spouses, the members of the OOEC team, the CIT staff development team, Pat Monahan, Ron and Susan Derby, fit-it kitchen crew, all ad book advertisers, Mike Campbell and Edgar Wolff-Klammer, Bill Tenner, Erv Brinkmann, the Sebonia family, Kerry Kotwasinski, John Capusciarz, all concert concession volunteers, and all members who have attended any event throughout the year. Pat then asked for a moment of silence to remember those in the Owasippe family who had passed recently.

Ron Kulak and Chauncey Niziol presented Honorary Life Memberships to Ron and Susan Derby. Ron had been a board member for 10 years, and served as president of the OSA for six of those years. He has headed up many Fix-it projects, lays out the quarterly newsletter, created and maintains the website, and numerous other duties. Susan has helped as minute-taker in the past, was the 2008 Elections Chair, writes the content of the newsletter, organized and heads the Adopt-a-Road program, and has assisted at many events. Both have been active in the CIT training staff.

Elections chair Susan Derby thanked the outgoing members of the board (Tim Toerber, Ron Kulak and Candy Merritt) and the candidates of this election. She announced the election results, with board seats going to Tim Toerber, Bob Pagels, and Edgar Wolff-Klammer. She then announced the officer positions: Tricia Groben as president, Bill Van Berschot as vice president, Bob Pagels as treasurer, and Tim Toerber as secretary.

Tricia Groben thanked Ron Kulak and Candy Merritt for all their years of service on the OSA board and said she is looking forward to working with the new board members as they set the projects for the coming year and continue to help protect Owasippe from sale to developers. Don Studaven, Blue Lake Township Supervisor, thanked all those who donated to the legal defense fund for the lawsuit brought by the Chicago Area Council. Joe Sener, president of the OOEC, also thanked all donors and encouraged continued support of both the OOEC and Blue Lake Township.

Tricia then made an open call for new business, and Erv Brinkmann made a statement encouraging donations to the township’s legal defense fund. Tricia then made a motion for adjournment, which was seconded and approved by acclamation at 9:30 p.m.
