Headteacher’s update
Dear Parents/Carers,
We have had a very busy and enjoyable final week of term!
On Monday many of our Yr 3 and Yr 4 children were joined by St Nicholas
Primary School, Bidford Upon Avon Primary School, Tardebigge First School, Mappleborough
Green First School, St Ambrose Primary School and St Peter’s First School for a fun-filled evening of
science! Maria Pavlidou, from Birmingham University, delivered a hugely engaging and interactive
session on extreme temperatures (with a little help from some liquid nitro-
gen!).
On Tuesday morning, we came together as a whole school community to
celebrate our Palm Sunday Mass. Our Reception children did a wonderful job
of processing into Mass waving their palms as we imagined what it was like
to witness Jesus riding into Jerusalem.
This was followed, on Tuesday afternoon, by our Stations of the Cross, led by our year 4 children
who, through their poignant and moving dramatisation of each station around the school
grounds, enabled us to journey with Jesus from his sentencing to death by Pontius Pilate to his
crucifixion and glorious resurrection.
On Wednesday we thoroughly enjoyed welcoming Will Hussey, from ‘The Art of Brilliance’, into
school to work with the children on how we can all be ‘BRILLIANT’!! Will gave us all the opportuni-
ty to think about the importance of having a positive outlook and what we can achieve when we
take ownership of our own learning and set our own goals. He has set us the challenge of being
‘2%’ers and will be coming back at the end of the summer term to see what has been achieved!
We have been very busy raising money through our Lenten charity activities over the last few
weeks. Our Reception children led a delicious cake sale for SENSE Charity, our KS1 enjoyed taking
part in their ‘Guess the Number of Dog Treats in the Jar’ competition for the ‘Dogs’ Trust’ and KS2
ended the term with a fun-filled quiz this afternoon for Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
Thank you also to everyone for filling our Fr Hudson’s boxes and returning them into school. We
will let you know the totals raised and look forward to donating the monies after Easter.
On behalf of all the staff at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, may I wish you a joyful and peace-filled
Easter

Dear Parents and Carers,
Your School needs you. St. Bede’s Catholic Middle School (Academy) has been ably supported over the years by a dedicated group of Academy Representatives (formerly known as Governors). We are looking for new Academy Representatives to join and support the Headteacher, staff and pupils in continuing to achieve and improve the good education here at St. Bede’s. The School Governing Body requires a variety of people, including those who may have experience in Education, Health and Safety, Accountancy, Commerce or Governance, although this is not a prerequisite. We currently have vacancies for two Foundation Academy Representatives who are appointed by the Diocese. As a Catholic school, with Christ at the Centre, Foundation Academy Representatives must be practising Catholics. We are also looking to recruit two Parent Academy Representatives now, to start in the new academic year. There is no requirement for Parent Representatives to be of the Catholic faith. As part of their induction they will be encouraged to shadow current Representatives during the Summer term. Representatives will be expected to commit time to the role, which would include reading minutes, reports and attendance at meetings, usually held in school in the evenings, termly, during term time. Training courses, including a planned induction, are provided by the Diocese and outside agencies to help the Representatives in their role. The Safeguarding Policies of Our Lady of Lourdes MAC, St. Bede’s Catholic Middle School (Academy) and the Arch-Diocese of Birmingham require Academy Representa-tives to hold an enhanced DBS check. The Clerk to the Representatives Committee will help you apply for this. If you would like to know more about the role please contact me or the school office.
Yours sincerely
Noel Burke
