Key Messages
I hope this E-bulletin find you and your family safe and well.
As you may already be aware, a member of one of our Year 7 classes tested positive for COVID-19
this week. All students identified as close contacts of the child have been asked to self-isolate. This
has been limited to one tutor group and a small number of children from another group. The decision
as to who constitutes a close contact is based on the latest Public Health England guidance which
we are following. Unless your child has been asked to self-isolate they should attend school as normal.
Please take care and continue to ensure that you and your family follow all government guidance,
including the additional Lancashire measures of not mixing with other households.
Where students do need to self-isolate, their homework and school work is set remotely, using our
ClassCharts website and mobile App. All students and parents have unique access codes to
ClassCharts. We encourage you to regularly check the work your child has been allocated and also
to view any positive points they have received for work completed. ClassCharts even allows you to
view their behaviour in school in live time! If you do not have your parent access code for ClassCharts
please contact [email protected] clearly stating your full name and your child’s name.
This week we celebrated National Poetry Day. Students considered 'Love in the Time of Coronavirus'
by Nikita Gill, a poem specially commissioned for National Poetry Day. Inspired by this and by work
from our parent and local poet Astrid Middleton, students have been busy writing poems to be
displayed on our celebratory wall in the school dining hall. I look forward to featuring a range of
student poems in next week’s edition.
As the weather starts to become more inclement, please do ensure that your child brings a warm
coat and a suitable waterproof bag to school each day.

Using Class Charts
We are using the homework function on class charts to issue work and when
appropriate your child’s work can be uploaded for the teacher to view and give
feedback on.
All students and parents have their unique access codes to class charts and as
parents we would encourage you to regularly check the work your child has
been allocated and also to view any positive points they have received for work
completed. It will also allow you to see their behaviour in school from the start of
the year. If you do not have your access code for class charts please contact
[email protected] clearly stating your full name and your child’s name.
Work can be completed on a computer/phone/tablet or on paper/in a book.
During lockdown we received many excellent examples of work, completed on
paper, which were photographed and returned to their teacher. We appreciate
that not all students have a device to complete work on - or that this is shared
within the household. If this is the case the work can be screenshot on a phone
from the class charts app, for future reference. If the task is worksheet based
students do not have to print the worksheet to be able to complete the activities-
they can complete the answers on paper in full sentences just as they would
using a text book in school.
Office 365 is available free for all of our students, via their school email account.
This gives them access to Word/PowerPoint/Excel and other Microsoft
programmes. If you have not taken advantage of this further details are
available on our website under the useful links section, which can be accessed

Celebrating National Poetry Day
This week we celebrated National Poetry Day with poetry from Astrid Middleton, mother of
Harry and Cody, in Years 7 and 11 respectively.
This year’s theme is ‘vision’ and Astrid’s book ‘My Vision in Words’ is ‘a mother’s inspiring poetic
journey of life with sight loss’. The whole school visited the poem entitled ‘Resilience’ which
was perfect! We will also study more of her poems in English lessons and Mr Ralph is also going
to add one of the poems to our new Year 9 poetry anthology, which will be taught as part of
our unseen poetry unit.
We would like to thank Mrs Middleton for sharing her poetry with us!

Resilience
Resilience is overcoming challenge
It is knocking those barriers down
Resilience is raising a smile when all you want to do is
frown
Resilience is getting out of bed
It is letting the sunlight in
Resilience is staying strong when your patience is
wearing thin
It is staying focused through the fog
It is keeping a positive mind
It is powering through the pain
It is leaving pessimism behind
Children fall, they get back up
The sick find a way
People fail, they try again
Tomorrow is a new day
Where there is hope there is resilience
Where there is faith you’ll find it too
Where there is strength and determination, love and
support will see you through
Days are hard, times are tough, but the world has so
much to give
Pick yourself up, brush yourself off and be resilient in
how you live!
